I will never buy from Schillings again. I have been going back and forth over Andersen windows that I paid thousands of dollars for, they are DEFECTIVE and nobody is taking responsibility for them. Schillings took my money ,75% up front, I bought them from Schillings...THEY need to stand behind the products that they sell. Everyone is blaming someone else, and I am very disappointed in my experience. This has been going on since September. read more

Honestly disappointed I have to write this review. I have used Schillings in the past and was happy with them, but doubt I will use them in the future. Two issues this year so far. In the Spring, I ordered some decking boards from them to replace the boards on my pool deck. When they showed up to deliver, the boards were bottom of the barrel quality. Actually a barrel would have better quality wood than what was on the delivery truck. At least 1/3 of the order were S-shaped boards. Not even exaggerating this. I refused the order and was credited without a charge. Yay for that, but it delayed my project as I now had to go hand pick the deck boards from somewhere else. Fast forward to the fall. It's time to treat and stain the deck. I show up early to the Mokena store. Lots of workers, but no one seems to be doing anything worthwhile. One guy asks me if I need help and at the time I did not. Then I found the stain I wanted and the sample colors were not even close to what the brochure/ online picture showed. I asked the guy who asked if I needed anything and he was super honest and said he just started and dis not know. Pointed me to two guys sitting there. One had no idea how to answer my question and the other was sort of helpful. In any case, I picked up a gallon of the stain I wanted and went to check out. Again - tons of people "working". The lady I got was super nice. She goes to ring me up and says "interesting. This item says it's not here". Her boss was a piece of work and kind of yells at her to call the other office. Ten minutes later she tells me that the stain I have in my hand - ready to pay with cash - is not actually for sale. So not only was no one really helpful, but the trip was a wasted effort as they refused to sell me something that I had in my hand. So many other options. Here we are no door no window this is almost same story posted on 10/18/21 , their sales force can't get it together. All I have to say is this... Don't take anyones money unless you as a salesman verifies we signed everything. Shillings has a paper you must sign even if you paid in full for a special order. I say not my knowledge of what the procedure is, thats the salesman's , YES!! That's ok my wife has fixed this mess of two holes in our house , she ordered a PODS we packed up our dining room and have it in storage so the in-laws can move to our dining room for the next 12 weeks. So Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner is out somewhere that I can only order from the selected menu the restaurant has chosen . I'm waiting for the Shillings family to invite us over. read more

I am going to sound like a complete, and utter "Karen" for this post and I'm not going to social media to be petty. I'm going to social media because after over hundreds of phone calls, emails, texts over the span of 14 months I don't know what else to do. I feel like I'm shouting into the wind and no one can hear me. I've tried the calm approach, the angry approach, the patient/impatient approach... I've been kind, firm, demanding. I've begged, pleaded, and so on. Nothing has worked. So if this post could maybe help someone shopping for windows/doors from Andersen/Schillings, maybe that will be the only silver-lining out of this mess. - We originally ordered our Andersen patio door from Schillings in MAY 2022. - On 8/4/2022 the windows and doors showed up for installation. The patio door was missing. - We are told it's coming in a few days because it's a different series. - On 8/8/2022 we're told it's back ordered until September. - End of September, we're told mid-oct. - On 10/18/2022 the patio door shows up! It's incorrect. Wrong size. We're then told it will be here end of November. - 10/20/2022, our builder goes to Home Depot to purchase a temporary door so we can still move in on our scheduled date. - We moved in our home at the end of 10/22. - 11/22/2022 the door comes! It's incorrect. It's the wrong exterior and wrong interior colors. - The door has to be reordered and you guessed it, it's back ordered... until MAY 2023. - We live in our home with the incorrect colors, and unfinished trim. - May/23 and June/23 pass. I, myself, reach out to Schillings to check on the status of this door on July 18th, 2023. I'm told the door is in. Would've been nice to have been informed instead of reaching out instead. Whatever. Door gets scheduled for installation 7/25/2023. - Today: July 25th, 2023 the door shows up. And if you have good intuition you've probably already guessed... it's incorrect. One panel is correct, the other is not. The cut out/drillings are the incorrect size. The handle doesn't fit and the drillings don't align to our existing frame. So now, we are almost at ONE YEAR since they showed up with the incorrect door and fourteen months since ordered. We're living in our home with the incorrect door since October. Now we have mismatched doors until who in the world knows when. read more

Recently ordered cabinets from them. They ordered the wrong products (partial overlay instead of full) and filler pieces and sold us touch up kit which isn't needed. The cabinets came with one. I had another family member use them and there were mistakes in their order also. read more

Worst supplier I've ever dealt with with. Failed to communicate at every step. "Lost" my truss order. They caused serious delays in my home building project which ultimately turned into thousands of dollars of waste. Find another lumber yard. These guys should not be in business. read more

Very disappointed, I shopped here before for some home-improvement needs but this past Monday I stopped in inquiring about hardy board. It took a few minutes to get the right sales rep to find what I was looking for. So after giving dimensions and inquiring about the different types I was told I would get a phone call the next morning with a quote. By the next day I was on the phone calling looking for my quote. The sales rep apologized and said he was waiting on a quote and would get back to me. He call me back later asked me a few questions and told me he would get back to me. It's a week later now I'll be shopping elsewhere for my home improvement products from now on. Very disappointed. read more

On June 11th 2019, I emailed a store manager, Kyle Patterson. I informed him about an issue with my sales person, Joe Knipple. Joe increased my lumber price by $3000 the day before my delivery. Due to the fact that I have to deliver this home to my client by December and my carpenters were ready to start framing the net day, I went ahead with the purchase and delivery. I emailed both quotes to Kyle. After reviewing both lumber quotes, Kyle acknowledged that something didn't look right. Kyle lead me to believe he would resolve the issue. I Never heard back from Kyle. That issue was Not resolved. As a matter of fact, the issues worsened. Not only did my price go up by $3000, the take off that Joe Knipple did for my job was way off. He had a ridiculous amount of excessive lumber shipped out for the roof. His unscrupulous, business practice must've earned him a really good commission at my expense. I had to email and call the store multiple times to have Schillings pick up the excessive lumber. Joe Knipple has been fast to return my call when he's about to make a sale but slow to return a call or email otherwise. I have received really bad customer service and dishonest business practice from Schillings Mokena location. I've made multiple request to receive my invoices at the time of my purchase. I have also received invoices for material with no price listed.Then I'll receive an invoice with ridiculously priced lumber. So far, I have received nothing but excuses from Kyle about the excessive lumber stemming from Joe's corrupt take off. I am waiting to receive the full amount for the returned lumber. It would be nice if the CEO, Dean Schillings cared about customer service and addressed these issues! I reached out to Dean but I haven't heard back from him........Oh thats right...Schillings already made their money from me. Women of color be ware of doing business with Schillings. I have been treated Very different from other Builders/Contractors that do business here. read more

Not just for contractors! We finished our basement after buying it unfinished. We used a variety of contractors and bought most of our supplies from tile to doors to trim here. They can be busy so you might not get help right away. But the staff we dealt with were pleasant and helpful from the people in the store to the guys loading at the warehouse. read more

I went looking for flooring and kitchen. I was told the flooring I liked and had seen at another store had mold issues in the cork underlay. That's why they didn't carry it. Ironically cork doesn't trap moisture. So I moved on to the kitchen. I waited for a different sales person to come help. She had a poor attitude. She said I needed to come back when I had a budget and measurements. When I shared that we had measured but my husband had them and I wanted some basic background, she begrudgingly answered. I left the store soon after. They lost my potential sale. read more

I don't come here very often but I do get Water softener salt here frequently because of the low prices. The staff is consistently friendly, personable, and is all about making your experience a good one. My parents have bought countertops and cabinets from them and they've turned out beautifully. We went here to get kitchen cabinets. Process ordering was great--the two ladies in the cabinet department were great. The problems came in when the cabinets finally came in. 2 doors had nicks and one whole cabinet had a big nick. Plus one of the cabinets was damaged at the bottom. They gave us $150 for our troubles and ordered new doors/cabinets without questions but it still took months instead of weeks to finish our kitchen. We also ordered a pantry door which they said would take 11 weeks to come in but then it came in, in only 6 weeks but it was slightly warped. Thank goodness the person installing it could make it look half way decent. Kitchen looks great but not sure if I can recommend this place for anything! Had to do update this--we received the new cabinets and they were the wrong color. Schillings gave us a check so we can get them installed but stated this was a one time deal. We are out of luck if the new cabinets Are wrong again. Don't use this place for cabinets. read more

I like this place-because they have a really large selection in a variety of home areas whether it's kitchen, bath, flooring etc. There's a great deal to choose from, someone immediately greets you as you walk in the door but it feels like a no-pressure greeting, rather than a "I'm here on commission and am going to track you around the store." They feel helpful rather than bothersome. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. This business chooses to keep employees who don't do their job. When we started building our home one of the first things we ordered was our front door. It is now end of October and it was suppose to be ordered end of March. Time goes by and when we ask for ETA for front door they say 3 months. Well okay not the best news but we can deal with that. Well 3 months go by and we ask for ETA. Come to find out Mike their employee NEVER ordered our front door. And orders are about another 4-5 months out. Imagine the frustration. For us homeowners who are ready to move in but the front door is not yet ready. Not to mention he also messed up our order for all of our home windows and back yard sliding door. He ordered a transit window we did not ask for and now they won't take it back or refund us. Even though they have acknowledged mike was to blame. As a business owner myself I would never recommend them and if you do decide to do business with them PLEASE I WARN YOU DO NOT WORK WITH MIKE. I've had some of their employees even tell me personally that Mike does this very very often with his customers. read more

We had everything picked and paid for in less than one hour. She also helped later in the process when I had issues with an installer. Stay away!! Remodeled my kitchen , purchased everything from Schilling had problems with the tile starting about a three weeks after it was laid. Contractor had to rip up and replace several spots on the floor, it is an ongoing problem . Had the store manager Bob and his tile "expert" look at it said there was nothing wrong , Thanks to Bob and his expert the contractor isn't going to do anything either Tiles are loose , grout cracking !!! Can't even purchase tiles to replace because they have been discontinued. So much for supporting local businesses read more

I have frequented Schilling at least five times in the past two months, purchasing tiles and wood for a bathroom/closet remodel. All consultants and salespeople that I've had contact with were knowledgeable and extremely helpful. They assisted with layout of tiles, calculated amount of tiles required, and even helped with grout color. They also helped me choose planks of wood needed to complete a closet floor. I was extremely grateful to all, especially Alex, and will definitely return to Schilling's for any home design projects. read more

I placed a custom order for shower doors and the first disappointing policy was that a deposit of 75% was required at the time of the order. Secondly I had to wait 2 weeks for someone to come out to measure (this is on an ASAP order and after repeated phone calls to Shillings). Thirdly after the measure the other 25% was due BEFORE installation (company policy). So now Schilling has full payment and it is over 3 weeks since the measure without a word from Schillings or Foremost who installs the product for them. At this point I have put in a call today for a status and was told I would receive a phone call with an update. Very disappointing experience. read more

There were several issues with my order caused by the manufacturer of the vanity that I ordered and my salesperson. I was pretty frustrated but management stepped in and worked to make things right with the vanity I ordered and correcting the issues with my salesperson in ways that completely exceeded my expectations. Schillings is an excellent company to work with for all your home improvement needs! Schilling has been able to give us great suggestions and deals on helping redo our house, including flooring, and both bathroom and kitchen countertops. Schillings was very easy to work with and very professional. The contractors that work with the company were excellent as well - everything is set up and ready to go by the time you walk out the door. Also, if you haven't, take a walk around the store. It is one of the most renovated, clean, and up-to-date establishments I have had the pleasure to be able to shop within. Five stars! I went in to order an Andersen window and instead took the salesman's recommendation to go with a Plygem window since we were in a hurry for it. I was told by the salesman that the lead time was only 2-3 weeks and it usually was 2 weeks. My husband and I starting calling after the 2-3 weeks & were told that they didn't know why the window was not there. We were told that our salesman would call the manufacturer & call us back. I spoke with the salesman also & he told me he would call me the next day and still no return call. It finally arrived 5 weeks after it was ordered. Poor customer service from the window department, would never recommend purchasing windows from them! read more

Hi. Although we are happy with the hardwood we bought at a good price we had issues with the quality afterwards. Wood pieces coming off the edges and the wood was very soft that after 6 months the floor in high traffic areas like near the laundry room, in the kitchen and staircase landing look like they've seen wear and tear for a decade. I suspected this type of damage would be covered under the manufacturer's "40 year warranty". I contacted Sabrina Casey who was a pleasure to work with and she began the process with this email: "I have forwarded your hardwood issues to our purchasing dept. They will contact the hardwood rep and they will determine a plan." The following week I received this email: "I have been communicating with our Flooring manger regarding your concerns. Here is what was determined: unfortunately, denting and scratching are not defects with hardwood." Sabrina ignored all the photos I sent her of the chipping wood off the side of the wood planks. When I asked her she replied: I am sorry that you are in this position. Please let me know your thoughts and what it is that you would like us to do to assist you in this situation. Nice lady, but, I guess if you want warranty support you're going to have to pay them to fix it. I found a good contractor and he's charging me $800 to replace the defective planks. Obviously I'm not too happy about this outcome. I like Sabrina, but, her floor manager Ryan Schneider who made the decision probably isn't going to like this review. read more

We bought a Therma Tru door and had it pre-finished. The finish was pretty expensive, but I thought might as well get it professionally done, it will last longer right!? I was WAY off! They use the distributor Seal-Rite for the door assembly and finishing and we're extremely disappointed with the quality of both. First, Seal-Rite forgot to ship the hardware for the side lights, when i called them on it they tried to blame me saying i probably miss-placed the box... They found it in the factory later and it took them almost 3 weeks to get it to Schillings! Over those 3 weeks i had to keep calling to get status instead of being kept up to date. The pegs that fill in the screw holes are protruding, on at least 4 of them... The biggest issue is how they market the finish as "Superior Durability", but it comes off extremely easy. We had to loosen the handle to re-position it and the finish came off and needs to be touched up already. The warranty doesn't cover something like that, it's considered damage and not normal use... There's also a spot on the outside that's peeling already, there's a couple more issues but i'm not going to bore you with everything. The Seal-Rite rep at Schillings has been avoiding the issue for over 3 weeks now and refusing to get back to me. I had to call Therma Tru directly, who then called Schillings and they eventually got a hold of the rep who just said "It doesn't warrant a service call." Well then why couldn't you get back to me 3 weeks ago and we could discuss why it should or shouldn't be covered!? He's just hoping the issue goes away and i give up. So now we paid top dollar for the finish on the door and it's completely piss poor and the company's customer service is awful. The door's in and it was a custom order so it's not like we can take it back. Both companies, Seal-Rite and Schillings, are not willing to do anything about, so it's pretty much we're $hit outta luck. We're also looking to replace our front door and windows, but after this there's no way we'll be going back there. If you do buy a door there, DON'T GET IT FINISHED by Seal-Rite!!! read more
