The Granite & Marble Depot did an excellent job on removing my old counter tops and replacing them with the new ones. The office staff, the person measuring the counter top, and the installers were completely helpful and professional. Cassie in the office was fantastic, very accommodating, and responsive. My old counter tops were black laminate and I was looking to upgrade to a material and color that would lighten and modernize my kitchen. Their pricing was in line, if not a little less expensive, then the other two places from which I obtained quotes and their selection of colors and types of material were expansive. I also purchased the under mount sink to match the counter top coloring and the matching accessories. When I discovered two matching strainer baskets were ordered, instead of one strainer and one flange for the garbage disposal, they quickly refunded me the cost, once I returned it to their office. Definitely be cognitive of the depth of your current sink versus the new under mount sink, if you have a garbage disposal since the electrical of your garbage disposal may need to be rerouted. This is not the company's fault but something I did not think of at the time of purchase. Just so you are aware, it does take approximately 1 month from choosing what you want in the showroom to the final install. This is not an unusual amount of time for this type of project. Just thought some people might like to know this information for planning purposes. I highly recommend The Granite & Marble Depot and would definitely do business with them again! read more

We purchased a granite countertop for our new bathroom vanity from a home improvement center and didn't expect anything but basic service. HUGE surprise. We have never been so impressed with a company as we are with GMD Surfaces. They called to set the measurement appointment. The man came out right on time. Did his work and even took time to answer my questions. Within two weeks GMD called back to set the installation date. Two men came out and within 35 minutes the countertop was installed, grouted, and all debris removed. The countertop is beautiful and sets off the bathroom perfectly. Modena GMD is horrible. While in the showroom, Omar said project would take 2 weeks. 7 weeks later it was complete after they lost our invoice and had to come out and measure twice. I have worked with this business for every granite or quartz install. I caution you now if you consider working with them as I feel their sales staff has gone downhill. This last job which was a big one lacked a ton of communication. I never received a formal bid until after it was installed. Then, I had to call SEVERAL times and many times the phone calls were not returned. There was also miscommunication on their end via email telling me one thing and then stating they couldn't do it after. The installers were wonderful, but the sales team is NOT GOOD. After less than one year and paying $8000.00 for new granite tops I needed 1/4" of my top cut as a service call . You see I bought a new range and it did not fit because the top was a 1/4 " to long. Unfortunately I cannot recommend GMD. The first sign of trouble came early on in in the process when my contact at GMD abruptly quit. I was assigned to to a new salesperson and was assured everything would be OK. When the time came to measure, the person they sent to my home was rude,argumentative and combative. I had to ask him to leave he was so aggressive. As it was near the holidays, I had to wait to speak to the owner Omar. He assured me he would send his best person to measure. The next guy who came out was pleasant ;but he could not understand the online dimensions of my stove and had to come out another time. Omar blamed me and said he would be forced to charge me if they had to measure again. The day finally came when I could look at the stone layout in person. In reviewing the stone layout,I noticed a large chunk of stone filler in one of my pieces. Coleen denied this and tried to convince me it was a part of the natural stone. Luckily ,someone else was there who confirmed it was,indeed,filler. We were able to change the layout;but at this point my confidence was more than shaken ; but I had already given a deposit on my slabs and was stuck. On the day of install, I tried my best to watch everything they were doing. Unfortunately, I did not watch close enough because my faucet hole was drilled too close to the backsplash. I have a clearance so small you cannot even get a q-tip behind it. Although my sink is large, there was easily 1/4 of an inch to have the hole drilled closer. In addition,one of the larger pieces of my stone has a large man-made gash in it. Instead of apologizing and accepting responsibility for these mistakes, I was repeatedly lied to and given excuses. "Your sink is too too large,it's not our fault." "That is a natural variation in the stone. It is not man-made. It is not our fault". Luckily, it is easy to document with photographic evidence which I have included. read more

I purchased over 100 square feet of Quartz and there isn't any seam lines, which other companies told me they need to put seams. I was charged for square footage for a sink cutout on top of being charged hundreds for the labor for the actual cutout. I spoke to the office manager (I believe her name was Nicole) about rectifying the issue, and she very rudely assured me that the owner Omar would give me a call to talk about the situation. A few days passed, no call. I called for a status update and was lied to again. So I visited their office, not once but twice, and was again dealt with rudely and lied to. This company is a sub contractor for cabinets to go . They were tasked to fabricate and install countertop. They sent out there measuring crew which at the time explained that they might have to put a seam at the sink . Which the client and Myself said no seams . There isn't a need for one . This is not a large countertop.They called the customer to tell her they are going to charge an additional 250.00 to have the correct amount of people to install the countertop. Talking to the installers today they always send out two people . So hidden up charge for no apparent reason. Showed up today to install the countertop and looking at the blueprints they had in relation to the actual counter top they were off by and 1/8. To which I was told and 1/8 isn't anything . Though paying 2500.00 for a countertop you figured it would . What happened is it pushes the sink off center of the above cabinet. Their blueprint calls for 45 " in reality it's 45 1/8. The final kill shot and lack of installer quality is they offset the faucet by more then 3/4 . Which in enclosed pictures shows the faucet looking horrible. I was given every excuse possible. The sink was in the way which it isn't . I was told " they offset them all the time " . Yeah he sink being a 60/40 they are all like that. They need 1 1/2" around the edge were clearly they held it 1 13/16 in one spot . They remedy to this is to uninstall take it back to the shop plug the hole and re install. Timeline is 3 weeks . So customer has to wait 3 weeks for them to correct something they had nothing to do with . Paid their hidden fees . This a shame lack of customer support , failure of quality. Buyer beware this company will up charge you and does poor quality. They had to trim stone at the house cause the stove wouldn't fit . Seems as if they are just winging it in the hopes that the consumer won't realize . read more

Klaudia did a great job helping us with our slab and we love our new kitchen counter. Fabian and Jose did a great job installing and Omar called the same day to make sure everything went smooth. Not only did they provide same day service, but Francisco (their secret weapon) can fix anything and he came right out to fix a bit chunk that was chipped out that missed by installers. Francisco did such an amazing job, we couldn't even tell where the missing piece was. It's the after service that is as important as the original install, in my opinion. We have been working on our kitchen renovation since April and were rushing to finish before our son's graduation party (August). We had priced and talked to 4 companies back in May, GMD being one of them. We goofed and didn't follow through with our first choice (based on price as they were about 400-500 less than GMD) and they were unable to do the job in the time frame we needed. We went to GMD on a Sat, explained our situation to Omar and Claudia, and they were able to work us into their schedule. The measuring man, Enis, took his time and did a very thorough job. I called the office and stopped in to see the layout on the granite. I was always treated nicely, got helpful service (Tracy in the office is another one we worked with), and truly love the final look of the granite. My husband (who is VERY picky) says he feels this install is better than most he has seen. I would not hesitate to recommend. read more

My Naperville friend worked with their Aurora location and my Flossmoor friend worked with their Mokena location. Both of their granite kitchen countertops are simply stunning. Then while planning my kitchen remodel my designer recommended none other that The Granite and Marble Depot and had me stop in their showroom in Mokena to view their selection. It was tremendous....literally hundreds of colors of granite to choose from.....so many more than other countertop and kitchen stores. We were given two slabs to choose from and took samples home. We picked one and had the measurements done, We didn't hear back from them and after repeated unreturned phone calls, we were told the slab was too small and that we would need to pick another one. They said a slab was big enough, so we ordered appliances and a new sink to get a phone call the day before they were supposed to be delivered saying she messed up and it won't fit. I just had my kitchen counters replaced with a beautiful white and gray quartz. I have a very challenging schedule and Diane was able to work with me and my crazy timeframe. The pricing was good as well as the products. The installers showed up as scheduled and while installing the countertops they noticed a difference in the coloring of one of the pieces. They immediately called Granite & Marble Depot and sent a picture. They agreed that the colors were not matching enough (I have to say it was close but not perfect). Knowing that I had a very tight schedule with other contractors, they were able to make another piece that was perfect and return that evening to finish the job! I am truly appreciative of that attention to detail as well as customer service. Bravo to this business for caring about the customer and the end result. This seems to be harder to find every day. Before you put your hard earned money down for the Granite and Marble Depot of Mokena, Il. to fabricate and install your granite countertops please be aware that you will be at their mercy from the minute they have your non-refundable down payment! Had I had the chance, I would have dismissed GMD immediately! I have never dealt with such rude, inept, abrasive and dishonest people! Read the GMD contract very closely and change anything beforehand with which you do not agree! I highly suggest that you write in a work completion date with consequences if not fulfilled!!! We dealt with three different salespeople because the company abruptly switched our salesperson contact without our knowledge. Each new salesperson needed to go over the entire order as if it were the first day we walked in to the store. Our installation date was delayed by days and weeks with each new salesperson. Communication was poor at best. No returned calls and email communication unanswered for days. The measurer who came into our home was so combative and abrasive I could not hold a conversation with him! I read on another review site that a customer named Scott actually had to kicked this same measurer out of his home! The last salesperson we dealt with actually instructed us to go home and measure the area ourselves and call her back with the measurements! When we went to finalized the slab layout the measurements were incorrect! Luckily my husband caught the mistake. Although it was highly unusual for the customer to double check home measurements we did as she asked. When we called her with the measurements we took she responded very rudely and actually yelled at us over the phone!!! When we complained to Omar the salesperson called us threatened to postpone our installation date for yet another two weeks! In the contract, it states that GMD will not install countertops unless appliances are in place. I questioned this practice since it is a highly unusual request barring they will be swinging around hundreds of pounds of stone over brand new appliances! The salesperson assured us that GMD would be responsible and replace if they damaged any appliances. The installers were a breath of fresh air! They were respectful and courteous. Unfortunately, they had a mishap and damaged my brand new $1400.00 Kitchaide black stainless steel dishwasher!!! They knew they damaged it! They even apologized for the damage! My husband contacted the salesperson, Colleen to discuss replacement of said appliance. Immediately, Colleen said that the installers told her they actually saw the damage on the dishwasher when they arrived at my home BEFORE they installed the granite! So now we were dealing with either Colleen lying or the installers lying!!! Either way, Colleen's behavior that day with my husband was far from businesslike or apologetic! Colleen actually suggested that my husband was the one being dishonest!!! Well, by the Grace of God I have actual photographic proof that my dishwasher was undamaged as the rolled in the granite piece! Everyone was unaware I had this photo. We allowed Colleen the time and space for her outright rudeness and accusations! When she finished, I informed her of the photographs. We immediately left a voicemail message with the owner, Omar, to inform him of the damaged appliance. We also let him know that he employs rude, dishonest, un-businesslike people at GMD. When we did not receive a return call I sent Omar a text message with the photos. Still no response! Later that night I received a response from Omar he said that it was "too late in the evening for him to deal with this matter!" After three long days with no response from Omar we contacted the BBB. Be aware, Granite and Marble Depot's "A- rating" is not from their Mokena location. The BBB averages in all affiliated stores ratings and posts just one rating for all locations. The Mokena location has the lowest rating according to the BBB personnel. I simply could not, nor would I recommend GMD of Mokena to anyone searching for a respectful, reliable, honest, timely, professional granite and marble fabricator! read more

We are currently remodeling our kitchen and ordered countertops from this company. We were told to call when our cabinets were installed. We did and we're told it would be at least a week before they could come out and measure. Irritating, but it's supposedly the best they can do. Then they call my husband a few days later and say they can schedule us for Wednesday between 9 and 10. I sat at home, missing work, and nobody ever showed up. When my husband called them they denied calling us. He sent the lady a photo of his call log proving that someone from this company had called him. No one in the office would admit to it. They are supposed to be here on Friday. Hopefully they will be here a 8:30 sharp because I've already missed work for no reason. I would appreciate if someone from this company would admit to screwing up and calling my husband because obviously someone did. If I like the finished product I may add another star, but right now I am very unhappy. read more

We received a flyer in the mail from The Granite & Marble Depot featuring granite countertops starting at $35 (sq ft) and decided to check it out. We went to the shop (they had 3 colors at this price) and had them come out to take measurements and give us a price. They also had printed on their flyer "PRICE MATCH GUARANTEE" - which I asked about when we were in the office and met with Omar Chahin (owner). Omar said YES, they will match any price. OK, so we got their price and then got a flyer from Precision Stone with granite at $25 (sq ft), had them come to measure, got written price (which was much lower than Omar at The Granite & Marble Depot). I gave competitor's price to Omar and said "OK, match this price." Omar said he can't afford to match that price (despite his written and verbal guarantee). So, this is consumer fraud, right? Don't bother with Omar and Granite & Marble Depot, call Precision Stone in Schaumburg (312-427-8663) and they will come out with better price. read more
