Wow, what an Old town Scottsdale gem! We stumbled upon this adorable restaurant tucked in between shops. It has an outdoor patio and indoor dining. We had a fairly good size group of 7 people and everyone tried something different on the menu. The food looked and tasted delicious. My favorite was the tasty avocado toast, and perfectly cooked bacon. We also tried their coffees and drinks, again all were perfect. The staff were quick and all so friendly and were able to help with a few questions we had. But the win was the ambiance, it was like being in a quiet, secret garden in the middle of town. read more

I believe the groups were evenly split between business associates and friends. We ate on the welcoming patio which had a water feature that muted the many conversations. There was plenty of open space between tables, so there was a feeling of privacy. We ordered using the QR square and our breakfast came out quickly. I had the Ham, Egg and Cheese breakfast sandwich. The ham was extremely good quality and plentiful. The egg was cooked just right. I appreciated that the yolk was broken, spilling its liquid gold, upon service. This preempted a mess from biting into an unbroken yolk. The Brioche bun worked perfectly, since it was light but its crust held everything together. We also had the Breakfast Bowl. This was just okay. It had several yummy ingredients, yet they were either unseasoned or under-seasoned. The portion size was appropriate. My friends & I sat in their beautiful outdoor garden. I love that you order & pay on your phone by scanning their QR code on the table. Then they just bring the delicious food out to you! I was surprised at how quickly our food came out (it was Sunday morning) and it wasn't too busy. It was so easy to order, I wish most places did this I ordered a spicy chicken sandwich (it wasn't really spicy, the sauce that it came with was supposed to be the spicy part. I like spice, so I wish the whole chicken was actually spicy.) That being said, the sandwich was still DELICIOUS on that brioche bun and I paired with a side order of their fries. I absolutely love trying out new places to eat and most especially breakfast / lunch. I'm always looking for a new spot that has a great atmosphere with good food and this hit the spot. There's outdoor seating and Indoor seating at this place. It's also a seat yourself kind of place which is nice and they have little instructions frames at the tables on how to order and pay for your food, that they walk out to you (if you're outside) to your table. We found a spot right as we walked in at 10:30am on a Friday and it kept getting busier which makes sense cause there are also office spaces for rental. A lot of the folks seated also had their laptops so it looks like a lot people use this like a Starbucks to work and eat and drink. The outdoor area had a lot of greenery which you don't see a lot in Arizona so I loved it. I only have this a 4 star because they forgot to bring out one of the meals and have to still go in to show your ID for the alcoholic beverage. There were 4 of us and we ordered a breakfast dish each along with a couple of drinks. 3 plates of food came out and then the non alcoholic drinks with 2 teas that came out when we only ordered 1. After 3 of us were waiting so hungry we dove in to eat , my sister's food (her bday) did not come yet so we went in to ask. They said they would make it ASAP and bring it out. After 3 of us were done eating and it had been 10 minutes since we went and asked for it, it was not ready so we went back in to just ask for a refund for the food but they said "well it's made now so take it out" we asked for a to go box and just brought it home. As for the alcoholic beverages, they should have a server come to the desk to check the ID Instead of them coming out just to say "hey, you ordered drinks, please get it at the bar with your ID" that was Inconvenient. It's been fifty years since we've visited Scottsdale. Today we went to the charming Old Town and spent the afternoon wandering in and out of all the shops. Some of the original shops are still in business but many have turned hands during the passing of time. Old Town is known for its art, turquoise, kitschy souvenir shops, high end boutiques AND my favorite, FOOD. Strolling through the town made us hungry as we walked by each dining establishment savoring the enticing smells wafting through the air. There were some restaurants where in normal circumstances we most certainly would have eaten but Covid has limited our options for safety reasons. We set out looking for an open patio setting and came upon Schmooze. What a beautiful patio setting for al fresco dining. The patio is large, tables are spread out at safe distances, seating is wherever you would like to sit. The lush plantings, bubbling fountains and fire pits make for a soothing sensory experience. Contactless ordering is a bit confusing and somewhat challenging. Each table has a QR Code that is scanned into your smart phone which brings up the menu from where you are supposed to be able to order and then add to your cart. After four unsuccessful attempts, I finally donned my mask, went inside and placed my order. Several items on the menu were unavailable and the menu board on the wall inside did not match the online menu. While placing my order, the first two entrees I ordered were unavailable. I finally chose an entree that was suggested by the cashier even though it was not on the menu. Payment is required before eating, so after paying, I returned to my outdoor table and joined my wife. About five minutes later, a wait staff member came to our table and informed us that the entree I ordered was unavailable. Not having a paper menu and having problems bringing up the menu on my phone, I sensed the impatience of our wait staffer so I ordered an entree I recalled from the menu. The food was promptly delivered. It was plated nicely and tasted great. The substituted item was $2.00 more than the entree I had ordered. They never mentioned the difference in cost and did not ask us to make a price adjustment. The atmosphere was relaxing; we were not pressured to eat and run. It was overall a pleasant dining experience, despite the efforts it took to order and the mix up with the food. read more

Buyer Beware is the best and only way to start this review. Having been to Schmooze for many years, we thought it would be the perfect place to host an event. Little did we know that what is seen on a daily basis is a façade. Dealing with management, was painful. The owner is arrogant and rude and makes promises he can't and has no intention on keeping. He's only in it for himself and to make as much money as he can without providing the service to match. The lack of follow-through, organization and empty promises, in addition to the disconnect between the event coordinator, owner and staff, made what should've been a fun and simple experience very frustrating. As a result of our experience we will never consider using this venue again and would recommend others don't either if they'd like their event to be a success and run smoothly. Such a shame because the venue is pretty... but certainly not worth the hassle and aggravation. read more

I felt like I found a hidden gem with this place. Although there's places to sit inside, the front courtyard garden is the place you want to be. It has super lush plantings (trees, vines, oversize ferns and palms), several water features that mask the sounds of the cars going by, and lots of spray misters to keep you cool. I also saw a large swamp cooler type fan but it wasn't in use the day I was there. We got an IPS and a chardonnay, and split the chicken salad sandwich. The sandwich was yummy with chunks of chicken and fruit on a croissant. And it came with a HUGE amount of extra delicious fries (double fried perhaps?) This is a Hidden Jewel in the old Scottsdale area. Tony, who is the owner and chef has made a little haven in the midst of Main Street. The outside seating is so charming underneath beautiful trees and surrounding a water fountain. The food is great, reasonably priced, and the service is good. Not your typical wait service, be warned. If you're looking for that, you may want to go elsewhere. However, you order from your phone , pay for it, and the food is there an minutes. Inside, there are many young people who hang out, and work with their computers. There's coffee and treats to choose from. There are also rental spaces for business meetings, and a real estate agency. All in all it's an eclectic place, but the food is decent for lunch. Once I found a table and my friend arrived the same manager who told me the back is only for studying sat a family of 7 with many small kids right next to us who ordered food? I'm sorry? I thought the back was just for studying? Thinking it was going to be enchiladas and more Mexican style goodies we were surprised to see Italian food. Companies choice of course. They offered a nice salad with fresh Parmigiano. The marinated zucchini, squash, peppers and asparagus were perfect. A nice caprese salad was available along with a meat, cheese and fruit platter. Everyone was pleased with the chicken Parmigiano which had a hint of smoked flavor in penne. The penne with vodka sauce was a hit too! Now I missed the dessert table, but my husband told me about some cannolis he had seen. The party was small so there wasn't too many people on staff. Service (Candice) was super friendly and attentive. The bartender Lillian was a pro rocked and mixed some awesome drinks. This place isn't just about bacon and eggs. Great food with a great atmosphere! We wanted to eat breakfast outdoors and stumbled upon this place. The outdoor dining area is BEAUTIFUL with ample seating and lots of plants and water structures. You order and pay by scanning the QR code at your table, which makes it very efficient. The omelettes were tasty and the potatoes were nice and crisp. I'm not always a fan of getting bacon, but I was surprised by how good the bacon was. I also got a tiramisu latte with oat milk, which CAN be too sweet for some, but I really enjoyed it. One visit and I'm hooked... I'd been hearing about Schmooze for months from friends but finally made my way in on a recent Friday afternoon to do some work. The place has a great vibe with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, all kinds of comfortable workspaces, and a solid food and drink menu too! I went in after lunch so just went with an iced tea, but I can't wait to go back to try some of their coffee drinks, avocado toast, sandwiches and/or salads. From out of town, and don't spend much time in the southern western states, so I savor the thick fat tortillas you can get around here, buying as many burritos as possible until I become deceased from tortilla overdose. The Breaking Bad Burrito didn't make me want to cook hot meth in a trailer with an unstable crack head, but it was good. I got a cold brew coffee, which was also good, can't really mess that up unless you're a pretentious arrogant prick who feeds me monkey poop coffee, yes that's a thing. The coffee here didn't make me weep to the heavens for redemption from my sins so I could have another. In all seriousness it was exactly good. Nothing more nothing less. My girlfriend got a latte with some syrup that tasted like sun screen off a retired great grandma's neck fat, but they don't make the syrup so no fault to Schmooze's brewers. Say that ten times fast. We were stopped prior to sitting down at one of the many many open tables by a stout gentleman who proceeded to tell us that we were not allowed to have computers at the restaurant. My sister & me both were holding our tablets, but we were not going to be doing any work whatsoever, we were there for coffee and breakfast. We told the owner that we were not there to work, our tablets are not for work and we weren't planning to be on them. The man refused to seat us, said ALL their tables were booked- which was a lie because a large group of five who had no reservation was able to be seated immediately after we started walking away. The owner was DISHONEST and discriminatory. I went to Schmooze a few years ago and loved it, but cannot recommend them anymore due to this incident. As I was about to pay for the order, Hope said it's been taking care of. The owner will take care of it. I figured he read my review and felt guilty. I was going to thank him and share my thoughts with him. Tony was very apologetic, he was sincere and owned up to the way he had acted to us on that particular day. I accepted his apology. I appreciated that he stepped up and demonstrated that he is a man that not just a business owner, but also cares about his customers.
