    BEC on French toast bagel

HUGE bacon egg cheese on a French toast bagel , really fast service and nice employees!

The line is long and they run out of a lot but the wait was worth it. I got a rainbow bagel with vegan veggie cream cheese and it was delicious. The portions were just right! They also did a chai for me with almond milk. The servers were kind despite how busy they were. Nowhere to sit inside so prepare to grab and go. Would definitely come back next time I'm in Philly.

I really enjoyed Schmear It because of their variety of cream cheeses. I was able to order an egg bagel with lox cream cheese. It had everything a lox and bagel would have just in a cream cheese version, which was fantastic! Their espresso could use some upgrading, but hey it's a bagel shop!

They have a great vibe, friendly staff, and a good selection of regular bagels. The fans have plenty to enjoy as others have said. However, it's not worth a trip for the gluten free diner or a picky foodie. The French toast bagel had me excited the whole way there, but it was a bland doggie bagel with cream cheese. That gluten free bagel recipe needs a lot of development. Otherwise, I would recommend it.

Honestly, their bagels are pretty good. It's a really small shop that has a few seats but if you're coming in for a bagel and a coffee, this is a good place to go. Their sizes of their bagels are pretty decent compared to the rest of the ones in Philadelphia and they've got a lot of spreads.

Newly renovated. Bagels are large and service was fast. Looking forward to when they get their espresso machine to start making different types of coffee. This will definitely be my go to place for coffee and bagels when I am here in Philadelphia.

After late night dance party this bagel hit the spot! Service was fast and friendly. I was in and out in a flash . Bevels were fresh and crusty and chewy/ I got the Pen spread - lox and cream cheese mix - and they put a nice portion on my bagel that was tossed just tight. Love the bagels a super convenient location to my hotel.

They don't advertise the many varieties of gluten free bagels nearly enough (IMHO). Almost all the bagel bases are available as GF which was a welcomed surprise. They offer can't-remember-the-name local boutique brewed coffee, too. I made the tame/lame choice of getting the lox and cream cheese (Penn) bagel for my first visit and has me wanting to try their more unique signature options. Wishful thinking: really wish they offered a breakfast egg/bacon type option but alas they do not. Also: theres swings/ open table seating right outside the door in the "alley," -- appreciated given Schmear's interior is efficient (v. small).

The Penn bagel for $6 on an everything bagel.
    Eman S.

Small shop, great service, no seating. I ordered the Penn for $6 on an everything bagel (choice of bagel included) and I enjoyed it. Price-wise, it made sense how much (or how little) salmon was in it. It was chopped salmon mixed into the cream cheese. I enjoyed the bagel itself as well as the amount of cream cheese, I just wish there had been more salmon. Not sure if there's an option to pay for extra salmon but I like my lox bagels with plenty of salmon so I might try that tactic out in future! My friend got the Philly which is lox with Wasabi and soy sauce. She thought it was salty, but to be fair, with a Wasabi and soy sauce mix into lox which tends to me salty, I'd expect a salty bagel. So be prepared, if that's your style, go for it!

    Philly Roll on Everything
    Christopher B.

Fast, friendly and convenient. Decent bagel with fun menu options. Prices are fair. Has the Philly roll and it was fine. Nothing amazing, and a little more fishy than I thought it would be (I do like lox, so that didn't really bother me). Fam had plain bagels w/ cream cheese and were content. The place wasn't busy and the employees were super nice! For a quick breakfast at a fair price, do it!

Solid bagel, I mean as far as Philly bagels go. Got an everything with vegan cream cheese. Bagel could have been toasted a bit more, but there was a decent anount of everything seasoning and plenty of cream cheese which was not too thick and not too runny, just right. The bagels tend to be on the smaller side and the $4 price was reasonable, as was the only $0.50 extra for vegan cream cheese. Service was quick and friendly.

Bagels were tasty and it was fun to choose all of the topping combos. Egg salad needs a little seasoning, but otherwise things were good!

I don't think I've ever visited an an hour where I've seen it not. Often a line going from the counter, down the stairs, all the way to the bathroom. If you're looking for a quick coffee stop, don't expect to be in and out of here. That being said, they've got some kinds of seating not typical of coffee shops, including this nice long U-shaped couch seating. You'll be around with other folks reading or enjoying their joe, but it's a nice change of pace. Working-wise, wi-fi is solid. Outlets are sparse. Hard to stay a long time here. Music is at least at a tolerable level to tune out and is not usually too bumping. Staff here are quick, but won't be the friendliest. They won't be rude either. They're just trying to get through the line so don't take it personally Overall: would much prefer other places like Capital One Cafe for the reasons I visit cafes, but I can see this being a nice place for other more leisurely-natured visits!

It is a very small shop, so there are only a few tables inside, along with a few outside depending on the weather. Although small, the interior is clean and cozy. A single restroom is available. Parking is on the street. Mild noise level. They have a good amount of drink options, including rotating specials, as well as pastries, bread, and misc items like granola and coffee beans. The drinks are delicious - definitely recommend their matcha. The pastries are huge, flavorful, and filling. Slightly dry but I did go right before closing. They have a nice variety of flavors (both sweet and savory), so most palettes will be satisfied. Prices are definitely fair. If I weren't just a traveler passing through, this would easily become a regular spot for me. It's at least on the "must return to" list! 10/10 recommend.

We braved negative degree weather for the roughly 10 minute walk from our hotel. We walked in at a good time. This is the type of place where a reservation for breakfast would be required. We were sat immediately. The dining area is tight. A green velvet bench, marble tables, metal chairs, all packed into a small area. You could very well have your butt brush over the table of the patrons next to you if you have to get up for any reason. It's tight. Our server was around quickly. He was super friendly and kept things conversational, light and sophisticated. My wife ordered an iced latte, I had their hot drip coffee. For a starter, we had to try the cinnamon knot bread. While it wasn't what we were expecting, it was good. Although, we wouldn't order again. The bread is presented as a small loaf, room temperature with a cold cream cheese icing drizzled over top. The bread had a mild cinnamon flavor and was dry. It lacked the sweet, moist dough you expect from a cinnamon bread. My wife ordered the French style omelet. This had gruyere cheese and chives. Beautifully plated, perfectly cooked and the taste was spot on. It was good enough to forget that she paid $21 for just an omelet, no meat, no sides. I ordered the Eggs Benedict. Pretty standard here. The eggs had bright orange yolks which is common for farm fresh eggs. The "coffee" hollandaise didn't come across with a coffee flavor but it was rich and went well with the ham and English muffins. One thing that stuck with me was their drip coffee. Not sure if it has been a while since I had a light roast but the Rival Bros. Revolver coffee was so good, I got a bag of whole beans to bring back home with me. I may even order it again online. Enswell succeeded on all fronts. The ambiance and service was great. The decor, impeccable. The food, thoughtful and tasty. The details from the silverware to the plates added to the experience. We would come back.

Didn't love the copper sharp cheese that was a bit messy and tangy. I kept thinking they must have added some type of sauce on it. I'd much rather come back for a simple fried egg combo and chedda cheese. I was also offered sparkling water, but I do wish it had more fizz. The service start to finish was superb in friendly and fast service. I'd come back for mimosa/bar for sure.
