First time playing this golf course. Drove up from San Diego for a birthday round with a couple of buddies. It's a great spot because my friends, who don't golf as often as I do, were able to have fun, while I still enjoyed hitting challenging shots. Incredible views as well! Only issue was that when we showed up our tee time reservation was non-existent. I showed the email confirmation and was assisted by Sam. He called golf now to investigate the issue. Turns out it was a system error. Fortunately, Sam was able to work with the starter and get us out almost exactly on time. Really appreciate his help! Let me start off by saying I love this golf course. It's an executive, so mostly 3s and some reachable 4s. It's kept in great condition year round, and it's in one of the most picturesque settings you could imagine. High in the hills with plenty of great LA skyline views (on a clear day). Their staff is friendly and helpful, their prices are reasonable. And do check out their membership if you're local; for $50/month you get half price on tee times, a free drink every time you come, and a key fob for a free bucket of range balls every day! And while I'm on the topic of the range, they have TrakMans on every lane of the driving range. So you can evaluate your swing, range your clubs, even play a virtual game against yourself! Why only 4 stars. Well, disappointingly, Scholl Canyon jumped on the woke bandwagon recently with a day of golf celebrating "fathers of color." Come on. If you're a dad, you deserve to be celebrated, regardless of anything else. Dads are dads, and golf is for everyone. Let's celebrate that. UPDATE: Although I love and still advocate for the membership here, two things recently soured the pot for me. First, although they advertise $8 tee times for members on weekdays after 1200, I've had to fight for this on more than one occasion and remind them of their policy. In response, they've changed it to after 1:00. Also, despite their ads offering 10% off all merchandise in the pro shop, they only apply the discount to Scholl Canyon branded items. My boyfriend and I played a round of golf here. The course is nice. We played on a Saturday and the course was packed with other golfers thatt we had to wait before we could tee off. Once we did, we were intertwined with the other golfers that we didnt know whose ball belonged to whom. We figured it out and thankfully we're able to finish all 18 holes. Cool little par 60, 18 hole golf course in the Glendale mountains. This place is super accessible, plenty of parking and driving ranges with launch monitors. Usually play time is about 3.5 hours but I've played here on a weekend, where the round took 5 hours. DONT COME ON A WEEKEND OR HOLIDAY! It's really a great golf course with amazing views! Great value, and even better if you get one of the hot deals! It's nestled into the side of the mountain so it feels nice and secluded up there. Reception is bad, so plan ahead with your friends! It's a shorter course with 6 par 4s. Longest at 324. It's definitely challenging! Lots of elevation changes. Holes are spaced well, unlikely to hit into another group and vice versa (although possible). Me and my friend went as a duo on a Sunday 3pm, we finished in less than 3 hours. By the time we got to back 9, there was no one behind us or in front of us, felt like we had the place to ourselves! Staff are cool. Carts were clean. Facilities are clean. read more

I was a member at Scholl Canyon for three years, even though it's far from my home and I could only come once or twice a week. Today, when it was my turn at the driving range, the machine gave me only about 10 balls before stopping. A young employee, who seemed to be working there, told me there were still balls left in the machine for me, but I needed to get a code from the clubhouse because I had already used my member key. When I went inside to ask for the code, they refused, saying the machine was broken and they couldn't give me more balls. I explained again that the young man had already said he could give me the remaining balls. Then another young staff member -- I think his name was Barrett something similar -- spoke to me very rudely. He even threatened me, saying if I asked again, he would cancel my membership. After today's experience, I canceled This place clearly has no concept of customer service. Very disappointing. My friend, who arrived after me, got the remaining balls. There were people at the driving range and even a teaching pro next to us. When he threatened to revoke my membership, I felt he really crossed the line yesterday. read more

Great course! Unfortunately the weekends are PAINFULLY slow. you play after 11pm you will start late, and wait for almost every hole. People give up and quit early on a regular basis. The management does not seem to care. There is no competent adult in charge. There are no marshals. When i have asked, employees laugh, shrug their shoulders, and say it is always really slow on weekends. They could schedule less frequent rounds if they cared about the customers experience. read more

I'm only ever here when, once in a while, I feel a need to see the LA skyline and surrounding neighborhoods like Glendale. Golf course itself is very meh, heavy emphasis on the meh part, some of the fariways are in horrible shape as well as the greens. Usually unrepaired fairway/green divots just make everything patchy and gross. Prices are decent for the views you get, be careful booking on a morning weekday. Very likely you'll play behind the morning regulars, mostly very old golfers. They'll slow down the pace of play substantially. Golf course itself is cool, drivable par 4's and short par 3's. Back 9 tends to be the actual fun part of the course as you start playing on the topside of the canyon. read more

Scholl is a great course if you live in Glendale. There are 6 drivable par 4s and the rest are par 3s that will help with you short game. BEWARE of the 9th hole. That tee box has a high risk of being hit with a range ball. Anyone who hooks their driver from the driving range has a good chance of hitting over the net into the 9th hole. I was almost hit the other day and I have been guilty to hook a few shots onto that hole myself. Be weary of that hole. Bring a helmet and wear it when you tee off on the 9th lol read more

Check in was simple, staff did their jobs well. However, weekend golf here at scholl is a nightmare. As golfers we can appreciate the plenty of T-times offered, but that leads to many issues when not managed correctly. Scholl unfortunately does not have enough carts to keep up with flow of traffic. Created a 30 min delay from actual T-time. Being that there is never a martial, you can expect to be stuck behind golfers who have never swung a club before, for a while. Unless of course you sacrifice a few holes, and kindly ask to jump ahead (not ideal, as you pay to play 18). During the week, pace of play has been a breeze, as it's usually more experienced players. Would highly recommend hiring a weekend martial at the very least, as this could help getting by with the shortage of carts. read more

Went to the driving range with my family and unfortunately had a poor experience because of a certified golf instructor at the practice area today. It is not Daniel but somebody else. My sister wanted to try to hit some balls as a total beginner and she asked me for help. As her family and someone who has golf experience...yes I am going to point her in the right direction so she can have a positive time. I was verbally advising her along with adjusting her hand on the club as this is a contact sport and often times we need to be kinesthetically taught, not just verbally talked at. We weren't making swing motions. We weren't on the practice mat as we were speaking but still inside our station near the digital teleprompter close to the marked line. We were being respectful of others. I know I will need to step out of the station so no one gets hurt so I proceeded to do so then this man is standing at the line saying hello and we had no idea what he wanted but he proceeded to tell me that I cannot give advice or any coaching. I asked why is that? He then responded with "it is the golf course's rules and policies. I am a certified golf instructor and I teach. I stand at the line and am not allowed to physically touch the student." Mind you, he ditched his student to tell me this which I just find kinda funny. I was definitely confused. I can understand he felt threatened that I was "across the line" when he's not allowed to. I told him "okay that is odd. I will have to look into this because I have never heard of this. I won't touch her and will stay behind the line. " he says " yeah you can talk to her behind the line but you can't touch her. Thanks for understanding." And he returned back to his station 6 spots down mine. I found it funny because I was coaching my family member for 2-3 minutes and made sure it wasn't a whole rudimental lesson. Everyone has the freedom to give out knowledge if the person is seeking! people everywhere give unsolicited or wanted advice all the time. Certified Personal trainers at the gym don't walk up to two workout buddies to stop coaching and spotting each other because "this is my playground and my land." I went on Scholl's website and found nothing about this rule. I also searched online and came across 1 golf course from Singapore who bans advice. If this is true that I cannot touch or give basic advice at Scholl Canyon then okay but I've not heard anything like this at my times at Brookside or Debelle course. To turn it to an opportunity the guy could have introduced himself and says he does lessons if you need any help. I just feel sorry that the instructor is limited to only verbal instruction like a sound board. Well it makes sense why he talks too much. Returned the next day and the driving range was shut down randomly. Their maintenance really needs work as this happens too frequently. read more

Management, I hope you read this. It was nice for you all to upgrade your mats and add new yellow golf balls but the wait for range balls is ridiculous! Range balls always running out, long lines for range balls because they machine is always out, did I mention no golf balls is the normal at this range? You know golf has picked up, paying customers are paying for range balls, please have ample range balls in your machine for your range patrons! This is out of control! Please hire more staff. I used my driver twice on the front nine and I think twice on the back nine, the rest of the time I used my pitching wedge, 5 or 8 iron. I paid $36.00 for a round of 18 holes. The greens and tee boxes need improvement. I was surprised to see that there weren't restrooms along the course similar to the DeBell course. Scholl Canyon is pretty high up on a hill nestled between mountains which makes for nice viewpoints but because of the location it can be hard to get cell phone reception. Staff is rude, coaches do not move when there are others who reserve a court. Sadly it feels like if you're not Armenian you're not welcome there. Definitely a different treatment. For $20 an hour there should be more respect for all types of customers . read more

Good par 3 & 4 golf course with canyons right next to most of the holes. Holes are up kept. Bunkers are solid wet sand most of the time with varying amounts of water in some. Greens are maintained, playable slopes, and roll. Cart path on weekdays. They have plain, old carts. Nice view from the Verdugo mountain ridge of DTLA. Effective July 22, 2024 the green fees went up, they added tiered memberships without free alcoholic beverages anymore. Fridays are now charged weekend prices! Before 18 hole with carts in the early morning was $21 with tier 1 membership, now it's a 52% price increase to $32! Tier 1 membership $49.9 a month includes 1 medium bucket a day, free water or soda with your drink ticket on the day you pay. Tier 2 $64.98 a month includes a large bucket a day. read more

If you like a 6 hour round and waiting 25 minutes past your tee time to simply tee off from 1, then this is your course. I've played here about 10 times and there's no such thing as a clean play through. Prepare to wait at literally every single hole. Cart path has been in shambles for a while. Cut grass is no longer raked? Tee boxes are all very lumpy and uneven. For the price, you'd think they'd tighten those things up. Men's bathroom is regularly a horror show. That said, I still love playing here. Staff Is usually pretty great and the holes are a good mix of fun and challenging. It's a nice Par 3 and 4 course. Greens are well maintained. Fair amount of fairway bunkers. Pace of play if normal. Gets harder at the back nine. Front nine is very walkable, after hole 10 expect a good hike. The range is whatever's. You'll hitting up hill and the mat is pretty tough so it'll hurt the wrist a bit on some chunky strikes. They have monitors where you can play courses, mini games, or just check yardages, but it won't be accurate since you are hitting on an upslope and the ball is landing on a downslope. I'm rarely here in Los Angeles and I was so excited to play a new course here in Glendale. Upon arrival to check-in I was told that my significant other could not ride in my own cart that I had paid for because it would mess up the pace of play. When I offered to pay for a spectator fee they tried to make me pay for a green fee IN ADDITION TO THE CART FEE. Never in my years of golfing have I been told to pay for a green fee for a spectator. I'm highly disappointed with this course and the lack of sympathy for us as they could not make accommodations. I'm just baffled how someone that will only be sitting in the cart will disrupt the pace of play. I don't plan on coming back to experience this course and I don't recommend coming if you typically like to have a spectator while you play. What a scam. read more

The most unprofessional mismanaged golf course I have ever had the misfortune of playing at. Review of our experience. T times are every 8 minutes for a course that only beginners go to because it's a short par 60. Snack room was completely locked and no employees on site. The time before when we went the old lady said they were working her to the ground and not finding her help so I am guessing she finally gave up. No Marshalls anywhere to speed up people who are just standing around to T off when they can't get 100 yards with a driver. Finally the icing on the cake. After we started 30 min late because the T times are so close that you are bound to get backed up they tell us when we get back that we can't take the cart to the car to unload our stuff because they are an hour behind on T times and have no carts to give the guests. As I told that guy in the end this course is an embarrassment to the city of Glendale and to golfing in general. Whoever manages this place should be ashamed of themselves. Whats up with the recent price gauging??? Same prices or more than brookside and griffith? C'mon Scholl. The last "fun and affordable" course gone to absolute crap because of greed. 52$ on veterans day without a cart, if you want a cart tack on 14$ more dollars for a grand total of 66$ for scholl canyon. LOL. Ownership should be embarassed. Also becasue of tee times being crammed together, expect a nice saturday or sunday golf game to take 5 hours or more for a course that should take 2 hours to complete even while walking lol. If you get a good deal on a weekday where maybe you play hooky from work and noone is on the the course, its worth it. Such an amazing course, great views, nice holes, perfect atmosphere. I am writing this because I was treated unfairly by one of your employees, a short Asian guy who was working there during the evening said to me "if you don't like it, go somewhere else," The machine gives out less balls than it is supposed to sometimes. But it is okay as long as you match up when you complain. Throughout the last week, it was less but the ok amount dropped. But it happened yesterday. It gave me around 90 balls while the medium bucket had around 80 balls. Believe it or not, I counted them one by one. I went to the office and I got some more balls to compensate for that. One of the guys gave me some more balls. (the short Asian guy was there) And to be honest with you, it was not the first time I got some more balls because of that. There were a couple of times I did that because it gave me significantly less balls before. However, it gave me around 80 balls this time today, and I went to the office to complain again that it was giving a lot less than it was supposed to, hoping they would match up the number of balls. If you see the number I mentioned above, you would know that there was no difference between the medium bucket and the large bucket. The large bucket has almost the same amount of balls as the medium bucket? I understand it could happen. and I asked him if it makes sense, he said "it doesn't!" Then he said "Then email the GM." plus said a bunch of things about Starbucks making smaller cup sizes. Hey, do you think that is a good example ??? Even if Starbucks makes cup sizes smaller, there is a significant difference between Grande and Venti !!! He said he can't give me more balls if you complain everyday. I was hoping that you guys could fix it, but you couldn't And this was the time he added "if you don't like it, go somewhere else!" ??? Wow!!!??? I didn't see that coming. Unfortunately, I can understand why the inimitable Scholl Canyon has plummeted both in reputation and prestige as of late. The hiring and development practice of client-facing talent is a far cry from what is expected of oft affluent and older clientele. An incident today has sufficed my claim. When purchasing a new, TaylorMade set of expensive golf balls and a few water bottles, I was informed by the part-time front desk associate that my total would be $48. About to swipe my card, I found that there were cost differences between 1 and 2 of the waters. Upon asking about the incongruence, the young lady attending seemed to take exception to my question as though I was causing her an inconvenience. She paused before asking sarcastically, "I can make them more expensive, if you would like that?" Not fully registering the comment, I swipe my card and after examining the customer facing screen, I was surprised to read $51. Weird interaction, it's fine. I can stomach that people are young, inexperienced, and that it is a busy Memorial Day. The funny thing is, after having our golf cart queued up, and about to take off, I inform who appears to be the manager in the event he would want or care to know how his staff is treating his guests. After hearing of my interaction, which he tells me he was within earshot of, he offers, "she is young, she is typically a sweetheart." Is it not odd then, that the manager who heard this behavior would not proactively offer his own club members a personal apology? Is this the reputation that Scholl Canyon has amassed? There is an old saying about a canary in a coal mine. If this is representative of the mistreatment (let's avoid saying discrimination just yet), that Scholl can be characterized by, maybe it is finally time to look to new or increasingly competent management to take over. Here are a list of suggestions that could have avoided the interaction: 1) Don't have newbie work her first week on a busy day 2) Hey, manager, why don't you step in if you are within earshot of a foul situation (or amend your policy to tolerate malfeasance) 3) Hire the right people (nepotism is a common practice, please avoid hiring your niece) 4) Develop the right people by correcting them if they do not represent the business properly - have you heard of accountability and responsibility? 5) Do not assume that one easy going member will just shrug off an awkward but utterly disrespectful interaction. Word spreads quick, especially now that you are in decline, one would think you would have your ears to the ground. At $44 a month, one would expect otherwise commonplace decency and respect. Scholl has been around since 1993, just like me, but shows all the courage and integrity of an adolescent. Farewell Scholl. We will be cancelling our subscription with immediacy. read more

Short, but challenging... everything breaks away from the mountains. Unfortunately, people who don't respect the game come here on occasion. We were behind two groups of 3, who obviously knew each other and joined up to make a group of 6. Loud music blasting, and general f*#ing around. When we got to the 14th hole there was a fresh foot-long divot right next to the hole on the green where one of these idiots decided it would be cool to tee-off towards the dump. Totally screwed the green. Maybe Scholl Canyon should invest in a Marshall to make sure things are cool on the course instead of allowing these hoodlums out there. read more

Short course at 3k yards..make sure you get a cart because the hills here are gnarly and I don't recommend walking the course. The greens run fast. Make sure you set yourself up for your next shot. Bring lots of balls with all the canyons in play. Course is usually packed depending on what time pace of play can be long about 4hours a bit pricy Also IMO.
