Hallo! 3.5 stars. I…read morestayed here two weekends ago with EF, an educational travel company for our International Training Tour. We arrived at the hotel by 10AM after a 30 minute bus ride from the Berlin-Tegel Airport. We weren't able to check in until 4PM but we securely stored our luggage in one of the hotel rooms. I think Hotel Ibis has a few locations in Berlin. The decor is pretty modern and European. The front desk attendants were helpful and do speak English in case you're traveling from the States. There are two computers for using the internet. They do have free WIFI, but it's very slow and you have to constantly log back on. They originally gave us a single room, but after asking to switch, we were giving a triple room with handicap accessibility. The room was comfortable, clean, and quiet for the most part. Our room didn't have much of a view, but we were only in our rooms to shower, relax, and sleep. The bed was SO COMFY. Though it's a twin size, I slept very well and wanted to take home the pillow. There wasn't air conditioning, but you wouldn't really need that until the summer. The shower had plentiful hot water and the bathroom was clean. There's also a small flat panel tv to watch German programs. They do have other European channels, but none from the US. It was cool to watch The Simpsons in German! The continental breakfast was included with our stay and is served from 6:30-10:30AM (I think) They have bread, eggs, cereal, sliced cold cuts, some fruit, nutella (!), pastries, yogurt, and an awesome espresso/coffee/hot chocolate machine. It was pretty delicious. The hotel has a good location. It's within walking distance to The East Side Gallery where you can see the artwork on the Berlin Wall. You can also walk to the Galería mall (they have some department stores), there's a small market where they sell fruit, food, and some handicrafts on the weekends. Most importantly, the Ostbahnhof train station is so close. The train station has lots of stores in case you need to buy something to eat or you forgot something in the States. The stores were open until 8PM which is convenient of course. The Hotel Ibis Berlin City Ost is a great central location when visiting Berlin and you will enjoy yourself in Germany's capital.

They do lack a kettle to make your own cup of tea (is it just us Brits??). But the bar/cafe is open 24/7 and the staff very friendly. So location, age of hotel all make this low budget (it's not that low) a good deal at busy periods or when I want to explore the East of Berlin. Good view of TV tower too. Very simple furnished rooms with clean wooden floors - no dirty carpet. And surprisingly comfy bed with bright white clean sheets. Bathroom small but what do you expect. It's cool. It's East Berlin. Restaurant Recommendation: Check out Cunô (Japanese/Vietnamese) restaurant @ U Schlesisches Tor ...or from hotel 20 min walk (scarey if dark) or by bus 7 min ... go.. over the bridge (turn left out of hotel). At end of bridge u want the road going left Bus stop for Bus 165 Bethaniendann (bus towards Köpenick, Müggelsschlößenweg). It's worth it and great cocktails And a lively little district with bars and music and stuff.

The lobby is pretty, and the staff is super friendly and helpful. The rooms are quiet and provide all the necessities one could need. My husband arrived early from NYC and was able to check in a few hours before I arrived from another country, which we really appreciated. The room itself was nice, with crisp bedding, and it felt clean overall. However, our bathroom trash had not been emptied from the previous guests. It actually made me smirk because everything else was so well done, but it did make me wonder about quality checks. I also found the linoleum floors practical, though I didn't love the echo or hollow sound they create. Carpets feel cozier, but I understand that hard floors are much easier to maintain and disinfect. Overall, I would definitely stay here again in the future. Cheers from NYC.

Huge and very clean. The bathroom/shower was really great, felt like a minimal hotel room. Our room was very warm however, an although there was large windows there was no airflow. A fan would have been ideal. The reception is great, really pretty decor, bar(with happy hour) and pool and games tables(2). The breakfast each morning was €5 each and was buffet style. Really good spread, cheese, meats, fruit, cereal, yogurt, eggs, coffee and herbal teas. This was extremely good value and sets you up for the day of playing tourist. 2 things I dislike about the hostel is its location. As a tourist I found its location pretty sketchy. The u ban is a 10 min walk away and from there until the hostel you have to walk on a very dark long road and then through a high rise housing estate. I would not have felt comfortable making this journey alone or in a small group late at night. After 10 at night you must use the side entrance which walks you through the hostels smoking area which as a non smoker is a really unpleasant welcome back when you've had a long day of huffing it across the city. There is also a guy who sits outside the hostel all night reminding people to keep the noise down, I *think* he's a security guard from the hostel, either that or a concerned local neighbour. Just be aware that he may jump out on you if your talking too loudly coming home. He gave me a bit of a fright! Lol

The Hotel is located within the old East Berlin, which piques my interest regarding the history and subsequent refurbishment of buildings here. There's a modern front part that houses the Hotel and common areas, and then a more historical looking part on the back side. The art'otel is located close to the the subway and within easy walking distance to the various sights along or near Unter den Linden. One morning and with map in hand, I walked to a remaining section of the Berlin Wall and figured out which parts I was walking used to be in West or East Berlin. My hotel room was nicely appointed, but not fancy, and with a comfortable bed. That's really key on my first jet-lagged night. Breakfast was extra, but varied and tasty. Front Desk service was friendly and helpful, especially with directions.

The bed gave us both backaches, even though I'm not picky about about mattresses. This one was just extremely uncomfortable. Also it was very hot, even with the window open and cool fall temperatures outside. We even tried to put the cool air on but it didn't seem to work at all. The room was very tiny. Even though we are not big people, we could barely fit between the wall and bed. There was very little storage space, making it difficult to unpack even for a weekend. The room only had one small chair. It should at least have space for two people to sit. The coffee is instant powdered coffee. The in room refrigerator is extremely small - fine for a couple of bottles, but won't fit leftovers. Other than the room - breakfast is really expensive - 26 euros per person, so we skipped that. The lobby does not have comfortable places to sit - with such a claustrophobic room, we would have liked to have some options. The location is ok, but not great. Walking in certain directions does not seem very safe. If you do stay - there is a good breakfast place/bakery just down the street that is very good. Skip the hotel breakfast and go to the Bäckerei.
