Had 2 hours to spend at Schilling with my husband a few months ago. I didn't realize getting to Schilling was going to be so steep. Walking or driving towards Schilling is on a hill but Schilling itself is on less severe of an incline. I bring this up because we parked on the main street and walked down. I have some difficulty walking so the hill is top of mind for me. We were starving so opted to go to the pizza restaurant because we couldn't figure out where the snacky spot with cocktails was. We walked into a spot with a sign, but it was dimly lit and we didn't know where to go. In retrospect I wish we'd tried harder to find it because our experience at the pizza spot wasted most of our 2 hours. We sat outside at the pizza spot and were sat at a shared long wooden table with benches. The place was very busy and very filled with screaming children. We ordered beers and a pizza, finished the beers and order additional smaller pours. After seeing pizza served all around us, I asked the waitress where our pizza was and she said, "You didn't order one". She most definitely heard us order it because we watched her write it down and my husband and I commented on the fact she didn't look at him once. She said she'd put it in as a rush, and because we were starving, we agreed. The pizza was good but overall super disappointing situation all around. We then went to the tasting room for a quick pour, bathroom break and beer to go purchase. I'm writing this a few months later and all I recall is the NE style IPAs we bought in cans to go were dated much later than we would have liked, meaning the beer was brewed and canned a couple months prior. I'd expect that at a beer shop but not from the brewery itself. Anyway, I probably wouldn't go back because of the hill, lack of good parking, the space feels tight and kind of like a theme park.

Chicken maple and bacon wood fired pizza

Late review: Another wonderful restaurant in the White mountains region (Littleton, New Hampshire) Must try for their decent selection of beers and wood fired pizzas in the menu. Outside: This restaurant is right next to the banks of Ammonoosuc River. They also do have some seating right next to the river. Cute little hut styled tables in front of the restaurant is perfect for a date night. Inside: Ambiance is pretty & they also do have a bar area inside. I devoured a large Chicken Maple and Bacon pizza. Staff warned me that I'll finish this large pizza if I'm really hungry. Damn, he was right about that. That's what a hike to Mount Washington does to you. lol.

While being a tourist in the area I had included this spot to my list of things to do. German style beer and wood fire pizza?! Sign us up! Since visiting Germany my SO has been a fan of German style beer and he enjoyed the offerings here. He also enjoys a nice Brot and they make a tasty one - according to what I was told. I was here for the wood fire pizza. Nice crust. Chewy and flavorful. The tomato sauce has a healthy amount of garlic. Their house margarita includes roasted tomato and I wasn't sure about that, but they add a sweetness to the pie I hadn't expected. And although they say the pizza's are 'personal size' it was too big for me to eat. Maybe not you, but I was full. Our waitress was very personable and professional. Many people were dining outside in the covered courtyard. We chose to dine inside and had a view of the river. The interior is old wood and rustic decor. A single ladies/family restroom is to the right as you enter the building where you'll find a diaper station. Men's restroom is on the other side of the building. There is a bit of parking on the hill above the building (no fee) but you may have to park further away and walk a bit. There is a handicap parking spot on the hill closet to the building - with a steep hill down (and up again) just fyi.

A trip to Littleton requires a visit to Schilling Brewery. My margarita pizza was excellent as was their Schlomeyer beer to wash it down. Service is always friendly and we prefer to belly up to the bar. Indoor and outdoor dining available. We need to be prepared for their Oktoberfest which one must experience.

Beers Co right by the creek. There are lively views if you are lucky enough to snag them. It's a little confusing where to go as there are two Schilling beer co and one called Mill Street Kitchen. I think they are all connected and the menu looked similar. We found a host stand and got sat in the outdoor picnic tables. Super cute. There were a lot of families, friends and couples. A good mix of the crowd. Hubs got a Sapa a Vietnamese lager. He liked it. Im more of an ale or cider girl. Not much offering there. I got a Stowe Ciser that was DRY. I Didnt care for it. But he said it was ok. I should oay more attention to descriptions. We got 2 pizzas, the loaded and maple bacon chicken. Both were great but we leaned more to the maple bacon chicken. It had a really delicious balance with the bacon, apple and sweet maple. Really good. Overall, great.

My post-hike routine is usually burger and a beer. But day 1 we had an event potluck, and day 2 I was headed back home. So if I wanted my food, I was going to have to put in a little effort. Here's how it went: I stayed in North Woodstock. I hiked in Lincoln. I live in NJ. So to go to Littleton I basically had to go north then drive back south. But baby one thing about me - I'm committed to the bit. So off I went! Plus it gave me an excuse to consume all the beauty that is Franconia - twice. Now, North Woodstock has breweries. But the reviews were meh - and strictly betwixt us - the call of "NH's finest bbq" and brew wasn't doing it. In all my days I ain't never heard NH mentioned with the BBQ greats :/ I'd only been to Littleton once before and that was just to go to Wal-Mart and use the flush facilities of a local hotel - A cabin I rented two years ago for a girls getaway was EXTREMELY rustic much to my companion's horrror lmao. I had no idea Littleton had such a cute and vibrant downtown. Schilling Beer fit right in! Located on Mill St it was a New England covered bridge type beat. There was a sleek taproom and brewery perched on the hill, and the restaurant on the corner. There were copious picnic tables set up outside - many of them shaded under an awning, as well as a covered deck with tables, and a woody restaurant interior with a bar, bar height tables, and booths. I opted to sit outside at a picnic table. The Great: -picnic tables were super sturdy and rooted. Nothing worse than having to play the seesaw game at a cheap table. One person gets up and so does the table lmao. -the menu. Not only did I NOT want NH BBQ from another brewery, I actually came FOR the chicken maple bacon pizza. Let me explain something to you. You can put maple on roadkill and I'll eat it do you hear me?! So a pizza with maple?? I'm in. It was so good. The spinach cut through the richness of the cheese and maple. Unexpected and delightful. I do wish the bacon was crispier though. Next time I'll request that. They also had a Gose on the beer menu. Someone there really understands me and I love that for them. -this is a German inspired restaurant - my German ancestry SIL was back in Chicago loosing her ish when I sent her the menu and beer list. If I wasn't my own DD, I woulda strayed from the sours and gotten a few other things that caught my eye. -you can pay at your table through a QR code. Frankly, I liked this. -Service was great! I love dining alone and this was very enjoyable. The server checked in but was not overbearing. Food was delivered quickly. Yall know how I feel about breweries with food. The food could stand on its own here, as could the beer. Best of both worlds and a new MUST VISIT any time I'm in the area. The area being VT/NH/ME because I will happily drive some miles for this again!

The views were so beautiful, beer was delicious, and the service was great. We didn't try the food, but it looked super delicious. Very spacious area with two tap rooms and all Kinds of seating options. Great merchandise selection and really friendly beer tenders

This place was not what we expected, so we were a bit disappointed in that aspect. My husband wanted to eat here because it has a deck over the river. We went for our anniversary and requested to sit outside. We did. Unfortunately, sitting outside means sharing a picnic table with another party. We ordered drinks. He got a blueberry beer, which was delicious. I am not a beer drinker, but I would drink that! We didnt realize the menu is only pizza. We did not intend to go out for pizza on our anniversary, but here we were and we had drinks. So we ordered the pretzel twist and a pizza. We were not impressed with the pretzel. Its more of a bread topped with salt. I would've liked it better with butter rather than cheese. I thought the pizza was great. Being from New Haven,we don't often get pizza away from home. I thought this was a decent, close to new haven style, pepperoni pizza. It had a bit of char and was crisp and tasty. For a good beer and pizza, this is the spot!

Really cute vibe and great view of the water from the deck! I went with the Alexander pilsner. It was just perfect for the warm weather today- light and refreshing! The bar staff were very nice as well! 10/10 recommend

Loved it here!!! Honestly such a vibe. The staff was sooo friendly, we had to wait like 30 mins for a table but it was so nice bc we sat outside by the fire. The beers were so good and the food was out of this world. I'll def be back!

We tasted one of their beers in Portland - and decided it merited a visit to the mother house. A bonus - great foliage in the white mountains. We began with tasting @ the store & tasting room and then had a short wait for lunch. Staff was fabulous-hosts, servers & tasting room staff. Totally comfy. Pizza was great, as was the beer cheese & pretzel. Dark lager & helles with lunch were yummy. Need a repeat visit!

I am not want to give out five stars, but this tavern was wonderful! Located in Littleton, New Hampshire, right on the river, Schilling Beer Pub was a wonderful find. We actually did not know where we were going, but follow the music right to the front door. This tavern serves pizza, And other woodstove items. A limited menu, but definitely worth a visit! They are known for their microbrews and have a dedicated clientele. This is definitely gonna be a place that we visit every time. We are in Littleton! Our server, Jess, was fabulous, and so were the other people that helped serve our food. Limited seating inside, but we sat out on a porch that was heated, and we could overlook the river while we had our dinner. We stayed there for probably two hours chatting and enjoying the atmosphere of this tavern. This is a definite if you are in Littleton, New Hampshire

Food is average, beer is overrated, and they get rid of great servers. I was there with a black woman and they treated me differently.

Went for lunch a few months ago had an incredible experience with our server and food. Reached out to them about catering for a party more than 6 months away. Additionally I brought back my whole family a few weeks later for dinner. 100% completely different experiences. Food was terrible, server was horrendous, they placed us next to a loud Bluetooth speaker that was for the whole restaurant. I had to switch chairs with my partner because I literally couldn't bear how loud it was I couldn't focus. Fast forward to today. Wrapping up the catering menu for the event coming up and ordered a small take out order for myself while passing through from a hike in Franconia. I've ordered the same thing the 3x I've been there. They called me and told me it's not likely I would be able to get it celiac friendly( when every other time I ordered it, they welcomed it with no hesitation), we spoke briefly and the agreed they likely could. They told me it would be ready soon. I got there 10 minutes later and stood at the check in/host stand for 5 minutes. I was looking down the hall where you could hear all the wait staff in their waitstaff room. I waited to catch someone's eye so I could pick up my order. I almost walked down the hall but decided to be patient. As I was about to walk down or call out because it had been so long of standing and waiting I am greeted by a cloud of vape smoke. A few seconds later a server walked out and caught my eye and looked like they had seen a ghost catching them in the act. I told him I was picking up for myself and he said he would be back with it. Another female server followed them out and I asked hey was the vape smoke and she laughed and said it was. I said huh that's pretty bad, she said nothing. I got my food, asked the first servers name. Left. I emailed the person coordinating the catering and he said that he has been getting on the staff about vaping in public spaces and they claimed it was someone vaping outside across the waitstaff room where the door was open. 100% not the case as I literally watched the smoke exit the room they were all in and the servers walking through it after they knew I was there waving it out the outside door. Do not bring your kids here. What really bothered me was the wait staff lying about it to their boss. On top of that. The steak in the Honolulu bowl tasted absolutely disgusting, like it was old/outdated. This is so unfortunate because it use to be amazing, the staff was incredible and food consistent. You will find 100x more consistency at the Little Grille right down the road.

Seated right away. Good enough atmosphere. It's not Bailiwicks, but good enough... Their bar area is super lively, I like it a lot. They need to keep an eye on that... Waitress was ok. A very loud talker. Food was amazing! I had both their "specials" - the fiddle heads appetizer and the Lamb chops... which were also served with fiddle heads, and a delicious risotto (I didn't realize the lamb was also served with fiddle heads, if I had, I would have tried a different appetizer - but that's my fault because I'm sure she must have mentioned it). Everything was amazing. Lamb was so tender and perfectly flavored. Boyfriend had the hanger steak and duck fat fries and loved it too. Says it's some of the best fries he's had! I'm not much of a dessert person but I like trying stuff at restaurants where I know it will be homemade. I had some whipped cream and butterscotch dessert and it was great - couldn't finish as I was full, but no regrets. We will be back! We've passed through Bethlehem, NH a few of times as we've traveled between Maine and New Hampshire. A couple weeks ago I noticed a glowing little eatery as we hurried west on Route 2 en route to UMass Amherst. I didn't catch the name of the restaurant I'd noticed, but our return l timing worked to stop for dinner in Bethlehem, so as we headed back, Cary scoured Google and Yelp ...and based upon the menus and ambiance, we settled on Cold Mountain Cafe. Turns out this was the spot. Inside was just as welcoming as I'd anticipated. Nothing against small New England towns, ...but IMO you can't EXPECT a well-rounded professional restaurant package when you're in "two-hours-from-anywhere, New Hampshire". And IMHO, sometimes these fresh-movement country places are presented like funky hippy brightly lit hardscaped cafe's with busy chalkboard menus that look like 60's concert posters. Not Cold Mountain Cafe -the music, lighting and decor was perfectly contemporary ...relaxing ...inviting comfortable conversation. The menu and pricing were well thought out, offering an assortment of cultural fare with asian, french, American, East Indian entrees that ranged from smash-burger, pot pie comfort food, to bistro steak and seared scallops. Unexpected additions like bean cake and Indian lamb stew entrees offered a pleasant, funky twist. Entrees ranged from $19 to $38. The two drinks we tried were really great! I had the Brooklyn and Cary had the Espresso Lovers Martini. I think Cary put it perfectly when she said that the Brooklyn was like desert! The espresso martini was notable because it was made with rum, instead of vodka and it used fresh espresso, giving it a luscious Tia Maria feel. Both drinks had a wonderful silky smooth mouth feel. The waitstaff was not uniformed, but in semi-formal server attire with all black garments and waist aprons. The service was friendly, professional and attentive... our waitress brought us some warm crispy tender dinner rolls with garlicky seasoned oil dipping sauce, took our orders at our pace and checked in on us throughout the meal. The mushroom polenta app was great... smooth, creamy and fresh with balanced earthy woodsy and smoky notes. The pea soup was a bit brighter and fresher than I'm used to (growing up in Boston, my mom made the best pea soup ...a more hearty version with pork meat always made in the days following a smoked shoulder meal), but in the New England small town country, farm-fresh motif, we liked the bright, fresh pea flavors... Cary was concerned about what she would order because she was put off by the steak entree's smoked Gouda sauce. So she had the lamb stew, which was a compromise. Me? I'd spent the previous couple of days at a hotel hanging around UMass, which means a lot more carbs than I want... smash burgers, burritos, eggs Bennies... oof! So I definitely was feeling like something light... and decided to be crazy and try the bean cake. Cary's stew was nice. It didn't hit you over the head, but it had balanced signature Indian flavors, and was nicely presented. We're not volume-conscious but both thought it could have had a couple more pieces of lamb. I enjoyed my bean cake -although I don't really have anything to compare it to. The waitress said it was hearty, so I rolled the dice. I'd probably try it again... it flavorful and satisfying. The chèvre and ginger dressing supplied a good level of moisture and flavor notes to the breaded spiced bean and rice patty. I'd add that the plating on a bed of fresh spinach presented a little bit of a challenge as I had to pierce a few baby fresh spinach leafs at a time, then add the bean cake... but it was manageable... The menu changes seasonally, so we're looking forward to checking in on our next pan New England journey.

It was a little confusing upon entering the restaurant as to where we should go (there isn't a host stand or much of an entry way), but we were promptly greeted by both the manager (?) and a server. We did have to wait a few minutes for a table as they were busy and needed to take a moment to set the table, but they explained everything involving the wait. We were sat in the lower room, near the wood stove (!!!!) and just happened to be the only people in that room. The white Christmas lights were still up and gave a really nice comfy vibe to an already cute, cozy little place. The music playing consisted of Ella Fitzgerald, Michael Buble, Frank Sinatra, etc... it was fantastic. Our server (who I'm guessing is one of the proprietors of the Inn) was a VERY friendly, sweet older woman who was just the right amount of chatty. She gave a great description of the nightly specials and explained that the chef prepared everything from scratch daily. The menu is fairly small, but it covers the major bases (steak, chicken, pasta, fish, soup, salad, apps) and the wine list had a pretty good selection. I ordered the stuffed mushrooms - 2 large portobella caps with house made maple-sausage stuffing, cheddar and breadcrumbs. They were delicious! The seasonings in the stuffing and the fresh peppers and onions gave it a really nice flavor. My boyfriend has the soup du jour - corn chowder. This was not an ordinary corn chowder... it was loaded with mirepoix and potatoes, more like a stew than a chowder as it was a lot of the good-bits and less of the "broth." He LOVED it. He's still talking about it 4 days later. For dinner, I had the stuffed haddock with rice pilaf and broccoli. The broccoli was perfectly steamed - bright green with a little crunch left. The rice was fluffy, tender, well-seasoned. The haddock was not served drowned in butter in a casserole, but wrapped around the stuffing with fresh lemons and a light butter over the top. It was so yummy. The boyfriend had the special half-duck roasted with a cranberry-orange glaze. It was not greasy at all, very tender and juicy and cooked perfectly. All the dishes were served with an edible orchid garnish (beautiful and tasty), a slice of kiwi, and a smile. The bread that we got to start was also wonderful - hot rolls with the right crunch on the outside and softness inside. Our server wasn't the fastest, but she was so friendly and she kept our waters filled (which is a task - we drink a lot of water) constantly and was prompt about dropping the check. Now, I work upscale dining and have for years. We are both picky about food, and I'm a stickler for service. As I said, she wasn't the fastest, but we were on vacation and in no rush. Like I also said, she was SO nice and friendly that it trumped the 2 minutes it took to come greet us. I'm sure because it was holiday weekend, they were busy. The upper dining room was full and it didn't seem like they have support staff to bus tables. I felt right at home in this place and the chef was so happy to hear how much we loved our food. We also didn't have to ask for anything (silverware, more water) because she immediately brought whatever was needed without our prompting. I love when servers notice those things. We will go back if we're ever in Littleton again. We had apps, entrees, and wine and spent $81... not too shabby if you consider the freshness, the perfect preparation, the little touches with the garnishes, and the cozy, intimate atmosphere. I just wish we'd had room for dessert!

Quaint and lovely old Inn located in Littleton NH. Our server was very friendly…read more The menu is a nice selection of foods. Ranging from chicken to steak to lobster. Parking is difficult although maybe there is more parking that I did not see since it was a rainy night. I will update this section when I go back. Service was slow This was just our server. She was busy leaning and doing other chores that we waited a long time to order our food it took her so long to get back to us when it was time for desert that we did not bother The other server on the other hand was very efficient and took fantastic care of his clients. They have a special that is 2 dinners and a bottle of wine for $40.00. The items that you can choose from are marked on the menu. It was a good selection. This special is from 4 to 6 pm you may want to make a reservation as they fill up fast We had Lobster an decided to upgrade to the lazy man Lobster. The Lobster was cooked to perfection. It was a good size portion I would guess between 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 lb solid meat. We did not see a wine we wanted from the list but they gave us a choice of either another beverage, salad or desert. My friend chose the salad which was a rather large salad. It was one of the best salads I have seen served. Try thief home made dressing. I opted for the desert which we took with us. I had the Turtle cheesecake. It was not too sweet. A nice size portion and worth going back for more. Even though our service was slow I highly recommend going here. The food is well worth the price. They offer items from $11.95 to $30.00 The owner was quite charming and you can tell that he cares about his clients. The guests that stayed at the Beal House Inn were very happy with their accommodations. We will be back Food. 5 star Service. 3 star. See notes above Atmosphere. 5 stars.
