The school works hard to make sure those values are carried into the classroom, interactions with students, and the overall culture. You can tell the staff is intentional--there's consistency in expectations, follow-through in teaching, and a steady focus on helping students become thoughtful, responsible learners. It's more than just academics; it feels like a school that's truly committed to its purpose. We're thankful for the effort they put in and how supported our kids have felt.

My husband and I always wanted our children to have a Christian education but were new to Katy when our oldest turned 5. When we enrolled in 2017, BCA was extremely small (only 40 kids). Each year the school has grown and next year I hear we will have 400 students K through 12. This is really exciting, because the highschoolers will have more opportunities such as athletics through TAPPS and FFA. My kids are athletic and love to play multiple sports. At BCA sports begin in 5th grade and they are able to play volleyball, flag football, basketball, and run track and cross country. Apparently it's on the horizon that BCA will offer baseball and 7 man tackle football soon as well. While it is wonderful that we are now able to provide some of these opportunities to the kids, that is not what keeps us at BCA. BCA is special because while many schools are Christian only in name, BCA teaches every single subject through a biblical lens. Why do we teach students math? Because God is a God of order and He gave us math as a tool - it is worthy of learning! Why teach students science? Because all the world is His creation. We also value BCA teachers are not simply trying to cram information into students so that they test well - they want the students to love learning. I feel like every teacher my child has had (and at this point we have had over 50 across my 3 children) has truly seen my child for who they are and worked with them to grow their individual gifts and improve areas where they struggle. The teachers don't just care for the students during the school year either - it's year round. My daughter's math teacher is hosting a Bible study for her home over the summer for the girls. Another thing I love about BCA is that they teach the kids to treat others with respect. The students say "yes ma'am" and "no sir" to teachers and other authority. Boys pull out chairs for girls and hold doors open, and girls say thank you in return. In an era where chivalry seems relatively dead, we get a lot of compliments on the students for having this basic etiquette. I also really appreciate that it is a cell phone free campus. There are no Chromebooks, and no student is allowed to have a cell phone at any point during the school day no matter what their age or grade. While I initially wondered how my kids would learn to do assignments on a computer if there were non at school, they do learn in upper school. My 9th grader has become proficient in typing and has performed many assignments online, while also being a confident public speaker. Public speaking has huge emphasis at BCA - there are various assignments and opportunities throughout the year in which each and every student presents or recites in front of their peers. Finally, it's a wonderful community of parents. Volunteering is a requirement at the school - each family must volunteer a minimum of 20 hours. That leads to parents being on campus often and getting to know one another. There are also lots of social opportunities for parents - there are moms coffee dates, moms night out, dads nights, a book club, and more. If you want a Christ centered education for your kids, this is it!

I didn't know the best place to park, since this was my first visit since they moved to this campus. Disclaimer: my sister-in-law used to teach history at this school, while my brother coached volleyball and may have taught a Bible class. But they haven't been with this school since before I moved to Athens in 2014. But back when they used to work for this school, I got to meet some of the faculty and staff members, so I know some of them. This school used to "float around" and make their home in various church buildings before they moved to this location (a piece of ranch land). So they have really grown up since I have seen them! Currently, they have 60-70ish students from 7th-12th grades. Their "band" is a worship-leading band for their chapel services, and I'd love to sit in on a chapel service sometime! I like that it seems they welcome students of various denominations (the Christian School I attended was run by predominantly members of the Church Of Christ, which meant that our chapel services were accapella, but they welcomed students of other denominations). They also wear some sharp uniforms, the more formal version of which reminds me of what they wore in the "Harry Potter" movies, but most days of the week they wear more casual uniforms, as some current students (from the House of Gryffendor", Lol!) told me. I was also excited to learn that they had a cooking class, that was all year long (not just 1 semester), where they also learned how to grill food on backyard grills. Their library also has a small "coffee shop" with it, where the students can brew their own coffee while they study (that was the impression I got). There is also a small swimming pool right behind the Administration Building, which would be good for back-to-school or end-of-year picnic parties, or maybe even use it for a shallow-water aerobics class. During the summer, they also have a "Popsicle Summer Camp", full of different elective camp sessions for kids ages 5-13. If I had kids in those ages, I would definitely encourage them to go to a camp session or two. And if I had kids between 7th-12th grades, I would definitely encourage them to come to this school!

I shall opine: Our son attended Brookhill from Pre-K, through First grade. As mentioned- the Teachers are phenomenal, but what the school administrators exude, can be downright nauseating. Brookhill is a Christ based school, and teaches outside of the normal "public" school guidelines. This, we appreciate, and respect- but, what we didn't like is the following: 1. "Certain" parents seem to get an obnoxious amount of special treatment. When a particularly well known family has a private parking space, and Teachers personally walk their children out to a certain Mercedes SUV, this is (in my opinion) sending the wrong message to other children. Not to mention- it doesn't seem Godlike... 2. The constant begging for additional money. Seriously, this is nonstop, and they even solicit the grandparents. Listen- I spent approximately $10K a year to send my son to your school; I really don't need to donate additional funds. Hit up the Mercedes mom! 3. The School Functions should focus on the children, but it seems more like an opportunity for the parents to exude their pretentious, and obnoxious demeanors. Sans Teachers, this seems to be a normal environment at Brookhill. Great Teachers, but unfortunately, I can't offer many positives on the Brookhill Admin, or the parents. If you're an aspiring Tylerite, Brookhill will be your new social club.

There are no cliques and no bullying and when we have had issues we have raised them with the teachers and they have jumped on them to solve them immediately, and unlike other private schools there's no sense of entitlement from the parents or students. Also, because the school is so good at awarding scholarships not everyone is 'rich'! The school also has a great parent teacher association which offer weekly meet-ups and play dates as well as adult only events. Each class also has a WhatsApp chat group so parents can easily communicate with each other. If it sounds like one big happy family you'd be right, that's exactly what it feels like. In terms of academics my adhd child has thrived. Diagnosed at 4 we thought she would struggle but the school has been amazing at supporting her needs and accommodating her. They also offer many different seating types from a bouncy ball chair, to cushions on the floor and other such. It's very holistic and non political and offers many diverse ways of learning. They have a calming corner, encourage reading and emotional open communication as well many other ways of teaching emotional and academic intelligence. They teach in Spanish from day one and introduce Mandarin from 3rd grade, they also teach following the international Baccalaureate which is amazing. It teaches the children self confidence through weekly presentations and teaches them autonomy. Honestly this school is amazing and now it goes until 12th grade we are obsessed and so you will be too. But, sshh don't tell anyone about our secret slice of heaven.

Hands down, my husband and I feel it is best decision we have made for his education. Although it can be a bit pricey, we have felt that it has been worth every dollar. The teachers... the teachers have all been so amazing. They are loving, caring and really take each student's personalities and abilities into consideration as they grow from year to year. As I said, it's not the cheapest option and we do discuss yearly if we will be renewing his tuition-- and, with each year this answer comes easier and easier with an astounding "YES". We love the school, the community, the parents and look forward to many more years at Magellan!

The school covers pre-kindergarten through 12th grade, and there is an attached preschool. The focus is on academics, and that focus is laid out in the Mission Statement: "...We are committed to academic excellence and the growth of each child in learning, character, and faith." The teachers really make an effort to teach the children and to help the children learn on their own. We love the teachers, and our child is incredibly happy with them and the school. He especially enjoys teaching us French and Spanish, as well as helping us review math concepts. One of the best parts about the school is that, due to the small size, policies can be changed based on parent suggestions. This benefit affects small things like changes to the uniform, and very significant things like whether a child would better learn with an individual lesson plan or by attending a different grade for a specific subject. Another benefit of being a private school is that a significant portion of the current kindergarten class is just barely too young to enter kindergarten in public schools, but is academically and socially ready for kindergarten work. They have a beautiful new multi-use building (including gym). The multi-use building is the site of drop-off and pick-up, so kids that get picked up after 5pm are often playing in the gym during that time. The school also has daily chapel, though children of all faiths are welcome. Full tuition is less than, or in-line with, many of the other private schools in the area, with discounts for prepayment and/or multiple kids from the same family. Significant amounts of financial aid are also available. Between 1995 and 2010, the Head of School position changed eight times, causing a drop in enrollment that has finally reversed with consistency. This drop in enrollment has had negative effects on the school's cash-flow. The current semester (Fall 2011) has seen a flood of negative publicity with the inaccurate message that the school is currently closing. Actually, fundraisers have already raised a significant chunk of the necessary funds for this academic year, and plans are being put in place to restructure the school's finances to prevent this issue from recurring. Saint Michael's is a great school, and we strongly recommend it for parents who are focused on academics and families who could benefit from a small school environment. Disclaimer: I have met several times with members of the school Board, have volunteered my time assisting with a committee looking at the school's finances, and have donated time and money to the school.
