That choice can cost patients thousands of dollars but they can't be bothered even though you have to pay out of pocket. That's not something that someone does who cares about their patients. This is a practice for someone who doesn't have health insurance and wants to risk huge medical bills. But hope that you don't ever need a diagnosis code - to transfer care, to get treatment at a hospital, to go on disability - because our country uses diagnosis codes as the standard of practice, so their lack of interest in spending the time is at the expense of patient well being. Why would anyone pay for a doctor who does not care about their long term well-being or having thousands of dollars out of pocket because the provider doesn't want to learn diagnostic codes?

I appreciate their option to text and email questions whenever and how they don't work with insurance companies. Went back to Leawood family care who had been purchased by Advent. Saw Claudia Wendel, explained the situation I was in needing a new PCP, the Meds I was on, first visit was fine, no problem on everything. Messaged for a med refill to which she replied, I don't prescribe that. I thought that was odd, we discussed all my Meds and "No Problem". A week later I needed a refill on another, messaged and received the same response, I don't prescribe that, and that we discussed this. I reminded her we absolutely did not or I would have looked for another PCP then. I then read the after visit summary she did from that visit and it was like we were not in the same room. Many procedures, checks she claimed to have done, never done and nothing about the meds I was on or refusal to fill. $500 for that waste of time. She then told me to go to urgent care and talk to them. Went to Urgent Care $500 and saw Claire Stinson, very nice, explained previous situation and why I was there and what I was looking for. No problem, she prescribed the meds and we scheduled another visit. Second visit $400 went south. She told me going forward she would only prescribe meds for one of my situations and that I would need to see other doctors for the others. They did refer me to other Advent Dr's. ($500 or $500+ per visit to 6 others). I did schedule another visit with her then. This is where things went weird in this visit. She was going through the usual wellness questions but focused and pressed one line of questioning, which I thought odd. She left the room, said she would be right back. Several minutes later a security guard knocks on the door, comes in asks if I am OK, if I feel OK? I said yes and he left. I thought that odd. After another 30 minutes I stepped into the hallway and saw her by the nurses desk talking on her cell phone, normal happy casual conversation. As I walked up the hall towards her, she had her back facing me, I noticed the back office staff gathered in a big "U" surrounding her, all with horrified looks on their faces. Again, thought that was odd, then one of them slowly pointed at me over Claire's shoulder. I was getting concerned there was something bad behind me. Claire spun around continuing her normal happy casual conversation, points a finger in the air smiles and mouths "one minute". I quietly told her I needed to go because I had another appointment. She nodded and said she would be right there. I went back to the room and waited. I am trying to process what the heck is happening and she comes back in the room. She then wanted me to go to the emergency room and "talk to someone". I told her, still confused, I was not going to do that and that I needed to go. She said "OK" but think about it. Walking down the hall to the exit the staff looked at me like I was a suicide bomber, it was very odd and I was trying to make light of the weirdness. I messaged Claire the next day and told her I had no idea what was going on but it was very humiliating and weird. Waiting for a response I read the after visit summary, I was shocked, humiliated and confused. I asked her if we would be able to continue a PCP relationship without this happening again, she replied, I would not change a thing. I cancelled my other appointment. My takeaway was she has a Hero/Savior complex, presses an issue to fabricate a story where she spins herself into a victim. Why? I have no idea and it didn't benefit anyone. I talked to some of the other Dr's I have met with afterward and they stated something was very wrong on many levels with that visit. Needless to say, I will not be going back to Advent/Leawood Family Care at 7025 College Blvd. OPKS. and don't recommend anyone else do either. It is not what it used to be! With all the Advent Dr's only dealing with one issue I am seriously considering ditching Advent all together as well. I do like some of the other specialists I have seen. That gets Advent the 1 star. Still looking for a PCP.

From the very first visit, I was treated not just as a patient, but as a human being. I especially want to recognize Lynn at reception for always being warm and welcoming. The nurses -- Stacey, Mariam, Kristen, Sarah, and Shelley -- are absolutely exceptional. Each of them has shown genuine compassion, patience, and professionalism. They take the time to listen, explain every step, and make sure I feel comfortable and cared for. I have never once felt rushed or dismissed. Dr. Justensen is knowledgeable, attentive, and truly compassionate. The level of empathy and quality of care this team provides goes beyond medical treatment -- they restore confidence, dignity, and hope during a very vulnerable time. Wound care can be physically and emotionally draining, but this team makes you feel safe, supported, and respected every step of the way. I highly recommend KU's Wound Care to anyone needing specialized, compassionate treatment. You will truly be in the best hands.

Really unsure what her line of questioning was, as the injury was directly related to and happened DURING a high contact sport. It made me wonder if she was even listening. I won't go into the back and forth details of the exam but if I hadn't pressed for direction on treatment or recovery I would have simply gotten an "I don't know and go see your PCP". If my PCP could have gotten me in for an appointment, I wouldn't have been at the urgent care in the first place. The worst part about the experience was the dismissiveness of the student and the lack of professionalism from the overseeing practitioner. She literally walked out of the exam in a fit. Didn't even end the exam just walked out. I wouldn't recommend this urgent care unless you are in desperate need without any other options. The only positives were the facility was clean and both the front desk and nurse were friendly.
