Appointment times have been on schedule. Receptionists have been more than competent and quite pleasant. The ability to complete most new patient paperwork online and in advance of the appointment made my first checkin a breeze. The attention I received was focused and professional. I've said before, in other yelp reviews, when dealing with a medical issue, a doctor's ability to resolve pain or illness is limited by many factors. In reality, the best thing you can hope for is to have people who seem genuinely to care about you as a patient, and thus far, I believe that's the case for KCBJ.

The doctors are the best in the area, and if you have a sports injury, this would be the place to go. They serve quite a few area athletes. The problem, though, is that it then becomes hard to get an appointment. I booked an appointment two weeks out, and even then, I didn't see the doctor I made the appointment with. I saw one of his associates. But it didn't really matter because everybody seemed qualified and on top of their games. It's convenient that they are partnered with the Olathe Medical System, so major scans, like MRI's, are done across the street at the hospital, as are surgeries.

While I was hospitalized at Overland Park Regional Medical Center last year Dr. Adam Kaye did the…read moresurgical procedure to insert a central catheter line (perma-port) to be used as an easy intravenous access site during my upcoming chemo treatments. It's a very quick and simple procedure, but not without some risk because the surgeon needs to be careful that the wires that are part of the apparatus don't actually touch the heart muscle as it's being inserted. In this case everything went fine and there were no problems with the insertion. Approximately a year later the perma-port stopped working properly, and I had completed the chemo treatments, so I had Dr. Kaye remove it at the beginning of April. This was another relatively simple procedure, done at the Overland Park Surgery Center under local anesthesia. It did involve a bit more tugging and pulling than I anticipated, but there was nothing painful about it. My only subsequent concern was that a good-sized lump developed afterwards under the incision that was fairly tender to the touch and looked bruised. Follow-ups with Dr. Kaye (a really nice, cheerful guy, by the way) were reassuring -- sometimes after this kind of procedure where there's a remaining pocket under the skin, where the port had been located, fluid can accumulate during the healing process. There was no infection, the small incision itself has healed nicely, and a month or so later the lump is now considerably smaller as the fluid is being reabsorbed and it's no longer tender. I just saw Dr. Kaye again to check, and he recommended hot compresses on the site to accelerate the shrinking of the remaining lump. That's certainly no big deal to do! I appreciate Dr. Kaye's accessibility and his willingness and ability to explain what was going on, both before the procedure and during the healing process. I've been fortunate to have never had any other surgeries, but that means that I didn't know exactly what to expect at each stage and Dr. Kaye's been good about explaining what I needed to know. Considering this experience, I'd be happy to have Dr. Kaye again as my surgeon if I ever need to have something done, and I can recommend him to others who may need surgery.

This was my first-ever event with even having surgery--much less, a full hip replacement. I found Dr. Kindred to be very affable, informative, personable, communicative and professional in every way. I was kept informed about everything that would be occurring, what to expect and when to expect to visit with the Doctor and introduced to the Nurses from his office that I'd be seeing in the operating theatre. The procedure, PT, and subsequent appointments all went as promised and the Doctor was present through it all. I definitely felt supported and surrounded with whatever care I felt I needed. I checked in for the appointment today, paid my co-pay and waited for a technician to call me. Once I got in the MRI department, I reminded the tech that I have a Spinal Cord Stimulator implanted by Dr. Fotopolis in 2024. I had discussed this with the tech and doctor that saw me in the Urgent Care department. I also recorded it on the intake form that day. The tech told me they don't have the correct MRI machine to do any MRI's on patients with stimulator implants and none of their facilities do and I needed to make an appt. at an independent imaging company. The people I spoke with today at KCOI were very apologetic and I understand mistakes are made. What I am upset about is evidently the doctors at KCOI put in 100's of stimulators each year and are supposedly they are the #1 rated Ortho Hospital in the city, yet they don't choose to buy an imaging machine that is stimulator compatible. He also took the time to understand the full medical history, including a difficult past knee replacement on the other leg that had led to complications. Dr. Peer approached surgery with extraordinary care. He spent nearly four hours performing the knee replacement to ensure precision and safety. The outcome was remarkable--the knee was usable right away, and there has been no post-operative pain. After such a disappointing experience with the first surgeon, working with Dr. Peer was a completely different experience. He listened, cared deeply, and was prepared every step of the way.
