We also purchased a small chocolate caramel cashew bar and a chocolate caramel turtle. This cost 18.64 with an 18% tip added. Unfortunately, the peanut butter gelato didn't taste like anything at all, and the mint chocolate chip was flavorless as well, the small scoop had only 3-4 chocolate chips in it. We decided to try the chocolates. Both the turtle and the caramel cashew bar tasted like wax and left an unpleasant coating inside the mouth. Even the cashews were waxy and tasteless. Although the shop is very pretty and the chocolates LOOK delicious, they are not. Shows you can't judge a book by its cover.... The young lady working behind the counter was pleasant.

While the chocolate looks very delicious and artsy, I did not particularly enjoy the Gelato…read moreoptions. There were a handful of options to go with, but out of the three I tasted: apple, orange, and vanilla, they all had a grainy texture to it. Now usually, Gelato is not as creamy as ice cream, and it is served at a higher temperature than its cousin, in order to maintain that famous elasticity. But this Gelato was a bit flaky/grainy. I imagine it had to do with the tub maybe having melted with the constant opening and closing of the glass, or maybe or it was turned to fast, but it had a sort of ice crystal flake taste/texture to it. The slow-churning technique that makes the majority of difference from Gelato to ice cream just maybe didn't reach the level I was used to (granted I had lived a year in Italy). But unfortunately, the Gelato felt more like ice cream, while the rich flavoring and vibrant coloration was lacking. This is my first time there, and perhaps I just happened to turn up on a slow or bad day. Now, I did not have a chance to get any of the chocolates, but from their looks, I could see myself picking a few up. The gentleman who served us was extremely kind and helpful, and I did feel welcomed. But this review should be acknowledged purely as a reflection on my opinion of the Gelato. It was not horrible, but it left much to be desired. That said, I would not be opposed to swinging by another time I feel the sweet escape. I'll probably venture into the key lime truffle.

Maumee Valley Chocolate and Candy is wonderful…read more We were walking along the riverfront park and I saw a sign that said chocolate, so I walked over here to check it out. This store has so much candy! Lots of retro candy, plenty of foreign candy (multiple flavors of Kit Kats including flavors of chunky kit kats, hi chews and some other Asian candies (a bunch of options, but I can get all of them in Chicago's chinatown so I didn't pay attention), Aero bars, Terry's oranges, and other British candy. There were so many retro candy options, plus every kind of candy you've ever heard of. (I eat too much candy, and know a lot of types of candy and I was blown away by the options). They also had lots of types of pop, but I didn't pay much attention to them. I wanted my sugar in chocolate form. I am a chocoholic, and I was very happy to find this place. I got some creams from the case (dark chocolate raspberry cream, orange cream, strawberry cream, vanilla cream). They were delicious. These are better than my former favorite Fannie May (which sadly isn't as good as it used to be). I also got some chocolates in the bulk chocolate section. The chocolate covered cherries are amazing as is the chocolate covered orange peel (though jellier than I was expecting inside). The chocolate covered pecans are fine (but I don't usually get these so maybe chocolate covered pecans aren't my thing). The store is cute! It had a Lego Willy Wonka set! This place is in a good location. The staff were friendly and helpful.

So we ordered a little bit of everything. We got the chicken salad that I heard was really good. We got the gumbo which was the soup of the week during Mardi Gras time. I got some hot tea. I got some pound cake and some sweet potato pie. Now usually I don't order sweet potato pie from places because I'm almost always disappointed unless it's truly homemade like my grandma used to make. I have to say I was let down by this one. I kept trying to taste more of it to get some more flavor from it but it just was okay. I didn't finish the one slice that I got. The pound cake was okay again. My man loves chicken salad and they give you a nice Hefty portion here but he said it was way too many onions in there and he only ate maybe four or five bites before putting it in the fridge which is where it still is right now. The seafood gumbo was again average. My man says no comment lol but we go to New Orleans a few times a year just to eat. So this was a letdown for me. I didn't have anything great. I heard awesome things about this place. Maybe I'll come back and try the cookies but the desserts I tried here didn't do it for me and I wouldn't go out of my way for them.
