We had a great experience with Dr. Boyer. The office staff is always friendly and helpful, and though I met Dr. Boyer briefly, my husband said he did a great job at making him feel comfortable during his tooth removal. They explained all of the after-care instructions very thoroughly and even called a few days letter to check up on him. There was a bit of confusion with billing and insurance, though. But the receptionist was always helpful and patient with me while getting it all sorted out. Overall both my husband and I would have no problem returning to Dr. Boyer should we ever need to again. read more

I was here decades ago as a teen for a surgery and still remember how traumatic it was. I woke up from the anaesthesia in a full panic attack and they just called my parents in to "deal with it". My sutures came out before they should have and now I have a permanent "flap" in my gums from it. I would never send my enemies here. read more

I choose this provider for wisdom tooth extraction for my daughter because he was in network and cheaper than lots of other dental surgeons. that was a mistake! The office was very spare, but the nursing staff seemed competent. The doctor was a bit blase when we met him and not very professional. The office billing was very primitive. They said that I would not have an estimate of charges before the procedure because they didn't have a fax machine and had to correspond with insurance BY MAIL! The day of the procedure we were at a new location and it also left a lot to be desired. They doctor was efficient, but can I say a bit primitive in his approach to tooth removal (4 impacted teeth)! He saved the teeth for us, but the aftermath was rough! No escort to the car although my daughter was highly medicated, no stitches....she had gaping holes in her mouth, and a long, recover from pain. Rethink it if you are thinking about going there! These guys charge interest on payment plans that the patient is not even aware about. They are not up front with costs and will twist it around by saying they notified you when they didn't or blame it on a policy they clearly don't clarify with their patients. Yesterday I contacted Dr. Boyer's office for an appointment. He was recommended by someone I respect. The woman answering the phone was cold and indifferent. I asked for a earlier date because of pain, it was a flat no. I contacted another oral surgeon, the practice manager was bright and friendly. Her first question was "Do you have pain?" I said " yes" and she responded with an immediate appointment. She really listened when I went over my history and went out of her way to reassure me. I agree with the previous reviews. If I could give Dr. Glenn Scheive a ZERO I would. Before my procedure in Dec 2019, I asked for the medical code that covered my surgery so I could get it pre-approved w/Insurance. They did, but he did not bill under that code and it was then billed as a dental procedure. He also had the nerve, when I called 5 days ahead to make sure all was on schedule, to only mention THEN that I would need to pay him $1300 when I came in. I told him I would give him $500 in good faith and did. He gave me the same BS about hating Cigna and what they pay him as an in-network provider as others have posted. TOO BAD DR SCHEIVE! Not MY problem. You agreed to their payment terms when you became in-network with Cigna. After over a year of trying to work this out, per Cigna he now owes ME money. I have filed a financial complaint w/them against him. I have also called my attorney as he has now threatened me with Collections. AVOID HIM AT ALL COSTS. I will be alerting the BBB and the ADA. His name should be Shyster, not Scheive.***Also, they are NOT open during the hours they post and they do not return calls until they're good and ready, specifically Paula in Billing out of the Bloomingdale office. It was terrible, not even 1 star is worth it. I'm on here to warn you so you don't get a botched wisdom teeth job like me. Besides him strutting in the consultation in shorts there was this mysterious bucket of fluids in the corner. The wisdom teeth got impacted and they were no help. I was in pain for several weeks, then they got infected - WHY? They left some bone from the wisdom teeth still stuck in the wound. This after 3 visits of being in pain they notice it. I did EVERYTHING right in keeping them clean, but this place is a total shit hole. Insurance company called us several times to say "no one is answering the phone, emails or letters we are sending, you may not need to pay anything." Then 8 months later the bill arrives!? Overall office was not clean, they are very unprofessional, staff was rude. Stay away. read more

I was waiting to write this review until my recovery was finished, and I'm happy to say I don't agree with these other reviews. I was given a referral to the Bloomingdale office by my general dentist to get my wisdom teeth removed. They were able to get me in right away and scheduled me for extraction. When I was given the estimate for cost, it wasn't in writing. Just scribbled on my patient folder. Those few days before surgery, I got very anxious about everything. The cost was high (mostly because I have two extra wisdom teeth), I didn't have anything in writing, and the yelp reviews were HORRIBLE. People were referring to Dr. Scheive as Dr. Evil, seriously?! Time wasn't on my side so I decided to get my top four teeth taken out instead of all 6. This would cut the cost and give me an idea if I would want to go back. Everything went as planned on the day of surgery and I felt like I was out for maybe 5 minutes. Dr. Scheive did a great job and the entire procedure took about 20 minutes. I felt great afterwards and my recovery was extremely smooth. I will agree that post-surgery care is a little lax, but I think that is the nurse's responsibility. As much as I liked the nurse, she gives that shpiel multiple times a day and talks very fast (when it comes to post-op care) but that is my first time hearing it. The sheet they give you looks like the same one that they've been using for the 90s so I googled most of the questions I may have had. I went back in a week for my post-op check-up and met with Dr. Boyer. The appt took less than 5 minutes and I was in and out. I will most likely be back here next year to get my bottom two removed. read more

Dr. Boyer was great. I went to him as a friend recommended to get my wisdom teeth removed. I went in for a consultation where we discussed how the procedure would go and reinsured me that it would be pretty easy therefore I opted to not go under. The actual surgery was fast and painless. Dr. Boyer numb me up with a few shots and a little gas. Ten minutes later, once I was numb, he began his procedure and within minutes they were out. I was pretty amazed. Afterwards his assistant explained further care instructions and sent me home with a care package. Just a little advice, do not take painkillers on an empty stomach. I made that mistake and got sick about 10 times. I got this done yesterday and on day two I feel fine. No pain so I'm not taking painkillers and no swelling. Thanks Dr. Boyer! read more

I have had to visit his office twice for extractions and his nurse explained everything to me on both visits and sent me home with all the necessary items to care for tooth. Dr. Scheive is a compassionate, honest and skilled oral surgeon. After reading the other reviews on this site, I would strongly suggest reading through the entire critique of each negative review and look for the actual difficulties each patient experienced. If you are looking for an oral surgeon who believes in the body's ability to HEAL, believes in finding the CORRECT diagnosis (not the most profitable), cares about people and works from his heart, THIS IS YOUR ORAL SURGEON! His front desk staff and nurse are direct, kind and protective of the doctor which indicates they believe in his work. The office is small, but comfortable. The financial expectations were clearly explained to us and reasonably priced. Dr. Scheive saw us on short notice. After receiving a diagnosis from another oral surgeon that neither my wife nor I felt good about, the diagnosis that was given by Dr. Scheive made more sense to us and TURNED OUT TO BE CORRECT after the procedure was performed. Although Dr. Scheive's communication seemed cautious initially, when we started asking questions for clarification, he was honest, direct, experienced and demonstrated passion for his work. The procedure itself was done with care, honesty and compassion. The front desk attendant was kind and efficient. The nurse checked on my wife repeatedly, making sure she had a blanket and was okay and repeated the post-op instructions clearly, with documentation for clarity. My wife felt "like she was in safe hands with her doctor" (which means the world to me) and the procedure turned out better than either of us had imagined. Her recovery has been so easy, it is a little surprising! Right procedure at the right time. I asked Dr. Scheive to clarify the use of the medications prescribed and he clearly knows his medications, his procedures and anesthetics. His knowledge (as with any surgeon) may be difficult to translate in layman's terms, but he is able to translate, so if you have confusion, ask for clarification. My husband had an appointment with Glenn Scheive, DDS. I would give him 0 stars if they would allow it. I was completely mortified by the way my husband and I were treated. My husband was given a consent form to sign without any explanation at all other then read and sign. Any questions my husband had Dr. Scheive would say it's on the form read it. When we wanted something explained he got annoyed and condescending and refused to explain. He just kept saying to read the consent form. I am a registered nurse and no one should ever have a procedure done unless they have all their questions answered and they feel 100% comfortable they understand what is being done. This dentist refused to explain anything and seemed offended when we asked him to but he sure expected my husband to sign a form which clearly states that the Dr explained everything to you and answered all your questions(releasing him from liability). Since of course he did none of that my husband walked. Please do your homework before stepping foot in this office. The only nice part was the blonde lady (I'm sorry I forgot her name) that helped make the appointment and checked us in other then that this place was awful!!!! read more

Dr. Boyer is wonderful! I am writing for my 23 year old daughter who should have done this sooner. She had to get a front tooth pulled a couple of weeks before starting a new career as a Speech Therapist. She is also extremely afraid of needles. Leading up to this appointment she drove me nuts! She was so afraid! It was terrible. She looked at the reviews and he didn't have 5 stars...should we find someone else? Called our local dentist and he reassured us he would rather work with Dr. Boyer than anyone. OH MY GOSH! He is WONDERFUL! She never felt anything with the pulling of the tooth and afterwards was the same. Never had to take the pain pills. She felt 100% better after the pull than leading up to it. My wife went to see Dr. Scheive for the first time today to get wisdom teeth removed. His laughing gas machine was broke. Dr. Scheive held her head down while she was screaming in pain,not giving her enough anesthetic. I confronted Dr. Scheive about the assault he had committed against my wife, and he called the police. When asked to help correct an error with using the wrong credit card, these people were completely unwilling to accept payment with the correct card and issue a credit for the wrong card. How hard can that be? More painful than extracting a tooth? Be careful when they collect payment upfront because they won't give you any consideration after they have your tooth! read more

I don't know what happened to my original post. I posted a long review on the horrible service of Dr. Scheive. I can only hope that Yelp did not take it down. But I'll re-post it to make sure people are never in the hands of this Quack. My daughter had an impacted wisdom and was as swollen as a pumpkin. We called around to try to see an oral surgeon but either they didn't take our insurance or were booked too far ahead. Despite the bad reviews on Dr. Scheive, we were grateful that they could see us the next day. We went in on a Friday and the dental assistant took some Xrays and asked some questions. When she was done, I asked questions about their sterilization since the instuments were already laid out in the open and she kept touching them with her bare hands. She ignored me and acted like she hadn't heard me. I repeated myself and she turned her back to me. I then specifically adressed her and asked if she had not heard my question. She responded sternly that the insturments were sterilized. I told her this was not the answer to my question. I wanted to know the methods and processes since they were left in the open. She stormed out of the room. When Dr. Scheive came in and he proceeded to tell us what we should expect and said he could do the surgery on Monday. I then explained that I thought his Assistant was ticked off and that I hoped this was a practice that was open to answering questions and explaining the process along the way. He said yes, but his demeanor was one of irritation. Because I was desperate for my daughter to get some relief, I ignored these red flags and returned on Monday. The practice was running behind but after about an hour they called us in for the surgery. My daughter was still severelly swollen and in pain so I wanted to pray with her. The same dental assistant rolled her eyes and said something to the effect of "GAWD". I followed her and my daughter and asked why she was so rude. She replied that she was being nice to me and I need to let her do her job. As she strapped my daughter in the chair. I told her that I did not want her to touch my daughter because she seemed pissed off and I didn't want anyone in that state of mind performing a procedure on my daughter. I demanded to speak to Dr. Scheive right away. When he came, I explained the situation and he said, "Ma'am you are in our way. Go and sit down in the waiting area. I don't have time for this!" I immediately unstrapped my daughter from the chair and marched right out of the practice. Upon visiting another surgeon, he wouldn't touch her with a knife until the infection was completely gone. This meant that if I had allowed Dr. Scheive to operate on my daughter with the infection still there, more complications could have developed. We escaped a potential botched job by an uncaring cold butcher named Dr. Scheive! read more

STAY AWAY FROM DR. EVIL. First of all, I was referred to Dr. Boyer, but was given Dr. Scheive. That was mistake number one. Scheive is aloof, uncaring, and a fraud, after our ordeal, my husband and I refer to him as "Dr. Evil." I had 4 impacted wisdom teeth that needed to be removed. I was informed at least three times that they accepted my insurance (a very common medical PPO plan). I called my insurance to make sure they covered impacted teeth under medical (removal of impacted teeth is considered surgery, which is covered under medical insurance), and they stated they did. My mistake was not verifying with my insurance that they were indeed contracted with Dr. Scheive. I am a nurse that works in an office, and I know that we would never inform a patient that we accept their insurance when we in fact do not. Dr. Scheive apparently has no qualms about lying about coverage, because in fact they were NOT contracted with our company, and we ended up with a several thousand dollar bill (that would have been $600 had they been contracted with our company as they said they were) because of it. His x-ray tech/assistant was irritable and mean, and when I complained the IV was burning, she ignored me. I ended up with a phlebitis that lasted for weeks. They do absolutely zero patient teaching. After surgery, I ended up with 4 dry sockets that were diagnosed by my dentist friend. I figured your head was just supposed to feel like it was exploding post-extraction. Also, I now have nerve damage on the left lower side of my mouth. I don't know when there's food on my chin (which, admittedly, is kind of funny), and when anything touches that area, it feels like pins and needles (which isn't so funny). Anyway, I was lied to, not informed or treated appropriately for dry sockets, and left with permanent nerve damage and a huge bill. Seriously, worst medical experience ever. I have had the privilege of working for and being a patient of many excellent physicians, and I was blown away by the horrific experience I had with this man. He is unethical, uncaring, cold, and greedy. Please go elsewhere!!! read more

The visit was good, the teeth came out as planned and I healed nicely. The problem was that the Dr's office told me they took my insurance, but this is very misleading. What they should have said is that they are out of network, but they would file a claim towards my insurance anyway, but it wouldn't be covered as if it were in network. They made me believe that they were in network when they were not. Now I'm in collections over the + $1400. Very deceiving. I went to the Bloomingdale office and will be filing a claim with the BBB. read more

He first collected $400 then told us that rest should cover by insurance if there is overage then he will mail check. instead I got another $320 bill from him for 1 tooth extraction on top of what I paid to him and the money he collected from insurance company. Dr Boyer is AMAZING. Finally a dentist that really cares. I got my wisdom teeth removed and I ended up with two dry sockets. Needless to say the pain was HORRIBLE. I called the dentist at 5 in the morning and he ANSWERED. He opened the office early and gave me medicated gauze which helped soooo much. Complete waste of money!!! I read reviews and still took the chance to see one of the docs for my TMJ issue and I am just shocked with my experience. The office is SO SLOW. They are really bad at tracking payments and receipts. I paid out of pocket for a consultation with Dr. Scheives who did absolutely nothing and addressed none of my concerns. I paid $180 for a quick chit-chat with dr. Shieves who literally talks about himself non stop. I wasn't going to write a review but my gosh, what a waste of time. It's not the money, it was the experience. Thats when I realized the reviews I had read were true. Anyways, he gave me the same medicine a different oral surgeon gave me that I had asked not to be prescribed. I felt like I was the doctor and he was the patient. I wish I would have looked at these reviews prior to seeing Dr. Scheive. I can confirm the comments made by others of him not being thorough with directions post oral surgery and his aloof demeanor. After removing two teeth, in preparation for implants, he provided me with no details on what to expect during the five-six month healing process nor how to reduce infection/keep the area clean. I live in the city, I chose Dr. Scheive's office because his office confirmed that they provide their clients with individualized payment plans, I was specifically told, prior to treatment, "we will work on a quote that works for you". During treatment, I was asked to pay $3500 prior to the continuation of my work. I made him aware of my financial situation (full-time graduate student with a monthly income of $650). I told him I could pay $1500 down with installments of $300/month. He refused and said that the only way he could offer me a payment plan was if I paid $1500 down along with $500/mo - that's about 80% of my monthly income. I am livid. They did not follow through with their word, which I expected from a downtown office but not a small-community knit office located in Lombard - a west suburb of Chicago. I had looked past him never remembering my name or the fact that he had already met with me multiple times for an extended amount of time and their sly tact in having me drive all the way from the city just for an xray, which could have easily been done on the day of surgery - this happened more than once - just to increase his billing appointments and get more money from me and my insurance. I would not recommend Dr. Scheive. I do not feel as a valued customer, as I should given the amount of money they are receiving for my treatment. read more

Don't know how this office is still in business. I had my wisdom teeth taken out here, fist of all I asked to be put all the way under, they did not. I could hear them pulling out my teeth. It sounded like a nail being pulled out of a board with claw hammer. In addition like others they never told me to rinse with salt water so I got very painful dry sockets. This pain went on for weeks. Even many years after the surgery it is still sensitive where they took my teeth out with huge holes and the skin in my mouth hangs down. Greatly disappointing experience and ugly results. I spent $25K having all my teeth fixed and crowned. It was a long awaited, costly and time consuming project. Nonetheless, I was so excited to finally get all my teeth done right, all the same shade, shape, and texture. Everything was going great until I learned that I needed three implants -my top FRONT teeth. A long story made short, after having both Dr. Scheive and Dr. Boyer cut on and work the area - I was told by another oral surgeon that their work looked like they had taken a "chainsaw" to my gums! Their work left me totally discussed and disappointed in my decision to go the them. Big mistake. If you're looking for an oral surgeon that cares about his or hers "cosmetic" work, you DON'T want to go to these guys. Do yourself a favor, find another oral surgeon. read more

I visited the dentist office today for a tooth extraction. The young lady at the front desk was very pleasant and patient. My problem is with Dr. Scheive. He seem to be in such of a hurry to complete the procedure I really didn't feel comfortable in his office. He injected me twice in my gums. I can feel the numbness but was still not comfortable with this procedure. When he began pulling and pulling on the tooth with his instrument, I felt every inch of pain running through my body. I held on tight to the chair until it was over. It lasted for about 3 minutes, the longest 3 minutes of my life. Once the tooth was pulled he made a comment, "You would think I was taking your eye out". I will NEVER visited that office again! He was not a pleasant doctor at all. If you need a tooth extraction, please do not visit this office. It was a nightmare! read more

Had a fantastic experience here with Dr. Boyer. I had a extraction and bone graft done under IV sedation. Everyone treated me with compassion and was very helpful. Dr. Boyer explained everything to me prior to my surgery. I followed the post op instructions exactly as directed. I had no bruising, no swelling and no dry sockets. I didn't even need the pain killers. I hope that I don't need anymore extractions but if I do I wouldn't hesitate to come back here. read more

PLEASE LOOK ELSEWHERE. Dr. Scheive is a rude and arrogant man. When Dr. Scheive walked into the office he was talking in a way as if we were a burden to him. He checked my mouth's lump out (without gloves) and then quickly decided he was going to remove it. He did not even think to give my mom and I a second to discuss if we wanted to get it removed. He knew we did not have good insurance, yet he was so ready to get a large amount of money from us. I did not even open my eyes during the procedure because I decided it would be better to remain ignorant to whether or not Dr. Scheive was wearing gloves. Once the procedure was over, Dr. Scheive walked right out of the operating room without saying good-bye or leaving me in a professional manner. I went in for my check-up after my stitches dissolved and I sat in the waiting room for 55 minutes. These people do not care about any one's time or satisfaction with the experience, ALL THEY WANT IS YOUR MONEY. I strongly encourage you to look into a different doctor who will treat you with more respect and courtesy. read more

I am fully covered by my insurance for 100% expenses, however Dr. Scheive explained that he charges OVER what he is contractually obligated to charge with my insurance company. The point of having insurance is to cover expenses. He is not allowed to inflate his costs. Glenn was absolutely wonderful, he was honest and quick. I had all four wisdom teeth removed today at noon and I've been in almost absolutely no pain since the removal. Let's just say the iv site hurts more than my mouth does. His staff was wonderful and as gently as possible. I'm so glad I went with glenn and his team. You guys were great! read more

I have to agree with the first post. These people are evil and could care less about you being in pain or having complications. I actually was referred to Dr Boyer and based on the other poster hes not much better then Scheive. I went in for my initial consultation and x-ray and the nurse who did the x-ray was very rude and spent the whole time talking about her weekend to the other nurse like I wasn't even there. Once that was over with they were very quick to schedule me for the surgery and I asked that she look to see if my insurance covered me for it and what I would have to pay. She gave me nothing but attitude about this and said she would submit it to my insurance company but I would have to wait 3 weeks on an answer. This seemed kind of weird to me since most doctors offices can tell you how you would be covered or at least if you are covered with your plan. Not here. I went in to have two bottom wisdom teeth pulled out I stressed to the doctor that I wanted the gas so that I would feel out of it but I didn't want to be put under he assured me it would make me feel relaxed and out of it. That was a lie I asked 3 times during the surgery if they were going to give me gas I also told the doctor 3 times during the surgery I was in pain he could care less and yanked my teeth out anyway. I was so freaked out by the whole thing I was sweating white as a ghost and almost passed out. The doctor and nurse just walked out of the room and could care less. I told the nurse I was in pain 3 times and she didn't say a word but hand me an ice pack These people are evil they could care less how you feel. I also got dry socket and had to go back to them to have the holes packed same thing could care less that I was in pain the whole time. Thankfully I only had the bottom done and decided to wait on the top I will def be going to a new doctor for the top. Please look elsewhere they only care about money here nothing else. This is a surgery and you should be cared for during and after the surgery. These people should not be in business!
