My husband and I are working our way through the Worlds Best 50 Restaurants right now so of course we had to eat here while in Switzerland! Reservation process was through email for us and we reserved about a month out. The meal starts in a beautiful swanky lounge upstairs where you get apertifs and amuse bouches. The amuse bouches were all amazing! After a few rounds of them, you're brought downstairs into a smaller room for the remaining duration of your meal. Food: most dishes were excellent! The bread was delicious as well. There's a cheese course where you get to select from 21 different types of cheese!! I believe they're all from Switzerland too. It's the Baskin Robbins of cheese. Service/presentation: You're given postcard-sized cards with artwork throughout the meal to accompany certain dishes, which was a unique and interesting touch. The servers spoke English and were of course friendly and well-trained. SS definitely deserves to be on the Top 50 list. Our only complaint, however, was that the experience was too long. We're used to a maximum 3 hour meal, but we were here for almost 5 hours. Either way if you're a foodie traveling to Switzerland, I highly recommend dining here. Ciao! read more

Along with being a gorgeous many-hundreds-year-old castle, kickass hotel, and flagship for chef-celebrity Andreas Caminada, Schloss Schauenstein has a few more awesome things going for it. SERVICE: The restaurant staff are the most gracious, kind, helpful, interested, attentive group I have ever experienced. They clearly love what they do, from the servers to the chefs to the guest services coordinator Lisa. That passion is evident in every aspect of the meal and the experience. FOOD: Show up hungry, because every dish is meant to be a table-top tour of the Swiss countryside- and you'll see some pretty amazing stuff. Dishes served on iPad-based "Lightning Plates," products produce from the region meant to show off Switzerland's incredible terroir, and a collection of flavors totally new to an American like me. When we travel we try to save the pennies to afford to have one "special stay and or meal" and for us on this trip this was it. I had read about this place on the worlds 50 best restaurants list and that prepared me for what would turn out to be one of the best meals I have ever had, however the shear beauty of the area I was not expecting. This is the best restaurant in Switzerland, and one of the top 50 restaurants on the planet. I spent a fortune there having lunch. It lasted four hours, and it was the best food I have ever tasted in my life.This is probably something you might only do once or twice in your life, but it's worth it. The menu you get at that place will change the way you think about food, cooking, the taste of things. And if you still need more reasons to go - it's an incredibly beautiful place, and the people that work there are devoted to excellence and really nice people. read more

It's been a year since we had dinner here and I don't think anything could top the experience for a while if ever! We were on vacation in Switzerland and staying only 15 minutes away from the castle so it was a no brainer to make reservations. I made reservations about a month in advance and even our Swiss friends were surprised that they could accommodate on a such a short notice. Dress to impress and arrive early and hungry! Unfortunately the day of our dinner it was pouring rain and got dark fast so we could walk around the castle and take pictures. But the moment we arrived we felt like the most important guests that night - we were greeted by the car with and umbrellas and given a small tour. Even though we were 30 min late, we were assured that the service wouldn't start without us so we didn't have to miss any courses. The service didn't miss a beat all night! And Andreas comes out at the end of the meal and chats with every table, he was kind enough to write some recommendations for us in the area.
