We had a bad experience…read more Tonight it's raining. Because of the summer heat, the inside of Hempels was very humid. By keeping all the windows closed this place smelled like some kind of smoky burger sweat shop and we left smelling like burgers. No cards accepted? Yeah, we know, we know: "it is Bavaria" but it's also 2018. It feels a bit unforgivable to not accept cards in the most international and "cosmopolitan" borough in Nuremberg... and the nearest ATM is a good 15-minute round trip walk (not necessarily Hempels issue, but still doesn't contribute to a great dining experience). The burgers can be good. But they are inconsistently prepared when the place is busy. Tonight, a group of three of us paid app. €50 for burgers, fries, and a beer. When we cut into the burgers they were pretty raw -- mostly pink and pretty wet in the center (see attached photo). To add insult to injury, when we took them to the counter to ask if they could grill them some more, we were lectured that if we wanted them "well done" we should have ordered them that way (who said anything about wanting them "well done" - we just wanted them "not fairly raw"). The cook gave us a bit of a hard time and said he felt they looked medium. Why bicker with your customer? Just offer to put it back in the grill for another couple minutes. Too overpriced to be talked to so condescendingly by the staff and for such a poor overall experience. Can't believe I paid €50 for that...

My husband and I are always looking for new places to hit up that meet the "vegetarian friendly" criteria. Hempels has two tasty veggie burgers to offer. I had the Halloumi cheese burger and had a few bites of the other veggie burger and they both were quite tasty. The potato wedges were nicely seasoned and extra crispy too! The restaurant itself is small but they offer outside seating on warmer days. It gets pretty crowded on weekends.

After heading into my fourth week traveling Europe and my second in Germany, I was craving…read moresomething other than spaetzle, sausages, pretzels and potatoes. I noticed a proliferation of burger restaurants in Nuremberg and Burgerista was so cute that I decided to pop inside. I'm so glad that I did! The interior is super cute and decorated with bright, cheerful wooden chairs and tables. As with most establishments in Germany, it is sleek, clean and modern. The menu is mostly in English but the workers spoke limited English, something that I found very weird. I was trying to speak German while ordering what was listed on the menu as a "Route 66 Burger with American cheese." If you're the type of traveler who expects to be catered to by assuming everyone in Europe speaks English, don't go here. You'll need some limited German (or really, really good pointing skills) to order. The employees were VERY friendly and welcoming, full of smiles in spite of a minor language barrier. In fact, they were some of the nicest people we encountered in Germany. After placing your order, you'll get a pager that beeps when it's ready. I loved that my food was cooked to order. Fresh is the best! While these burgers are nowhere near as good as ones you can get in the U.S.A., they are still high quality and tasty, even by American standards. The quality of ingredients, especially the produce, was some of the best ever. You'd never find beautiful ruby red tomatoes, crispy and cold lettuce or sweet onions like these at Fuddruckers! The meat wasn't well seasoned but it was juicy and well prepared. The only negative about this place comes from the bun. I didn't enjoy the semi-hard sesame seed bun and ended up taking most of it off my burger. I know Germany isn't known for its great bread (well, I guess they're known for that heavy rye-style bread), but these buns were pretty bad. All burgers here are unfortunately saddled with this subpar bun. I'd also take a pass on the "cheese" fries. What you get is regular fries with an overpriced side of plastic cheese. Yuck. The fries themselves were delicious and the "cheese" was an unnecessary expense. I was surprised to find that the bacon on my burger was crispy and tasty and just right. I expected chewy, undercooked bacon but it was the best part of my burger. Major positives: free wifi, made to order burgers, fresh produce, lots of condiments right on the table, fresh herb pots on the table so you can pick your own to eat, and -- wait for it -- FREE REFILLS ON SODAS AND AN ICE MACHINE! Let that sink in. **Free refills and an ice machine!** Those of you who frequently travel Europe get what's so amazing about that! I'm giving Burgerista 5 stars because of this!

Serious blasphemy aside, I obviously had to check it out for myself. So how is it? - Very central location. - Well designed and uncluttered menu. - Amazing fries! Seriously, these chunky fries really taste good. - Surprisingly huge burgers. - Excellent soft buns, despite the size. - Oh and btw, they have bibs for grownups - perfect to stuff your beard under & not look like a total mess after eating a burger! (The hipster in me approves) I really wouldn't compare it to the In-N-Out Burgers, but compared to McD & BK it really outshines them by miles. Tip: Try the pink lemonade and definitely check out the BBQ apple sauce.

Not all that glitters is gold…read more Pretty fitting description of this place really, the first impression is amazing! The design & look is lovely, the furniture gives it a nice upper-end-of-the-bar flair and the menu sounds delicious and diverse. But then, the crash: Neither bun, patty or fries were fresh & home made... If I want frozen stuff, I can buy it myself thank you very much. So much for "the best burger in town" The "home made ice tea" was the biggest joke though, putting Monin syrup & soda water in a glass does not make it home made guys! It's always sad when a place looks amazing and then the food is a let down... mediocre burgers (there is no reason to use precooked patties nowadays) and crappy ice-tea will surely not help you survive in this market! My honest opinion? These guys need to throw away the menu and start over - the place looks great, stop saving (very little) cash on frozen crap!

Alright, I was a little uneasy from what I read but I decided to see if the owner made some changes…read moresince those reviews and I believe they did! First of all I gotta say the waiting staff is very friendly and the atmosphere is absolutely great. The restaurant is decorated with multiple low lumen lamps that give off a kind of retro vibe while the restaurant itself has nicely toned walls and colours to match with the lamps. The food was very good! The establishment first brought over a selection of homemade sauces to use on the burger that I ordered (Even though I used em for the fries, but sauces are sauces!) and gave an explanation of all of them. Shortly afterward the meal was completed and the burger was amazingly stacked, looking at it made me feel like I was looking at one of those burger commercials! My meal consisted of a cheeseburger with fries using a normal wheat bun. Now on to the taste: It was simply great! The entire burger and its content mixed together very well and produced a variety of flavours featuring fresh veggies and a juicy meat patty in the middle covered with a moderate slice of cheese giving it all a wonderful orchestra of flavours that just sat perfectly! The bun was also lightly toasted which gave it a nice warm and soft feel with a thin crispy layer. It was not pre-frozen ingredients like previous reviews stated, unless I can't tell the difference since I haven't eaten a frozen meal in quite some time! Now the small issues I got with the place: lack of information! I feel like the homemade sauces should have some labelling on them, even if its just a small label or written on the bottle with a marker because I had a hard time remembering all 4 when the waiter quickly explained them all to me. Another problem I found was the menu did not state what ingredients came on the burger, simply stating by my meal for example "Meat, Cheese", Now I can't really start much with that, but I think including at the top of the menu "Every burger contains onions, pickles, etc. etc." would be very helpful in knowing what I'll be getting. All in all the taste during my visit was amazing, and the portion sizes perfect for me which made me full to a good point while the prices aren't astronomical with approximately 15€ per person including drink. Atmosphere and staff was pleasant and I will be visiting this place when I'm close by and I want a good burger!

I ordered the Frank'ness Burger and it's the best burger I've ever had! The beef was extremely tender and juicy, cooked perfectly with just a slslight smoky char on top for flavor. Then it's topped with crispy bacon, lettuce, red onion, and tasty truffle mayonnaise. It was a burst of flavor with every bite. Even the pretzel bun had good flavor and it was toasted for a nice crunch. On the side the burger comes with a fresh salad that perfectly balances the heaviness of the burger. It has cucumber, red onion, croutons, spinach leaves and a balsamic vinegarette on top. As an extra side, I ordered the house potatoes which were super delicious. Perfectly breaded, crispy, and soft inside, with a sour cream based sauce and chives on top. Everything from the food, to the service, to the atmosphere was wonderful! While the price is more than you'd expect to pay for a burger, this isn't your everyday burger and it's worth every euro.
