I would not recommend anyone go to a doctor that cannot submit proper insurance claims and care for their patients properly Good Afternoon Dr. Cygan, I spoke with DentalQuest and Blue Cross Blue Shield regarding my son's referral. I began an appeal because they stated that they did not have enough documentation to approve the referral. Please see the timeline below of what has transpired since our visit in February. Estimated Timeline: We came to your office in February after Noah's dentist at Iroquois Dental stated that he did not have enough room for his wisdom teeth and that the top impacted teeth were coming in at an angle that would not allow for safe eruption. I followed up on the referral 2-3 weeks later and was told BCBS/Dentaquest had not determined coverage. - This was FALSE as no request for service was sent in. I trusted your office and waited again. I followed up with your office again in early April and was told that it was resubmitted and I would receive a call/email back. My son broke his elbow in early April and while following up on a prior authorization for his elbow I was told there was NO REQUEST for wisdom teeth removal on file. I called your office VERY upset since it had been 2 months and nothing was filed with insurance even though I was told on 2 separate occasions that it had been filed and resubmitted. The insurance company called that same day while I was on the phone to make sure you had the right information to file the prior authorization/request for service. Fast Forward - to May 12, 2022, nearly 3 months after we visited I called to find out the status of the claim and your office advised it was denied and that you don't send in appeals. I spent 30 minutes or so on the phone with BCBS community/DentalQuest community to appeal the decision and was told that there wasn't enough documentation provided by Dental Surgeons LTD to make the determination - no notes regarding spacing issues, no notes regarding the angle at which the teeth are coming in and she couldn't find any x rays. X-rays were taken by Iroquois Dental and sent to your office and also taken when he visited in February both sets show there isn't enough room and the angle of the teeth on top is an issue. What they received was "just a very basic request to remove the wisdom teeth with IV Sedation" Your office told me TODAY that 40-60% of your prior authorizations are denied with BCBS community/DentalQuest, I asked while I was requesting the appeal if this is the case with all oral surgeons and she stated "the % of denials is much lower when a doctor submits office notes and x rays explaining the reason for the request" The original Prior Authorization Number is The Appeal Number is I look forward to hearing back from you once the documents are submitted. I remember being so impressed that he asked his new patients to fill out a questionnaire that let him know that dentists were one of my biggest fears. When I had to get a cavity filled with him for the first time, he had such a patient demeanor that put me right at ease. He also didn't rush me at all when it took a little while to give me a novocain shot and fill the cavity. It felt like he had blocked out extra time in his schedule, knowing that I was a nervous patient. I attribute his "chairside manner" to the fact that I have no dental fears any more (at least when I see him!) His dental hygienists are great and very through. The entire staff is extremely nice, and he's truly made this a family business by partnering with his daughter, Dr. Rogers. They are are the only two dentists at this location, so they really get to know every single patient that comes to see them!
