Everything is wrong: -Scenic Tree is NOT Green Oaks. Green Oaks has the gym and pool Scenic Tree does not & no, Scenic Tree residents can't use those amenities. -Paying for resident, visitor, & handicap parking even though there is so much space ($50/ car per year and $2.50 for passes per car per day). -Storage unit is literally a chain link fence that they charge $25/month for and stuff ALWAYS gets damaged/stolen. -Laundry rooms never get cleaned and I do mean never. You also have to go to the office with cash to use the machine to put money on your laundry card. There are times where the machine is down ( no notice) or the washer or dryer is broken (YOU have to download the outside company app when this happens to file a complaint. Scenic Tree/Mathin Reality Services LLC. Will just tell you to call them) yet the prices continue to increase. 1 load is $5.25 -Mold and water damaged hallway walls and storage "room" (they fixed the mold damage in storage unit area but it took at least 6 months of complaints before someone went down and stopped the water that was coming out of the ceiling from a broken pipe. So much was destroyed while waiting though. Bikes, ac units, camping equipment....) -expired fire extinguishers (they've fixed this but it took about 4 months) -unsalted sidewalks in winter while cracked & uneven ones in the summer (hope you don't have a physical disability because you WILL fall) -Exterior doors that don't lock for more then 2 months at a time -Office closes at random times so late fees/car tows happen often. This is place is not a good place to live at all. Management is so bad. Nobody answers your calls or returns them & if they do it's literally days to weeks later. The girl , Rosio or whatever her name may be, she doesn't relay messages to the landlord & screens calls. The washer machines are DISGUSTING and overpriced. Where do I start, I had been complaining and submitting maintenance orders for more than a year about a leak coming from the upstairs apartment. Well on Dec 9th, Water came gushing into my apt closet. It also ran down the hallway, bedroom, kitchen and bathroom. It destroyed my clothing, children's Christmas gifts and other items in the closet. Water ran into my bedroom and onto my kid's bed. The damage was done when the Owner of the above rental was working on the leak. Once the water started gushing in, I called the office and emailed maintenance. No reply to my calls or email, so I notified the police. After close to an hour, the water was finally turned off. No one came to my apartment until 3 day later to get the water out of the carpet. No one has been here to assess the damage to the wall which are sagging due to the water damage and the mold that is in and on subfloor and walls. My apartment smells like mildew. The owner of the apartment who cause the flood reported this to his insurance Allstate, on the 19th but the property manager Matt has yet to send information into the insurance company, so that the apartment that I am renting can be repaired and the mold can be removed. I am afraid for my children to live in these conditions especially my son who is disabled. He has been sick with respiratory issues a lot more since the flood has happened. I am now reporting this to many as entities that I can. I'm sure they will try to put me out after my review but no one should have to live like this. Ever since the management change there has been nothing but problems, I am so glad to move out of this place, "Lisa" is nothing but rude and acts like she knows everything, yet she is the biggest airhead I have ever met. There was a problem with bees getting into our apartment and they were clearly flying around, as a few were flying past her head and she was waving them off she had the audacity to say, " I don't see any bees..." Also our last week there she called us to say you have not paid the past two months, which we have proof of our check numbers on file...horrible organization and management on her part....fail. If I could give this complex zero stars I would. Let me just start off by saying PLEASE spend the extra hundred or so dollars and move into a different apartment complex that is not Scenic Tree Apartments. You will be so grateful that you did. I unfortunately gave this dump the benefit of the doubt after reading all the horrible reviews on here and I regret ever doing so. I lived in one of their 1 bedroom 1 bathroom apartments; totally outdated and disgusting. The paint job was a joke and there were pieces of paper towel still above the cabinets in the kitchen which I noticed right when I walked in. I also had pluming issues the day I moved in. The water in the bathroom sink and tub would not go down the drain and although maintenance was quick to come out and temporarily resolve the issue it become an ongoing problem throughout my stay here. I should've kept all my receipts from the numerous bottles of Draino I had to buy throughout those 12 months. The wall AC unit was installed almost touching the floor rather than high up like the rest of their units. It never circulated and cooled my apartment. When maintenance came out they said the AC was just bad and installed a "new" one. I ended up having the same exact issue and it made my Comed bill be 3x the amount it should be. What kind of apartment complex is that stupid to put an AC unit closer to the ground rather than high up? My neighbors were friendly for the most part. However since Scenic Tree is so cheap that they can't even provide a playground or some sort of area for kids to play, I was left having to hear them run up and down my hallway and stairs constantly. Hotels don't even tolerate that kind of behavior. The management here is a joke. No really, like who hired these people? I've rented from multiple apartments prior to Scenic Tree and this by far is the worst management I have ever had to deal with. These people have no idea what their doing and don't care about their tenants..as you can clearly see from all the negative reviews including mine. Matt and Rocio do not want to take responsibility for anything. They try passing the issue you are trying to get a response on back and forth to each other and the communication is horrible. No one is ever in the office so it's almost impossible to ever speak to a physical person about anything. Overall, just super unprofessional. My last issue with this place is the security deposit. Let me remind you I lived in the apartment for a year and put down a $900 security deposit before I even saw the actual unit I was moving into. I got my reimbursement check a month after moving out and was deducted a $300 "redecorating" charge. I could see if I had been in the apartment for two or three years but there is absolutely no reason to be taking that huge chunk of money out of a deposit for an apartment that was well maintained and had just normal wear and tear. I am waiting to hear back in regards to an itemized and descripted list of what exactly this hundreds of dollars went to. But chances are I will probably get some excuse on why they can't send me it or I'll just never get a reply back. I would honestly be surprised if anyone who ever moves out of this complex gets their full security deposit or even close to it back. Sounds like a HUGE scam to me. Again, save yourself the headaches and find a different complex to move into. Scenic Tree is a legit dump and management is rude, unprofessional, and do not care about their tenants. If you can avoid this place, do so. We've lived here for 2 of the longest years ever and thankfully we're moving out VERY SOON. Last year the office sent this "survey" and we were brutally honest. The woman in charge (Lisa) at the office seriously said to me "Well if you hate living here why don't you move?" Never talked about bettering some of the things I pointed out, just told us to move if we don't like it. I recently posted some pictures of the laundry room (which is in the same building as the office) after it flooded, unfortunately this is not a rare occurrence. Any amount of rain pretty much guarantees flooding in some part of the lower level, including in apartments. The gutters are useless so water goes everywhere when it rains and because there's so many trees in the back of this building, it never truly dries out after raining. Which mean the bugs are outrageous, so many mosquitoes and flies. Also the maintenance team is a bad joke. Our screen door has been busted for 2 years and they still won't replace it. The office people are useless, all the neighbors are rude and noisy (except our neighbors to the right of us, you guys are awesome!) and almost all the parents let their kinds run wild. Our house has been buzzed so many times even after talking with the parents, kids and the office. There's no accountability. Oh and at the beginning of spring they decided that they would BAN ALL GRILLS! WTF??? Oh and getting people to pick up after their dogs is a joke. During winter our upstairs neighbors would throw dog shit down from their balcony and I had to complain over 4 times before the office went and spoke with them. This place is trash and that's how everyone seems to treat it. It's a serious pity because it's in a really good school district and could be a great place to live if the residents and management were decent. TL;DR: If you can live somewhere else, do. The grounds are horribly kept. Limbs falling off dead trees, mowed grass attracting bugs because it is unkempt, dog poop not cleaned up, garbage, etc..... The office will routinely "not find" the work order that you called about. Then will act put out when you request a copy after putting it in again. Get everything in writing! If they tell you anything of importance, make sure you get it in writing. Otherwise you run the risk of them going back on their word, which they will do. Although the walls of the apartments are fairly soundproof, you can hear everything through the ceiling. The residents may just be walking around, but it sounds like a dancing contest. A lot of the residents are nice, but lately many seem to be of the lower character type. Smoking weed in cars, doing other 'adult' things in their cars, etc.... My car was hit twice in the parking lot in the two years I lived there. Both times leaving substantial damage, but the offender did not leave a note. If I could give 0 stars I would. I've had a condo here since the glorious 2007. Every encounter with the association brings back suicidal thoughts. The association is constantly working against you and not for you. Every little thing. From fines, to unreturned deposits to neighbor's, constantly towing cars although there isn't enough cars in all of Palos Hills to fill the parking lots. I must have gotten my own car towed 10 or more times as a resident. Tenants got their car towed today, because no one answers the phone during work hours, for a whole week, tenant went to the office during work hours (after lockdown is lifted) to find it closed. I am emailing and calling with no response whatsoever. All we want to do is to register a new car that the tenant bought, and its impossible to do so without causing massive stress and pain to all the parties involved. I own other units in different HOA's and this is by very very far the worst of them all. In fact other HOA's are a joy to deal with. They also guaranteed giving us back the security deposit and ended up overcharging us when there was little to no damage done to the unit at all. I've lived in 2 different apartments here for the last 3 years. At first it was ok. But as time went on, things have steadily gotten worse. After 2 years in a 2 bedroom, I moved to a 1 bedroom. It was so filthy I had to thoroughly clean it before even moving in. Manager Lisa asked for pictures of the filth to be emailed to her. I sent her several. A year later, August 2015, I'm moving out. I demanded a move out walk through. Lisa said no, I'm sure everything is fine. Lisa now is trying to short my deposit refund by $249. !!! Saying I owe back rent and damages. First of all, I wish I could give no stars. I would never recommend this place to anyone. The apartments are crazy cold starting in early fall, freezing in winter. We had to use the oven to keep warm and we slept in the living room because the bedroom was so cold. I have heard other residents say this as well. There are so many silverfish bugs year round. It's really gross. They're all over the walls. I find like 2 spiders a day. Last year, we had mice or something in the walls and they wouldn't send anyone. I asked them repeatedly to send an exterminator and no one ever came. I think they ignore a lot of the problems that you report. Maybe the mice didn't matter to them, but it was significant to me. They were eating on my walls all night all winter until they decided to move on. It was very disturbing and made it hard to sleep. The grounds are a mess. The sidewalks are so slick. I've fallen hard so many times. They never empty or refill the dog poo stations. They just let it overflow until the garbage is on the lawn. The washers and dryers are not good. They don't clean your clothes well. One washer has been broken for a year. I guess they're never going to fix it. The hallways smell so bad, like mildew and there are cobwebs everywhere. None of the lightbulbs match and the walls are filthy. They painted over problems in the walls that slowly became more apparent as time went on and knobs started falling off cabinets. We have a giant crack in our ceiling from wall to wall now. MOST IMPORTANTLY, the people in the office treat you terribly. They have the worst attitudes and I dread going in there for anything. They're nice when you're signing a lease or paying the rent. If you have any small problem, they treat you like a burden. I've gone into the office to pay rent and heard them being so rude to other renters as well. It's really not right the way that they treat people. They are pretty aggressive when they want you out of their hair. We've lived here two years. If we renew, the want 70 dollars more a month (20 the first year, 50 this second year) than what we originally signed on for in 2013. No way will we pay that for this terrible quality. I'm not really sure where to begin with this review...The biggest problem has to be the management staff. Any time you speak with them they are either rude, act as if you're bothering them or they speak to you as if you are worthless. After 3 long years there I left feeling completely taken advantage of since this was my first renting experience and they used that to their advantage. A few of the things I dealt with are: a leak in the living room ceiling that was never properly fixed for over a year, outdated appliances and bathroom fixtures, a thermostat that always kept my apartment at or above 75-80 degrees all year round, the extremely poor "snow removal" that takes place-- On many, many occasions you are lucky if they shovel/plow/snowblow even 1-2 times during heavy snowfall. Then they let the ice build up on the walkways so bad that it's a danger/hazard to everyone; when you complain their response is to salt the area yourself and you get a small bucket of salt with a cup in the entrance doorway. When winter is over then you get to deal with the flooding & standing water that makes it impossible to even use the sidewalk in certain spots---nothing was ever done about this the entire time I lived there. That standing water resulted in a highly unpleasant smell for spring/summer months. Also, my tiny patio was often used by my upstairs neighbors as a dumping ground for buckets of mop water, beer can/bottles, not to mention the really lovely time someone vomited over the balcony into my potted plants. I never made any formal complaints about my neighbors, which I guess is my fault, but I didn't want any retaliation from them since I heard during a loud, domestic disturbance that I easily overheard, since the building walls are so thin, one night that someone upstairs allegedly had a gun. For the management office having such high standards (or so they pretended they did) often reminding you of the application process fees, credit checks, and their moronic ways of calculating whether or not someone can "afford" to live there they sure allowed lots of sub-standard people to move in. The other reviews I've read here about poor landscaping and upkeep of the grounds, garbage and litter, high amounts of bugs & spiders, the washing machines and driers overcharging and the disgusting smells and conditions of the entry ways, hallways, and laundry areas are all pretty accurate as well. read more

I live in the scenic tree apartments for 3 years a private suburban apartment complex. December 28th 2015 there was a snow and rain storm. Due to the storm the resident parking lot was impossible to park any cars. The spaces were covered in snow, ice, and water. As a result, I had to park in the visitors parking space. When I left for work this morning I saw my car was towed. The apartment complex towed my car although my vehicle is registered. As a result, I had to call off work and pay $172.00 to get my car out of the Lucky towing company parking lot. The property managers did not clean the parking lot or the sidewalks and as a result elderly tenants and handicap tenants are unable to leave their homes due to issues with safety. My lease does not state that I am responsible for any type of snow removal. I complained in-person to the apartment's management asking that they reimburse me for the towing service and the Property Manager simply said no and that the parking lot should have been plowed but did not have an explanation as to why the snow plow company did not come and do the job they were hired for. They denied my request and said that the roads were plowed and passable before 9am. This was a lie and I have photos proving that the roads were un-plowed at 10am. I would like to formally file a complaint against them but I'm not sure who I should contact. I'm not really concerned about the money, I'm more pissed off that they lied to me and won't take my complaint seriously. It is a private complex, there is no street parking. The apartment owns the property/roads and have their own plows to clear the roads. City plows cannot enter the complex. I want to file a complaint about them because they keep lying to me telling me that they cleared the roads. Even my neighbor and her SUV could not leave without getting stuck. I am a resident at Scenic Tree, been here for 1.5 years. I was actually very surprised by the negative comments on yelp so I decided to chime in. I guess its easier to write negative reviews than positive ones? My experience here has been very pleasant. It's not the greatest property in the world but very nice, excellent location and fairly priced. In my limited experience with office staff (primarily during move in process) the people were very friendly and knowledgeable. I have not experienced the same issues as other reviewers. Is there a way I can give zero stars? We have lived here for almost two years now and we cannot wait to leave. Please don't get fooled by their demo apartment. We were shown an apartment with a large kitchen, nice flooring, a dishwasher, and update appliances. Our real unit wasn't even close to that. The coils on the stove were corroded. We mentioned that to them when we moved in and were told that it's our responsibility to change them. Our bathtub is perpetually clogged. We are convinced that our thermostat isn't functional. No matter if it's all the way up, or all the way down, it's always 80 degrees in our apartment. Our windows are open throughout the whole winter. But that can be forgiven, since we don't pay for heat. Snow removal: Absolutely awful. We consider ourselves lucky if our sidewalks get snow blowed and the parking lots get plowed in a timely fashion. We're supposed to salt the walkways ourselves. Most of the walkways are dangerously downhill. I have fallen so many times that I walk in the grass because it won't hurt as much if I do fall. Lawn maintenance: Also absolutely awful. We have called in numerous complaints about the garbage in the parking lot. The ladies in the office have told us, "maintenance is really busy, we'll see if they can get to it." They never get to it. The dog poop stations are also frequently neglected. Bags of dog poop over flow the can, and when the bags haven't been filled, no one picks up dog poop. You really have to watch where you walk. We also have problems with tree branches and bushes being overgrown and blocking the walkways. Again, maintenance said "we'll see if we can get to it". It's been over a year and they still haven't gotten to it. Staff: The people working in the office are quite rude. They're super nice and friendly when you're interested in renting, but once you live there, you become a burden to them and are treated as such. Laundry: if you find yourself living here, I strongly suggest you find a laundromat. The washing machines are disgusting, and barely functional. Sometimes we have to run the washing machines twice to ensure our clothes will be clean. We end up air drying our clothes even after putting them in the dryer. Definitely not worth the $3 per load! Other than a domestic violence dispute next door, the people who live here have been great and super dog friendly. read more

I have been living here for almost two years. The apartment rentals changed ownership sometime in January. Since the change, I have noticed a significant improvement in maintenance, landscaping, snow removal and general quality of this property. As my lease is coming up for renewal again, I looked around to see if there were any other properties locally that were better priced and offered more for my money. There aren't. I am definitely renewing my lease here as I see the improvement being made. I was very surprised to read the negative comments about the office and maintenance as I have never been treated rudely or had any maintenance issues. One star is really wayyyy too good for this place, and that's not an exaggeration, but I had to pick a star to write the review... I feel so blessed to no longer be a tenant here. It's bad enough that it's a spider infested environment, wake up to spiders, they are all in the hallways, which if you're on the bottom floor like I was, smells like mildew, they are all in the laundry room, etc. Spiders, spiders, spiders, big ones!! And that's not even the bad part. Nothing will be appropriately fixed when broken, which is why everything easily breaks, and that's not the worse part... The worst part is MANAGEMENT!!!!!!!!!! They are the absolute worst, LISA AND MATT!!! Whatever problems you have in your unit that are out of your control, like flooding, which they are very aware of because it's an ongoing problem with most units on the bottom floor (just read other reviews), they pretend that you are the FIRST, and refuse to replace anything that is damaged, they refuse to take responsibility for their property #slumlords ... FYI Renters Insurance does not cover if your items are damaged due to continuous wet carpet from flooding because the owners are negligent in fixing the problem... Not to mention that these people, LISA AND MATT, are the most unprofessional people ever!!! Their attitudes and the way they will try to talk down on people is just disgusting... I wish you have below zero rate to give the management in Palos hills office. The manager is the worst person I ever talked to in my life she is so rude and unprofessional she a caused me of Installing a sprayer in the bathroom and caused a leak in the building the fact that sprayer was in there before I moved in and when the maintenance people came in there was some dripping water could be humidity that I never noticed in the bath room. She called yelling and Threatening calling names which was the best fit to her attitude and personality, when I called her unprofessional and I need a professional super visor name to talk to, she said "I'm the head of the show here and no one to talk to but me " I don't know what company she is managing and what kind of company would hire such a manager, or what kind of show she is running....... Please don not get fooled buy these people. read more

If you will act maturely and don't drag around a 'am gon git you back' attitude, you are welcome here. If you dress like a thug, you'll be treated like one. We only want nice people to live here. Your dog is NOT precious to us. If you will be respectful of your neighbors, then come on and live here. There are many ethnic groups and there have been no fights for the 7 years I have lived here. If you are a slob don't move here. If you are pleasant as most people here are, then welcome. You can go for walks around the block which takes about a half hour. Most of the office people are nice and will respond to your questions. There have been no break ins. Christians and muslims live here without any problem. read more

We were lucky to get halfway through our lease without experiencing many issues. But now I am starting to see signs of what so many are complaining about. The flooding of the laundry room is by far the biggest problem. Add to that the fact that the management of the building don't seem to be remotely aware of what is happening in their buildings. The hallway LEADING UP TO THE LAUNDRY ROOM has at least 2 inches of water in it, I can't even say what the laundry room looks like, and I called and no one had any idea that it was happening! It has to take several hours, at least, for an entire hallway to get flooded like that, how could they not be aware?! Especially when they know they have issues with flooding, they should be checking after heavy rains. For what you pay to rent here, it is not surprising there are issues. For the most part, the more you pay the better your apartment, and by extension, the apartment company. I think we have been relatively lucky to have experienced so few issues, and hope we continue to be until it is time to leave, because we will not be resigning again! read more

First impressions are everything! I was looking for another place but unfortunately the GPS routed me to Scenic Tree (it's kind of confusing because their sign and brochure says condos, but they are apartments???). Since I was already there and looking for an apartment, I decided to proceed with a tour...what a big waste of time! The girl in the office was on the phone, so my daughter and I politely waited by the door for her to signal us to come in and have a seat...nope she kept talking...and talking...and then talked some more. It was clear she was speaking to someone who was also inquiring about the apartments. The person on the phone asked a lot of questions and instead of her saying, can I take your number and give you a call back?" She continued to elaborately answer their questions while we stood there waiting. When she finally invited us to sit down she was not friendly, apologetic, or welcoming. She acted like they were renting out a mansion in the Hamptons...she immediately went on and on about how sought after their apartments are and their stringent criteria for qualifying. I'm thinking, where's your visitor card that most apartment communities hand out to potential tenants so they can get to know the prospective tenant and their needs? She didn't make any small talk, i.e where are you from, what made you stop in, this is what we have to offer, do you have any questions etc. Nope, her demeanor was more like she was doing me a favor. I should have known when I pulled up and all of the parking in the front says "office parking" instead of visitor or future tenant. I had to ask if I could see the apartment (as she didn't bring it up.) The model was nice (which most are,) but not anything too spectacular. My initial impression was that if you are not helpful and accommodating to potential tenants, I can't imagine how they treat you once you sign a lease and move in!!! Hi i am living here for 8 years ,(bought it , big mistake ) . 7 years ago i started a little "garden" on my balcony , secure all the pots so it will not fall on my neighbors head , everybody said that it look very beautiful , but apparently this year i received a notice of violation: FLOWERS HANGING OVER BALCONY. So i request a hearing but of course it was IGNORE by the administration , and after 10 days i got another notice about the flowers , but this time they want me to pay fine 25 $ fine . I will like you to know that i have 2400 $ property tax(year 2014) plus 205$ monthly assessment fee , even that i cant have color full balcony because of the stupid rules and regulation . Once the property manager told me : IT IS ALL ABOUT THE BUSINESS , but i dont like to be treat that way , this is my home ! People in the office have no respect to you once i was called a liar , because i lost two parking permits in one year . Overall they treat the people bad , building maintenance is very poor so is the outside On the end i want to ad that we dont have a heat for the past two days , i called twice , they said that is fix but not realy .
