This is a big fancy sports store that offers alot to do for families. Take your kids on the indoor ferris wheel, take pictures with a giant bear, hear honest Abe speak, play a bunch of games and just wear them out. As far as the items they stock, you can find most at any store you go to. The prices are semi equal to everywhere else as well, some better some not so much. They have a decent gun section filled with new and used firearms and the accessory section is pretty good. The knife section could use some more love, they do carry some unique blades and have some cheap ones as well. Whatever your sport needs Scheels will have something for you. Extremely impressed with this store. It puts the dicks in Leawood to shame. The workout clothing selection for males and females was extensive. Found the fishing section to be vast. Loved the extensive collection of dog supplies. I can't wait to come back and browse. read more

I'm from out of town so have an outsider's perspective: What is this store besides an underwhelming amusement park wrapped in an over-extended retail wrapper? If you're a serious outdoorsman, then go to Cabela's or BPS. If you're serious about other specialty sporting goods or fan-wear then go support a local retailer with better selection. Nice store to buy your outdoor/fitness necessities. Hunting, grills, camping, toys, local team paraphernalia, a ferris wheel, a giant fish tank, talking presidential robots, a small bowling alley, an indoors playground, and on and on. Best customer service in town by a landslide. Stopped on Christmas Eve for a last minute gift. They were just closed. The manager unlocked the door, invited me in and personally helped me look for a gift when they didn't carry what I came for. She spent 45 minutes helping me. We will never go anywhere else! Absolutely LOVE this place. They have everything you could expect a Dicks, Acacemy, or Bass Pro to have. With the exception of boats, they have more than you would expect any of the stores I listed to have. Staff is much friendlier than competing stores as well. Over promise, over promise, over promise. Way under deliver (or not deliver at all). Went in for Ski boots found some and the salesman was nice but if we would have ordered them i wouldn't have gotten them in time (like he swore I would) so we spoke with a manager and decided to do a ship to store order. Boots came in they were fine, however, a guy by the name of Lee at the customer service desk should NOT have been working the customer service desk to say the LEAST. That then brings me to the ski shop in the back (this is where all the trouble begins) we called the day after purchasing my new skis and bindings to see if they could put them on for me (since they did it out in Utah we figured we would give them a try BAD BAD BAD IDEA) they assured me they would be able to do it for $50 and within 48 hours. Dropped my skis off on Wednesday to have the bindings put on and they was told I should have hem ready to go by Friday. Friday came, Scheels called, they weren't able to put the bindings on my skis because of the type of bindings I had. THEY SAT ON THIS INFORMATION WITH MY GEAR AND NEVER CALLED TO GIVE ME A HEADS UP! I am now missing out on a family day at snow creek (can't find someone else to turn them around that quickly obviously) and oh yeah I leave for Colorado in less than a week.....now I am scrambling to not pay an arm and a leg to get a rush order done on the mountings and not to mention I am missing my family day at snow creek. Thank you Scheels this has been one hell of a customer experience. I will not be returning except for the sole purpose of retrieving my unbound skis. read more

I went to Scheel's yesterday to buy some fitness clothing. I was dreading it bc I've gained so much weight and I'm so very conscientious. I asked an associate named Jen if she could help me. Oh my word. She helped me with leggings, a sports bra and tank. She was patient with me and I just really appreciated her help. As it turns out, she lives a couple of blocks from me. They have an amazing selection of clothing items to wear and have sale racks in a lot of places as well. They have a vast different variety of styles, with casual wear and athletic wear. The store merchandise is fine, but the hundreds of beautiful wild animals which were hunted and stuffed for store display were disturbing. Our family would prefer a store that shows wildlife photographs, than one who kills some of our favorite native, and often rare. wild animals for decorations. My children were literally nauseous after a visit to this store. The beautiful wolves and tiger were particularly upsetting. We had heard about the ferris wheel, but not about the herds of taxidermy animals. It's too bad Sheels didn't leave the animals alive and in the wild for our children's children to see someday. We will never go back. There are other sporting good stores to shop. read more

I guess if you're a breeder and need to figure out a cheap way to entertain your kids for the afternoon, this is the place for you. If you're serious about a sport, game, athletics, etc... Find another place. This is basically a big daycare center. When I could even find someone that worked there, I couldn't find anyone there that could competently answer my questions. I always try to shop local. This place is a joke. Avoid it if possible. They don't have anything that the other stores or online retailer doesn't already have. Fantastic bike service!!! Super helpful, knowledgeable, nice, more convenient hours than a bike shop, and great prices! I couldn't be happier with the service we received at 8:30 pm when other places were already closed. This was an "emergency" for my son, and Scheels helped me be the hero. Well I would like to say that I had a great experience here today but that would not be the case. The two stars are for the two at the customer service desk, for they actually greeted me and asked how they could help. When I got to the area that housed the cold weather face masks I was looking for, I found them. I had questions and there were several associates around. I tried to catch their eyes and even said "excuse me" to a couple of them but to no avail. They were too busy chatting amongst themselves. Now there were other customers that came up after me and they jumped at the chance to help them. I felt like I was in the movie Pretty Woman and no one wanted to help me spend my money. I had jean capris and a t-shirt on. I looked no different than anyone else in my opinion but for some reason, I was invisible. I walked out. I'll take my money elsewhere. We enjoy going to this store. Not only is it great for sporting goods items, but the entertainment for kids is awesome. They have mini bowling, a pretend video game that you can pitch, Ferris wheel, shooting games and a play climb/slide area. My kids love going to this store. They also carry Cubs gear!!! I came in with a budget of $1000 for two kids bikes but was barked at by some man when my 14 year old took about three pedal strokes to check the size/fit. How do you expect to sell a bike if you can't atleast try it a bit? I understand safety but already explained to the kids to just do a quick check. The rudeness in his bark was enough that we will be buying our bikes elsewhere. Customer service is key & he had none nor did he offer to assist or greet us in any way. read more

The view when you fist step inside is like a trip to Disneyland. Tall ceilings, a Ferris wheel, and the largest aquarium I have ever seen. I took my daughters family and they seemed to have a selection of items we all were interested in. This store is about 30 miles from our house so we can't go every week. This store is really fun and the Ferris wheel was great. It's mild so all ages can enjoy it. A home goods area inside a sporting goods store is a fun surprise! I highly recommend a stop for fudge at the cafe! (Caramel pecans are amazing as well!) It was a good way to spend a Friday night with family! read more
