When I got there, vet techs were waiting for me. Some of them took her back, and one took my story on what happened, and her symptoms. I had to call Pet Poison Line so they could tell the vets how to treat her-that's fine-and they wanted to do a full workup on her since she is 12. I said that's fine, that's what insurance is for. It was about 11pm when I was sent home to rest while they took care of her. At about two, they called me to tell me that she survived the nightshade poisoning, but they had found a thicker spot in her intestines in the x-ray, and they wanted to do follow-up images in the morning, so I got another estimate for them to keep her til the next day and run another round of x-rays and do an ultrasound. She stayed and I went back to sleep. In the morning, a very kind vet whose name I don't remember called me and went over what is happening and why that spot could be there. She gave me advice on how to proceed after today. She asked what food my cat eats so they could give it to her there too. I was kept in the loop the whole time from when I got there to when I picked her up at 4:30pm. It set me back about $3500. Thank God for pet insurance. But considering all they did and the overnight stay, not terrible. My cat's idiocy may have saved her bacon if we caught something early, but so did True Care's thoroughness.

Extremely disappointed with True Care for Pets. Their customer service has been absolutely…read moreterrible. Calls are rarely returned, communication is almost nonexistent, and getting something as simple as a prescription refill has turned into a nightmare. My dog depends on his medication to eat properly, yet I was told I now need to pay for another doctor's appointment just because the previous veterinarian left over a year ago -- something they never bothered to properly communicate to pet owners. How is that acceptable? To make matters worse, they don't even have appointments available until mid-July. So what exactly are patients supposed to do in the meantime? Wait until their pets are seriously suffering just to be seen and get medication they already rely on? There seems to be a complete lack of urgency, compassion, and accountability. Pet owners trust clinics with the wellbeing of their animals, and this experience has been beyond frustrating and honestly heartbreaking

They really like me, you think, as you sip the free La Croix from the fridge. I have a new home. This company is owned by Chewy. Modern Animal feels like every employee goes through rigorous training in psychological tactics for dealing with people -- like a Tony Robbins bootcamp for civility and the subtlest form of upselling. It left me feeling like they had control over me for a half hour, and an hour later, I wasn't feeling a lot of love for Modern Animal... nor was my wallet. They've come up with a brilliant model of unlimited visits for $199 a year, which I hear can be discounted to as low as $129. In principle, it sounds great -- until the heart of their business kicks in. And boy, does it. The softest of soft upselling. I needed flea meds for my dog and spent over $300, brought down to $250 with a first‑time coupon. I am going to be very careful with my numbers, as this organization really scares me. If I took all the things they suggested, it would have been over $500 -- just to get three pills to kill some fleas. You may ask, "Why did you go there?" And I would tell you: my vet closed early that day. Oh, I miss him so much. This really would be a fine spot for Kim Kardashian; I'm sure she would love it. This place is actually interesting in that, in my entire life, I have never seen such a well‑oiled dream factory with such an amazingly smooth way of extracting money from its customers. Here is what Copilot said -- and I realize AIs can be way off base at times, so this is not confirmed, verified, or to be taken as fact (yes, I am scared of them): Bottom Line Modern Animal is cheaper for unlimited exams but significantly more expensive for almost everything else. My final thoughts: if something serious came up and you went there with emotions running high, you could really take a hit. My suggestion would be to find a good old‑fashioned vet.

From the moment we walked in, she was dismissive, rude, and arrogant. She barely made eye contact with me the entire appointment and directed almost all her attention and responses to my husband, even when I was the one asking questions. I had legitimate concerns and follow-up questions about vaccinations and nutrition recommendations. Our breeder had specifically advised a certain food, and when I mentioned that and asked for her thoughts, Dr. McCrimmon became visibly defensive. Instead of having a professional conversation or explaining her reasoning calmly, she acted like my questions were a personal attack. She responded in a pompous and condescending way that made us both uncomfortable. The male nurse who administered the vaccine was actually very kind and patiently answered my questions, which was a small bright spot. However, by that point Dr. McCrimmon had already completely derailed the visit, and the overall experience left us feeling disrespected and stressed. She also engaged in heavy fear-mongering, warning that if our puppy's testicles don't descend he'll get testicular cancer, along with a few other dramatic health risks. While I understand the importance of being informed, the delivery was unnecessarily alarming and unhelpful for first-time puppy parents who were already excited and nervous. We left feeling unsupported rather than cared for. As pet owners, we're allowed to ask questions and hear different opinions--especially when it comes to our puppy's health. This is not the compassionate, collaborative care we were hoping for. I would not recommend this clinic or Dr. McCrimmon. We'll be finding a different vet moving forward.

From the very beginning, the entire team has been incredibly kind, compassionate, and caring with our cat Cyril and you can tell that everyone there genuinely cares about the animals they treat. She listens, takes concerns seriously, and has always made us feel that Cyril is more than just another patient. She went above and beyond (as did the team) for our big bubbas. If you are a resident of Sherman Oaks and are a critical thinker, think twice about this local veterinarian. It came highly recommended by a neighbor. I had high hopes and wanted to support this female centric place, however, as a dog mom I would never recommend it due to poor communication, lack of accountability and customer service and a defensive/ hostile stance when questioned. I went back for a recheck of my dog's allergies and skin growths. Note that there are two problems I was seen for initially and the follow up was to include both. This was not the case. I had to remind Dr. Cortez to remeasure my dog's growths. Not all of the growths were measured and there were no recommendations communicated for care. She was focused on his allergies, which had not resolved. I received VERBAL directions for 4 DIFFERENT TASKS and was told she would email me. In the days that followed I called the office and asked for my summary and instructions. I' was told they would be emailed. This happened three times. Nothing was emailed. I was not informed that Dr. Cortez was sick until I was also being instructed not to come back in the email shown below. It's sad that Southpaw won't take any accountability for the excessive wait, poor communication and lacking customer service. I think customer service is a thing of the past, but it's a quality that's important to me. There was no apology or anything that even approached an apology. If you value the ability to ask questions and discuss issues about your fur baby as they arise then this is not your veterinarian either.

I recommend you get there EARLY if you're going for a spay/neuter clinic day. They say no later than 7:30 AM but I was there at around 6:45 and they were already checking people in... so go early. You pay in cash. They can also do microchips at the same time as the surgery. This was so easy compared to other places that offer similar services. We were hesitant to pay that amount since it was an expense not expected especially after already paying for an initial check up and vaccinations elsewhere (our cat adopted us - she just showed up in the backyard so we took her under our wing since knew the shelters are so overpopulated). Dr. Shukhman is so kind and can tell helping animals is his passion. Had a follow up question after the surgery and Mauricio was so helpful too. If your pets pick up time is before 1PM, they will contact you. The expectation is for you to come pick up your animal promptly after the call to avoid stress on the animals so make sure you hang out close to the location if don't live close. They also offer other services that can be done at the same time like microchips which we opted for as well.

As a hospitality and event worker who makes due independently, this place has been completely understanding and transparent with budget, needs, and expectations. I know a few vets work there, but I've consistently seen Dr. "A" as I took to his practical approach in discussing a pets needs in accordance to budget. The front desk workers as well; patient and kind. I think its customary for any vet to give you a full scope when offering an initial quote on procedures and medication. At times, it was fine with my budget and other times, it wasn't. Dr. A and staff were very responsive and cooperative when we had to approach dental surgery for my dog. I set boundaries for budget and they honored it. My pup will still need some work done down the road, but what Dr. A conveyed is that the work they did would significantly improve my dog's mouth comfort and minimize the likelihood of future infections. They also offer a few credit line options that have 0% interest as long as the card is paid on-time within 6,12, 18mos. I have used Care Credit a few times and enjoyed the experience. I feel my dog was well cared for, and although the surgery did leave more of a scar than I was told would be there, so far it looks like the lumps that she removed are not coming back so that is ultimately the most important thing. I was a little shocked and disappointed at how much of an area was shaved on my dog's face on one side (mainly because my dog is an animal actor, & I was promised there would be minimal shaving. I chose not to make a big deal of it upon pick up because -really nothing could've been done to put that hair back, but it was quite disappointing that that promise was not kept. That said, again most important thing is my dogs, health, safety, and well-being and he did have these awful growths on his eyelids so I'm happy that they were removed. It's been several months and the hair has finally grown back. I am hoping that the scar will in time disappear more, but we will see!
