Love the charter school. It has a very "everyone" knows your name. My daughters pre-k doors are…read morealways locked. They have their own play area and breakfast and lunch room. They separate the younger grades, middle and high schoolers when attending lunch. They now have sports activities with great coaches. As with all schools, there's always a few 'mean' teachers, but the principal seems to be weeding out the bad apples. Discipline is really strict, and I love it. There's a time to play and a time to get serious. AFTER school tutoring is AWESOME!!!! the buses are great too, they come almost to my front door.

Do you want your child to be safe and receive a proper education? Do NOT send them here then!…read more First off, we were told the classrooms are a 15 to 1 ratio. My daughter's class has 30 until so many issues occurred, well over half way through the year, which forced them to get another teacher and split the class. The first teacher my daughter had was awful, to say the least. She screamed at the children, hardly taught a proper lesson, shamed and embarrassed the children, was always unreachable, and even asked us to buy her a cell phone so we could reach her. My child, 7 years old, has been given to strangers, left to walk the OPEN property, and was given to pick ups WITH OUT asking for I.D (this was even after I made a complaint about her almost being given to a stranger). My child had a Doctor's appointment and needed to be picked up early. The school told the pick up that she WASN'T at school that day. It took the almost an hour to call me and confirm that she was infact there and safe. Since those times, she has been exposed to teenagers dressing, being sexually harassing by a male student, injured (including a head injury that I was never told about), bullied, and picked on. When she told her teacher, the teach called her dramatic. Each and every time. When I spoke to the teacher (she ONLY called me because I called the school livid) and told me my child was again dramatic when I was concerned over her being sexual harassed and threaten to be killed by the same student. Whom has been an issue all year and I have reached out numerous times about. So a little boy can habitual sexual harass my child then threaten to kill her and SHE is dramatic?!?!! She was also sent to ISS when she got upset over it. During her time in ISS and MALE staff member questioned her about the assault. Making her feel very uncomfortable. At no point would that fly at any other school. I've asked for MONTHS to have a meeting with a certain teacher (it was well documented in her folder and via email) and was ignored each and every time. Any time I have requested a meeting and it be honored, was if I call the office about it. Cove Charter is rouge. They do not follow safety guidelines, they lie to parents, and their curriculum and grading practices are a joke. No wonder they are on disciplinary action for the low grades and poor teaching. I feel terrible for the FEW good teachers there. I wish so very much that they would transfer to a real school. When my daughter started at a new school the staff asked what school she went to last year. When I told them, without even outlining the troubles we had, they were empathic and immediately assured me that they were different. Apparently its common for students to transfer out and the schools are aware of how awful Cove Charter is. At the end of the day, Cove Charter is NOT a small environment based on learning enrichment. It's an alternative school for those who were kicked out of public school. Do not come here thinking anything otherwise. It was a dangerous mistake we made.

The school issued report cards showing all "A" grades in all subjects, including math, despite knowing she had been behind in math upon enrollment and not informing me of any concerns or deficiencies. I raised concerns in person about whether skills such as fractions were being taught and assessed, but was not provided clear work samples or grading criteria, and was treated poorly for asking. I independently assessed my child using grade-level math tests, a MAP assessment, and a Mathnasium evaluation, all of which indicated she was performing below grade level. I requested clarification on grading. The school did not clearly respond until repeated follow-up and stated the grade reflected grade-level placement rather than mastery. I did not receive clear documentation and my concerns were not addressed and I was ignored.

From the owner: Throughout Hill Country Arts Academy, we follow a…read moreliterature-based educational approach that employs a diverse array of educational materials, including literary works, both fiction and nonfiction, biographies, illustrations, and practical experiments. This method provides a dynamic and comprehensive education that goes beyond mere textbook memorization. Books in Language Arts, History, Geography, and Science serve as the primary instructional medium, inspiring discussions, exercises, and activities. Hands-on learning is a significant part of the curriculum at Hill Country Arts Academy. A large portion of math programs include manipulative elements, and science programs feature weekly experiments. A tactile approach is also applied to History, Geography, and Reading through projects that accompany specific lesson segments. Hands-on learning allows children to interact with educational materials, aiding in the comprehension of more abstract concepts, especially in math and science. It transforms learning into a multisensory experience, engaging tactile pathways that can reinforce and solidify knowledge over time. Moreover, hands-on activities can animate learning, rendering it more impactful for children, which is particularly beneficial for traditionally less engaging subjects like history and geography. With full incorporation of the visual and performing arts into all aspects of the curriculum. Classes in ballet, tap, jazz, and theater offered evenings and weekends.
