My first time staying in a hotel in Berlin and had a great experience. The reception staff are…read moresuper friendly and helpful and facilitated an early check in for me after I arrived early. I also got a "bid what you want" upgrade to a room on a high floor overlooking the street. The layout for the 2nd tier room is small but perfectly functional for a single traveler or couple, and I loved the thoughtful touches like a small chair in the bathroom, umbrella in the room with a holder, and hooks on the wall near the closet. The (nonalcoholic) drink minibar is free to take from and refilled daily which is another plus! And they had small chocolates that were refilled daily as well. I didn't partake in any breakfast or other food, but it did look good when I passed by. The garden area outside is nice to relax or work in. The hotel itself is on a quieter street but near many different modes of public transit - tram, bus, subway. The front desk warned me about needing coins for the tram / bus and was happy to exchange some bills into coins for me every morning as well. Not many taxis passing by but the front desk will call one for you very quickly if you ask. There are also bikes and scooters you can borrow. Overall I had a great stay and would have loved to stay longer! I had to move to another hotel for work, but wish I could have stayed at the i31.

Limited quantity. - free haribo gummy bears at reception. Danke! Cons: - not the most sexy of neighborhoods, although so central and a ton of highly rated restaurants and cafes nearby. - street itself is quite ugly. - bed wasn't the comfiest unless you like really hard beds. Side note: the beds weren't awful, just super hard and I'm a plush kind of gal. - breakfast looked magnificent, but was quite pricy at 16 €. If you can find a deal and in Berlin for a short time, looking to be near the train station, this is a no brainer.

While this hotel has a friendly check in service and fun, modern look--oversized lamp in lobby,…read morebright colors, chic graphics, comfy bench swings in small cafe--this is, mostly, a basic room (more on this in a moment). The hotel is located in a heavily trafficked area but good news is there is a fantastic sunny breakfast area on the first floor--so you don't have to skedaddle in the a.m. looking around the hood--with everything from a cappuccino machine to yogurt, fresh breads, eggs, sausages, cheeses, pate, cereals, juices and fresh fruit. Near check in there is a convenient small cafe with pastries, bread, cake, small pizza, tea or coffee with an airy view and cute seating (picnic table style, indoor and out front.) Again, the staff is uber helpful! For example, they can answer geographic questions in detail --thank you, Dennis!--and sell tram tickets at the front desk. As far as accommodations--here we go, whatcha need to know!--the AC is minimal so expect to sweat a lot in your dorm sized room. The WiFi is ridiculously slow--if it works at all--at 4.5 (compared to 120 in Texas). There is no instruction sheet on how to set the thermostat or what time breakfast is at or if there is an ice machine (there isn't one, btw.) No hot pot or coffee mugs. No in room fridge. No tub (the photos online display one) but the small shower in your private bath is pretty decent. The bed IS comfy with large screen tv directly across on wall. Our view was an enclosed green space area with no access to the traffic or big city buildings--yay! Quite relaxing! So if you are wanting a hip place to chill with minimal amenities--but terrific free breakfast--this is the place for you! Hope this helps in your decision process! Photos included. Ciao!
