Came out to Schlafly on a Friday right around 5:30pm. They had quite a bit of seating on all different levels and areas of the brewery. My partner and I decided to sit at the bar. We started with a cider and raspberry hefeweizen beer. The cider was more hoppy than sweet/fruity. The hef was a nice light beer but raspberry taste was minimal. On the food end we started with the pretzel sticks. The sticks themselves were a bit more done than we'd like but cheese sauce was delicious! For entrees, my partner got the fish sandwich on special and I the five cheese pizza. Both were very large portions! The sandwich had good flavor and fries were nice and crispy. The pizza had a thicker crust and more of a sweet sauce. The biggest deterrence to our visit was the service. Staff behind the bar was minimal as they were being pulled to run food to tables. We were checked on more minimally in the second half of our visit and our main entrees took a bit longer to arrive. read more

I live near Main Street so this is a place my husband and I will frequent. They are never really busy when we come and they have a lot of seating. We like to sit at the bar because there are lots of TVs and the bartenders are always nice. Last time we came the bar was packed and the bartender ended up taking some off our tab because of the wait. This was super sweet. The food is good as well. I got the Buffalo chicken salad. It was good and I liked that there was a lot of chicken. My husband got the chicken sandwich. Both were good choices. I would say the beer is the best part about this location. Happy with my lunch! As a group of 15, we were all very happy with the service and the food. I got the chicken salad sandwich and coleslaw. The smoked honey chicken was very good with a nice touch of sweetness and smokiness. I expected lettuce & tomato but it was plain and that's ok. Super neat place that is open and clean. We sat at the bar and had great attentive service with Cathy. We ordered the Chicken Wings and Reuben. The wings are amazing. That rub is to die for. Dave was an amazing bartender. He was so nice but super real and honest. It was a breathe of fresh air. Dave helped us with what to drink and food order as well! Schlafly Bankside is hit or miss. I've had really great meals here and I've had not so great meals here. It's hard to review because they are not consistent. Service is consistently slow and has been so for as long as they have been here. It seems like help is hard to find these days, so I don't fault the restaurant. Our Go-To Schlafly Bankside has been my husband & I's go-to spot for a bite to eat and a beer lately. We love going there and grabbing a seat at the bar. The service is always great and there are plenty of TV's around the bar for the sports-lover. The ambiance creates a chill and laid back atmosphere. We love the variety of beers on draft. I always find a seasonal item I love! They also do flights (even a "round trip" flight which is EVERY beer on the menu - perfect for sharing with a table). The buffalo chicken salad is a FAVORITE. The lettuce & avocado is so fresh, crispy Buffalo chicken bites, corn & black beans. I often find myself craving it at least once a week. The beer cheese soup is also delicious. My husband & I often get both and share! He also loves the smoked wings here. The Cajun turkey sandwich is my second go-to choice here. My husband and I were looking for a late night dinner on a Friday night and Schlafly in Old Towne St Charles came to mind. It may have been the first time we visited this location. The five stars come from the pleasant surprise that Happy Hour starts again at 8pm Monday - Friday. Drafts and Apps are all $5! This prompted my husband to order off the available app menu. He got the pretzels, nacho and gyros. The pretzels were excellent with a cheesy dip. The nachos had a smoky flavor. He ended up taking home the gyro and a great deal of the nachos. Now if it would have just me, the rating would have been much lower. I would suggest you add some plant-based items on the menu. Us vegans have no choices except maybe a modified salad. I ordered the fish and fries as an alternative and was disappointed. The fish was bland and the fries just okay. The happy hour Hefeweizen was great as expected. Our waitress was awesome! I think we saw our waitress 3 times. Never got water. Then the food came. I ordered the sausage platter which was really underwhelming and cold somehow. I wanted a table but they were short staffed so I sat at the bar. I ordered an iced tea and the French Dip sandwich with french fries. The sandwich was served very warm and so was the au jus but the fries were disappointing, just luke warm. The shaved prime rib was tasty and tender. The Swiss cheese was perfectly melted and the hoagie was toasted just right. I asked the bartender for a recommendation but she just told me the top sellers. I rely on servers to guide me to solid favorites and what to avoid. I was surprised with the small lunch crowd. I can tell you that after enjoying Trailhead for 20+ years and experiencing how well it was run, when Schlafly's took over in 2020 (after the FINALLY opened), the service immediately plummeted. They cut staff way below necessary levels and the attitude of the employees was terrible (I don't blame them) - the complete opposite of Trailhead. The building is an outstanding location and it should be easy for a business that cares about its customers AND employees to be very successful there. Schlafly got what it deserved - I watched it deteriorate, visiting frequently, and knew it would soon close - and it did. The loss of bartender Dave (we know what happened) was the final straw and it never recovered. I hope a new and robust business with creative and energetic ownership can return that location back to its deserved success and value to Main Street St. Charles and we can all enjoy this historic and beautiful venue again. *** Note: I will say although management reduced the menu selection a lot, the quality of the food from the chef(s) was very good and survived the upheaval of the Schlafly takeover. When we visit the area we usually stop at Schlafly to have a beer. The bar is lovely and the bartenders are always friendly. This time we tried some of the new fall beers and enjoyed them. There are plenty of TVs in the bar area for those that want to keep up with sports. We are looking forward to our next visit. read more

We came in after Oktoberfest, I was surprised it wasn't busy at all. We were sat immediately but where we were sat was hot and it smelled a weird. My kids even mentioned the smell first. The server was super nice. We all got waters and my husband and I got a couple beers. It did take a bit to get but they were still cold when we got them. At first we ordered the fried pickles. AWFUL. They came out drenched in oil and the beer batter was soooo thick. After that we didn't really care for much else, kind of turned us off, So we just ordered nachos to split. The nachos were pretty darn good but they were so small. All in all it will probably be a bit before we head back over. I wish there was kids menus too! read more

We've been to both of the other locations, but planned to hit Bankside and then enjoy Christmas Traditions on a Friday night. The beer is always flawless, but on this visit the food didn't quite meet the standards of the other locations. The steak and fries were good and so was the grilled chicken sandwich, but the smoked brisket Philly and the schnitzel fell flat - simply average. I'm still a fan of Schlafly, but I'm not sure this site is on the same standard or maybe it was a bad night. What a fun place to have lunch. While walking through beautiful Saint Charles, I could smell smoky deliciousness wafting through town. The smoke was emanating from the barbecue being cooked up at Schlafly. We went inside & were tempted by both food & ale. I ordered the Smoky Pulled Pork sandwich with fries. The barbecued pork was excellent on its own. The sauce that came with it sent the meat over the top. This was some good eating. My only complaint is that the $11 sandwich could have been a little larger. It was so good but I craved more. The brewery & ale assortment there beckoned us to return for a beer at another time. If you are not familiar with the St Louis area and looking for a place with 15 minutes of the airport then this is the one! This is a great micro brew and eatery located in Historic St Charles Missouri. Not only do you get the great food and beer selection but you get to blend it with an area that is great to spend time in. When the Louisiana Purchase took place and Lewis and Clark set off on their three year journey in search of the Pacific Ocean, this site was the last civilization that they saw. So fast forward to today and what you have is the Midwest's version of an old early 1800's community. Cobblestone streets lined with historic brick stores and restaurants with this place right at the start next to the parking areas. That makes this the perfect beginning or ending to your St Charles journey. Inside you will find a spaced out interior with multiple levels of dining along with a well stocked bar. Schlafly is a local brewing company with this being one of their three restaurants in the area. You will see multiple tanks for making their different types of beers. The day I was there the menu consisted of 16 different types. If it's hard to decide you can always do a sample "flight" of five different ones or go for the "round trip" and try all 16. Then there was the food. For appetizers my party went with the smoked chicken wings and the nachos. The wings are first smoked then fried to retain the smoky flavor. Add a little bbq sauce and you got one of the best wings ever. The nachos were pretty good too but the wings...! For dinner I did the rib combo. Half slab of fall off the bone ribs. Excellent. Add your choice of chicken, pulled pork or pastrami. I went with the pork. It was good but a little tough at times. Great food, great drinks, friendly staff in an ideal location. If new to the area and want to escape the hotel room then head in over to St Charles and Schlafly's. You'll be glad you did. Do note that there is limited parking next to the building but there is a large parking lot (free) about 500 feet away towards the Lewis and Clark Boat House Museum. It is also located along the Katy Trail if you are biking, walking or whatever. read more

Never knew this place existed until last night! So glad we stumbled upon this restaurant! This is only the fourth time we've decided to dine in at a restaurant since March, so we were so relieved to see how cautious yet comfortable they made the dining experience. Covid-related precautions: All the servers and employees wore masks the entire time we were there. They provided two kinds of menus for customers. We could access the menu on our phones via the QR code on the table. We could also look at their one-time use paper menus. All the tables also provided hand sanitizers. We were seated a little bit closer to one of the tables than we'd like (there was no table in between us, and we were only about 3 feet away. But my back was turned to them, so it didn't bother me too much. If this is an issue for you, I'm sure the server would be fine with re-seating). Food and service: Our server was very nice and attentive, and we didn't wait long for our food. He checked in on us a few times to see if we needed anything but wasn't incessantly bothering us. The food itself was the alright. It is the reason my review is a four star rather than a five. The fries were lukewarm by the time it reached our table. And the burger's pretzel bun was pretty tough to bite through. The nachos also had an off ratio of cheese to meat/toppings. There was a lot of chicken but not enough cheese or any other toppings. So the end of the plate was just fried chicken and chips, which is rather difficult to eat. But the sour was delicious and it arrived at our table rather quickly, so we didn't complain. The brisket sandwich was so delicious. The bread was seasoned really well and the brisket was tender. I would definitely get that again when I go back. Overall, we enjoyed our dining experience. The seasonal decorations were on point, and we loved the overall ambience of the restaurant. And, we got to roam around old town st.
