Living here... I wish I can say better but sad to say not. It's really sad to read the comments as they are not lying. I got lucky as I live in a "newer-looking" building. When I moved here I was promised a working pool and safe grounds. I have seen the other buildings compared to mines and it's sad that they do NOT look like the pictures posted on the site or on instagram( which is not updated). The leasing office is the only thing updated. I have had to replace my own faucets, have a mold company test my bathroom for mold due to Poor maintaince prior to me Moving into my unit. The only reason I have a star is because of the school district. I pay $50 per month to park my car due to the still Broken light in the entry that does not come On until 8-9pm a s safety concerns. The intercom does not work (still) and the laundry room dryers have yet to be serviced( after now having a increase in the price and low water pressure) Yet we are still charged amenity fees for no amenity. overall, my only concern regarding this apartment complex is the lack of evidence that shows the pictures displayed on the website. Those pictures are not true and the apartments do not match the pictures facilitated on the website the fees and the price gouging is ridiculous but a lot of us still call this place home. This apartment complex feels like a project in the middle of a very nice community and neighborhood. There's only one way in and one way out which often times feels like a prison. if I could give no stars it would of been my #1 choice!! THIS PLACE !! I WOULDN'T EVEN WANT HOMELESS PEOPLE STAYING!! they give u a tour and I spotted so many things wrong dirty grounds,smelly and dirty hallways. we went into the apartment and old doors and cabinets I asked the lady doing the tour why are some of the cabinets not mat doors? and why is it peeling on top of cabine's like water damaged coming from above said it would be fixed before moving in. sliding balcony door wouldn't lock,stove looked old and knobs looked like they wouldn't be working assured everything would be fixed before moving in. unfortunately My daughter had to move in because close to her job but had to get roommate also. and she would call for maintenance because never hot water. sliding balcony door still wasn't locking, and after a month seems like water was coming from ceiling and top of cabinets still had damage and never was fixed!!! this is the nasty place I have ever seen for this area. seems like not a safe area also u can smell weed all thru the apartment complex and in the parking lot and always trash all over the place outside. read more

During my first visit to tour the community, the girl who guided me was friendly. I walked the leasing office apartment and a one-bedroom unit in the newer building. After seeing the one-bedroom, I realized I preferred a two-bedroom option. I liked the property and felt ready to make the move. However, the girl suggested that I take a second tour to check the current availability before completing my application. I arrived a few minutes early for the second tour, where I found two girls present: the one I had initially toured with and another staff member. The new girl mentioned that she had tried to call me to confirm, but I had no missed calls. What followed was an unprofessional argument between them about who would conduct my tour. This immediately raised a red flag regarding their customer service. The girl from my first tour said she had already shown me the apartments and the others would look the same, despite being the one who encouraged me to return. On this occasion, she seemed disinterested. When I inquired about an apartment that would be available at the end of the month, she pointed me down the hallway. Unfortunately, the apartment had water damage and a moldy smell, it was still under repair. I knew that unit wouldn't be an option because if not fixed properly, it would be a problem for me later. Afterward, I returned to the office to ask about some reviews I had read. I inquired about issues with bugs and rodents, and the girl reassured me that I would be fine in that specific building but mentioned the possibility of being placed on an extermination list, implying a problem in the other buildings. That was a red flag for me. As I was leaving the parking lot, I encountered a current tenant and asked for his opinion. He described the neighborhood as nice but expressed frustration with the management, stating it often takes six months or longer to get maintenance issues resolved. I was grateful for the second tour; if the staff couldn't even manage a simple tour properly, I could only imagine how they handled other responsibilities. read more

If you have ANY choice in the matter... run and find somewhere else to live. The apartments are decent and have tons of space BUT this place doesn't feel safe (not even all doors are locked 24/7 with full key entry) and they have roach problems. There are times we have gone without hot water for an entire day. The other tenants do not take pride in where they live as they use the parking lot and grounds for their daily trash. Inside the buildings tenants use various areas to leave their trash bags instead of taking them outside. They also have unpleasant odors due to urination and feces. Even when they mop, it smells of mildew. The washer and dryer situation is pretty sketchy; definitely need attention along with the grounds all together. I honestly do not know how they get away with all that they do here and someone should step in and shut this place down until standards are met. I will say however, maintenance is very responsive and takes care of what they are able and/or allowed. read more

I have had a good line of communication with the management staff and maintenance they have been nothing but pleasant and nice and quick to respond to my maintenance request but I gave it two stars in this review because the mindset of most of the tenants is low budget, recently I have the worst rodent problem ever to the point the rodents have eaten through over a $100 worth of food so at this point I'm disgusted with my living situation me and my daughter are terrified to turn the lights off afraid that when we turn them back on we would encounter a killer rat ... and the entrance of the building is horrible someone kicked the brick in in the front entrance and I believe that's where all the rodents are coming from I've read alot of the reviews recently and they point fingers at the management staff, now although they may be slightly to blame for some of the issues in my experience it's been more of a tenant problem the tenants in my building (26) are ghetto filthy loud and rude the kids throw trash in the hallways the garbage receptacles outside be empty but they choose to throw the garbage right in front of the garbage receptacles instead of inside and this is my second time living in The Sunset Lake Apartments. My first time residing here was 22 years ago and it was much more pleasant hard working middle class people who collectively work together to keep the property clean and free of rodents roaches bugs and wildlife....the management staff can only do so much they don't live here so it's partly the tenants job to help keep the property clean and I don't see that I just see most of the people who live here destroy it... the tenants are not seeing after their children when sending them out to throw out the trash so they just dispose of it anywhere ( SAD) they are treating us how we act like wild animals why would they care what it looks like when you have tenants who destroy the property and act like savages no....I love my apartment but the outer parts of the building is dilapidated and awful I wish I could just pick it up and move it somewhere else....and I must say Pam Paige and a few other staff members (caint remember their names) have been remarkably nice to me help me through some of my worst times financially and emotionally read more

Worst place to live. I moved in 2 months ago and all I see is a worker smoking weed in the building while on the clock, maintenance is always late on fixing my requests, every time I call the office to vent my complaints I get a bitchy attitude from the front desk girl, Patrice, I believe is her name. When maintenance does come to do fixtures they send the one maintenance person that looks like he is high and constantly smells like liquor. I have needed a stove since I moved in but they do not have any but I always see them dropping off appliances every other day. I see the one worker who is in charge, he said his name is Will, always go in an apartment with the girl from the office and I am sure they are not doing no property work other than each other. If I am paying HIGH RENT, then accommodate my needs rather than take my rent. Their is always trash in the hallways , always holes in the walls, and having my doorbell rang every time by ignorant kids. The one thing that bothers me is that some of the workers are their to get a paycheck and not for the tenants. I want to break my lease but I can't because the roaches and bed bugs need my food to survive. I am at that point where I am going call the State on them for poor living accommodations. read more

This place is beautiful on the outside but very distasteful on the inside. Pissy hallway carpets(dog and human piss), the maintenance request always go unanswered and the police department is so sorry they have no control over these folks. Fighting outside ppl trying to break into folks units and the police don't arrest them this is a very disturbing place to live. Everything In the unit out dated they say you gotta stay here for 7 years to get a upgrade snd you only get to pick one upgrade (kitchen , bathroom or new carpet/vinyl flooring)but who would wanna stay here for 7 years. they pick and choose who they want to give the good units to. Some units have dirty carpet while others have vinyl when you ask for vinyl they say you gotta pay for it but why if y'all gone wait until folks move out remodel the unit then let someone else move in to destroy it anyway because that's all these filthy folks do that they keep lettin move in. One of me neighbors gets high asl in the early hours of the morning off god knows what rides around on a bike with red circles around her eyes like a clown (eye shadow) she accidentally walks up to other ppl balconies mistaking it for her own because she's too high she yells for her husband or whomever to open the balcony so I hear her yelling his name all morning until he let he in. Not only is the inside filthy, but the neighbors are crazy to the point that's it's scary and the police have no control I have video of a girl yelling at the police like she was going to beat up the police lady it's very overwhelming living here read more

I just wanted to inform anybody looking for an apartment to not set yourself up. They always say they have apartments available at good prices. I was set to move in a 2 br on June 30th. Someone called me THE DAY BEFORE MOVE IN to tell my the apartment was not ready. After I paid for the application and admin fee, no one ever contacted me to let me know if I was approved. When I called to ask, they told me they forgot to call me and I'll need to pay my deposit asap or within 24 hours. I paid the $250 deposit and this was only 6 days before move in, so I'm sure they knew the apartment was not ready. I had been in contact with them all month regarding my move in and nobody every mentioned the apartment even needed work done. They just insisted that I pay the application fee and an admin fee, which I did. After I paid the deposit they said rent was going to be due on the move in date, June 30th. To this day, I have not seen the apartment in person. The last thing they told me, after giving me the run around a week after move in, they don't know when the apartment will be ready, maybe 4 or 5 weeks. How could a business be so unprofessional??? I have nowhere to go. I am literally homeless because they waited a day before my move in to tell me I could not come. They did offer another apartment and said I would have to pay more, which was out of my budget. Even though they gave me a set date and everything was advertised like I was going to be able to move in on June 30th, I will not get a refund for the application fee (which had false advertisement), and I will not be getting a refund for the admin fee. They also told me I have to wait 4 weeks for the deposit check to come back to their office, and that's when I can get that back. This was the most inconvenient situation I've ever experienced. No one ever contacted me first, I had to keep calling them for updates. This is SICK! read more

I have a long amount of experience living in these apartments seeing as how my family moved out here in 2005 and have been here ever since. This place is a dump. I would not recommend it. Out dated, no where for childeren to play so they just rip and run through the hall ways, only ONE entrance in and out of the parking lot and beware because heavy rain will flood that area and you will not be able to get in or out. Maintenance is slow to react, you call to get something fixed or put in a ticket and they act as though they don't want to get anything done. My parents have been living here for 10 years but they do not care about loyalty. They had to call corporate to get some things fixed and even that took almost half a year to finally get completed. We thought that living in the main building would mean that they keep it up better....not at all. The main building is disgusting the carpet is disgusting the doorknobs are falling off of the main doors, the halls are always dirty and smell funny. The laundry room always has malfunctioning washers and dryers that they take forever to fix. When I see them giving someone a tour of the main building I want to tell them to take their money and run! Yes the rooms are big. That's it, the rooms are big. You can find big rooms somewhere else. If you are looking for a quality place to live look somewhere else. It's not a place that feels safe and secure. The quality you get is not worth the money you spend and though it's close to a lot of shopping and grocery stores. I wouldn't suggest raising a small child here. The apartments are nice and spacious. You have a wonderful view of the lake. The price is right and the location is very convenient, but it was not a place where I felt safe and by the time I moved out, I could not even get a pizza delivered. A lot of people like to just hang out in front of the entrance and block it and there are a lot of rowdy kids in the area. If I could take the apartment unit itself and move it somewhere else, it would be perfect. These units are bigger than the two complexes next door and when I lived there, they were also cheaper. I have a friend who was the victim of a home invasion. Someone just kicked in her door. The biggest issue is (or was) was safety. Also, they charged for water, which is very unusual for an apartment complex because they divided the costs based on usage in the building. When I was there, you could not grill on your balcony and every holiday, management would go around, writing down the names of residents who were seen grilling and they would get a letter threatening eviction. I am not sure if they accept Section 8 but there were a couple of people I met that lived in public housing before moving to Sunset Lake (not that there is anything wrong with that). If I could give Sunset Lake Apts lesser of a review, I would. Circumstances gave me no other choice at the time I entered into tenancy with them (3 years). They charge you for everything! After 3 years, just before moving, I had a clogged tub drain (in the lease it specifically states NOT to use a drain opener). I did not use a drain opener and called for it to be cleared by maintenance...a $50 charge; so, you are in a catch 22 situation...use a drain opener and they find the residue or damage to the older than me pipes and get charged more than $50 or @$$ up and pay whatever the going rate is for not being hairless. The office staff at the building is friendly enough although they put Miss Helen up front (older lady who is sweet as pie) to keep things calm. The behind the scenes staff (Victoria and Ms. Deneen) are like vultures for lack of a better description. I brought to Ms. Deneen's attention that the $50 clogged drain charge had been entered incorrectly as $70, she agreed that it was an error and added "they won't update it". I would love to have enough fight left in me to battle to the end for my $20 but I don't. Additionally, any after hour emergencies leaves you holding the bag...no one answers or checks message until the next day. Finally, when the management company is aware of known "trap houses" on the property and does nothing, they may as well be selling the weed. I will say that I had one of the better large one bedroom apartments...and that is all that I can say that is nice. My warning to anyone reading this is...if you are not accustomed to a project lifestyle, you do NOT want any parts of Sunset Lake Apartments...signed: lived there 2 years 11 months too long. read more
