Fantastic little winery inside of an old one room school house. Had the Riesling while I was here and it was fantastic! I'm a sucker for historical buildings being converted to something else, and a winery makes perfect sense for this place. All the wines are named after something educational or scholarly. Service was great and the ladies behind the counter were super friendly. A must visit if you're a wino and find yourself in Dover / Zoar. read more

The drinks are crafted for a palate rather than a traditional, let the grapes subject us to their natural design. To me, that is what makes this place one of education. The notion of intelligence is the scientific method of how we experience our reality. This was our 9th and final stop for the day on wineries. This place has all of their wines named after stuff with school. Pep Rally, Prom Night ( were both red wines ). The lady that helped us out a lot. She was friendly and had great recommendations. The winery has a small vineyard nearby where they use the grapes for jam for the family. They get their juices from outside locations. I recommend stopping here. It's small and quaint with really good wine. read more

The outdoor area was closed for the season. The indoor area was small but OK. The day we were there, there was only one other couple. We had the cheese and meat tray and did the wine tasting. The cheese was excellent but the meat wasn't what I expected and not very good. I will come back in the summer for their outdoor area. read more

I really love this winery. I have only had the opportunity to visit one time, but it was great. It is actually in an old school house and the inside is redone. It is absolutely beautiful! There is plenty of seating and the environment is so welcoming and cozy. The staff is friendly and accommodating. One of the best parts is they have various wine tastings and will pretty much let you ample any wine before purchasing. They also have snacks available for purchase!! Yum!! Another new winery in Dover I discovered when heading back to the good ol' T-County to visit family. I was ecstatic to hear that not only did someone decide to do something with the old school house, but that it turned into a winery. The inside is small (it is a one room school house) but very cute with a few tables, rustic decor, and a bar in the center where you can order wine by the glass or by the bottle. There isn't much of a gift shop as you find in typical Ohio wineries and I was actually relieved. This was serious wine business. I was there on a weekend night with my parents and there had been a band playing outside the winery until right before we arrived. There were tables outside for people to sit out and enjoy wine as well as room inside. Their wines have some creative names to go with the school house theme such as Class Clown, Prom Night and Teachers Pet. We ended up sharing a bottle of wine between the three of us and trying the cherry sangria they had available as well. All of it was delicious and reasonably priced. This is a great addition to the area and will be on my list of places to visit when I am in the area. read more

This winery was our last stop on a tour of 4 area wineries. The one-room school house is fabulous and has lots of good energy! The sun was setting and there were patrons outside waiting for the live music to start. The wine tasting was a great experience but the "school house" theme overshadowed the wines. All samples were served in test tubes with a wooden holder; which is cute but doesn't allow you to smell the wine. Although the tastes are more expensive than the other area wineries, they are 3 times the size. To be fair our server offered to pour our samples in regular wine glasses, but "when in Rome..." Our server knew nothing about the history of the school house and deferred to her counterpart who looked like a deer stuck in the headlights. The schoolhouse winery has a theme based on their history but employs people who can't convey it to patrons. They did have a report card on display from a student who had attended school there earlier this century. The Schoolhouse Winery has fairly good wines, however the grounds, music, and late hours are the reasons to make it a regular haunt. read more

I really enjoyed my experience at the Winery. We met a group of friends there on a Saturday evening. There was an outdoor stage and the entertainment was a guest singer, Ren. Our group of four couples brought our own outdoor folding chairs. There were picnic tables and string lights and table candles. There was approximately 50 people there. Glad that we brought our chairs. It was more comfortable that way. The concert lasted until 9pm. Some people in our group brought cheese and crackers. We bought pizza there. We ordered the veggie pizza. It was pretty good...was impressed by the top sprinkling of herbs. The menu had some subs which also looked good, but we didn't try those. We each tried different wines. My husband and I shared a bottle of a semi-dry white wine, Ruslin Hills White. We tasted some of the others, but we definitely liked this one best. All in all it was a relaxing and enjoyable evening with friends. I hope to return soon. read more

Stopped here in the way home from Amish country since all of their wineries close so early! I'm a teacher so I was automatically into the taboo of drinking in an old school. Add in the fact that there was some school history posted on the walls near the restroom and that every wine had a clever school name and I was a fan from the getgo. We sampled a few of the semis and got a bottle of Scholar Red for there. We enjoyed it and got the same to go. We also had the garlic chicken pizza. The woman working was all alone on a Friday and while it wasn't packed, there were 3 groups of 4 plus us when we left and most seemed to be ordering food. She covered the bar and the kitchen with expertise. Pizza was pretty basic but I didn't expect her to have a pizza oven in the back, again, she was running the place solo. It was just what you need to soak up some wine! Enjoyed the school decor, even wrote my name on the chalkboard. It's a bit of a jaunt off any main roads and could be tricky to navigate to in bad weather, but I'd make a return trip in spring or summer because it looked like there was some nice outdoor space! read more

If you are down in the Dover/New Philly area, this is the winery to visit. It's a remodeled schoolhouse from the 1880's complete with the bell still on top of the building. You can sit outside on the deck or on picnic tables to enjoy a band on stage. The wine selection is decent and diverse that includes a lemon wine which I have never seen at any winery. You have to try the lemon raspberry jello shot and the blueberry shots too. The chicken garlic pizza and the garlic bread are really good! I'd be shocked if you left there disappointed! read more

Best winery experience ever! We went on a Saturday night, they had some stellar live music. It's rare to stumble across such a cool local musiscian that was this good. The place was packed, but service was really good. We sampled a few different wines, which were all named within the school house theme. I had the "Eraser" (a semi-sweet reisling) and my husband had the "Bully Red" (semi-dry, full bodied red wine). "Tastes" (really about a half a glass) are $0.50 each, which we had a few, and glasses were $5. Prices of the bottles varied between about $11 to $20 I guess. We also had a cheese platter. We stopped here last night on our way home from Columbus. It was on a Friday night, and it was a beautiful evening to be at a winery. Unfortunately, we missed the mark for what we like in a winery. The school building is very cute on the exterior, but I have to go along with another yelper who commented that they modernized the interior beyond what they should have. You can do things to code without stripping all the character away as we have seen in many other restored coffee shops and wineries. We sampled three wines, and bought their best seller. We sat on their wood deck for a few moments, and marked this one off the list. It just did not rise to our occasion. read more

Very cute, rustic looking winery in a pleasant country setting. Roughly 2 acres of land, with a pond & picnic area featuring an outdoor pavilion for local bands/entertainment. The interior is small, but features a bar where you can taste test and order. Excellent service! The wine is all processed on site and the hosts/owners are very knowledgeable and friendly. well were do I start? wine not very good, samples are .50 each most other wineries are .25 or free, food is normally priced but smaller portioned and yes I am comparing other wineries not what is worth. they ruined the old school house and modernized it with drywall. I visit local wineries quite often and this just doesn't compare, I have been to them all. It is too bad this is the closest one to me and I don't go there anymore. I usually bring five people with me when I visit and we all agreed. read more
