We ordered the pork knuckle, pretzel with beer cheese, and beer. The pork knuckle arrived cold and lacked flavor, while the pretzel didn't seem particularly fresh either. The beer pour was especially disappointing--the amount of foam/head was ridiculous, and for a place associated with such a famous brewery, I expected a much better pour. The photos really speak for themselves. Service was the biggest issue. We repeatedly tried to get someone's attention to place our order, but the servers seemed to avoid eye contact and kept waiting for someone else to help us. Even getting the check was a struggle--we eventually had to get up and go to a counter ourselves. It felt like the staff had little interest in actually serving the customers. The atmosphere itself has the traditional Bavarian beer hall feel, but unfortunately, the poor food, disappointing beer pour, and especially the terrible service completely overshadowed it. I really wanted to like this place, but based on our experience, there are much better beer halls and beer gardens in Munich.

Restaurant is totally communal style--you sit with strangers, drink beer next to them, chat with them, and be merry with them. Ahh! The German way of life. Sigourney had the cheese spatzle that came out piping hot in a mini cast iron skillet. The cheese was perfectly melted on top of the spatzle. I had a bite and I can frankly say it was the best spatzle I've ever had in my life. No other German restaurants I've been to in the States compares to the spatzle in Germany, and especially at this restaurant! It was superb...well flavored, cheesy, and definitely a treat to eat. Sigourney thought it was very good. I ordered the schweinhaxe, the roasted pork knuckle--which one of Bavaria's signature dishes. It too was absolutely delicious. The skin on the outer pork knuckle was perfectly crisp, while maintaining the soft, juicy, tender pork meat underneath. For those who have never had schweinhaxe, it's a lot like Chinese style "pig's feet" (it essentially is the same pork body part), but crispy, salty, and well.."European" tasting. We couldn't really read most of the menu, and fortunately for us, Bavarians are very nice and willing to help. A jolly, tall German man content with his beer in hand helped us translate some of the menu items and recommended certain beers on their EXTENSIVE list. I was really glad he was there since we got to eat some of the best items on their menu, as recommended by him. It was renovated from a previous hall and the decor is very nice, not to mention the Christmas decor. They even added a nice sitting area for groups of 5-8 where you have your own self serve beer tap at the table. What more do you need? They also have multiple private rooms. That was totally fine and knew I wouldn't be more than that. If you are coming here with other people, you definitely need to make a reservation. The servers are dressed in traditional German clothes which is a very cool touch. Everyone I spoke to also spoke English. I ordered the schnitzel and whichever beer they recommended with it. The service at Haufbrauhaus was terrible. I ordered a seasonal beer and it was fantastic and the outside seating was wonderful on a perfect day. Our server was awesome and spoke perfect english. I ordered the charcuterie board and it had a couple of hummus scoops and a beef stick and this scoop of stuff that was way too rich for me with pieces of butter in it, but the Germans love it.
