AVOID SCE EVENT GROUP / DJ PAUL KNOX AT ALL COSTS! It pains me to write this as we loved all our other vendors, but I would like to ensure that no one else has to experience the disrespect and awful service that we received from SCE Event Group that we received leading up to, on, and after our wedding. Our problems were in three areas: 1. DISRESPECT: Throughout our planning calls, our DJ consistently made gendered comments that made both of us uncomfortable. During our reception, he made sarcastic comments about our choreographed first dance and our parents' and MOH/best man speeches. He also cut me off during my husband's and my's thank you remarks. 2. LACK OF ATTENTION TO DETAIL: When reviewing the songs we sent for our parent's entrance songs, he asked us to differentiate between two very different songs from the artist we sent. Admittedly, it was not in his native language, but all he had to do was listen to the first 5 seconds of each (which had incredibly different intros..) and match the characters in the song title. We didn't think this would be too much for a professional DJ to handle considering recognizing music and beats is a core part of his job? He also the venue name wrong while MCing our reception. 3. DISREGARD OF PLANNING & FEEDBACK: Our biggest issues. We spent a long time before the wedding filling out SCE's client portal detailing exactly what kind of music to play and the vibe we wanted at our wedding. We spent hours planning and reviewing our selections with our DJ (4 different calls ~45 minutes each) and were taken aback at how little of that planning actually surfaced during our reception. Things got off to a bad start when the DJ started our second dance set with a slow dance for our guests to join in- something we explicitly indicated we didn't want as we had widowed relatives that would feel left out. My husband and I separately went up to the DJ to tell him to cut the slow song ASAP, but when we asked, he told each of us "when I'm done with this song". This behavior repeated itself throughout the night as the DJ deviated from the agreed upon musical styles we had requested in our planning. Both my husband and I as well as members of our wedding party went up to DJ Paul Knox to request other songs or tell him to move on, but we were told by him "we'll have time for that later" - we were still getting these comments 45 minutes before the end of our reception. It genuinely felt like we were in a tug-of-war with our DJ to get the music we selected and discussed to be played at our wedding. After the wedding, we had a call with the founder of SCE Event Group (Jason Jani), to express our disappointment with Paul Knox and how it negatively impacted our wedding. During the call Jason seemed apologetic and as we talked about how DJ Paul Knox's performance negatively impacted out day, Jason said that he will check with Paul but that he would "fully refunded us, even if out of my own pocket, if necessary" (his words). When we heard this we were impressed and appreciated a business righting its wrongs. After Jason's conversation with Paul, we got an email from Jason that after review of the playlist and "footage showing an engaged crowd and a full dance floor" (which was probably true because we were trying to make the best of bad situation, with us and our wedding party dragging as many people as they could to the dance floor), he denied offering a full refund, stated that they would only offer a 50% refund with the caveat that we would not share our negative experience anywhere. We decided that we would rather not take the money so we could speak the truth about our truly terrible experience and to hopefully prevent anyone else from having their special day ruined by the indifference we received from SCE Event Group. read more

I am completely blown away by the SCE team (but mostly our amazing DJ, Chris Obando)! From the very beginning of the planning process, the team was warm, professional, and very transparent. One of my favorite things about Chris (there are many), was that he was willing to share his honest feedback about how to structure the night. He truly cared about us and guided us to crafting a perfect experience for our guests. The lighting they brought? INSANE. At one point, one of my guests shared "it looks like you have the northern lights on your ceiling!" The way Chris mixed the music was seamless; he paired songs together perfectly and always kept our guests moving. He was so authentic, and his energy made you want to dance all night long. Seth was hands down the most incredible DJ we could have asked for. After meeting with so many DJ vendors who gave absolutely zero care about what we actually wanted and were only interested in upselling every possible add-on, finding Seth felt like a breath of fresh air. From our very first meeting, he felt less like a vendor and more like extended family. Seth's energy was contagious and immediately put me at ease. He genuinely listened to our vision and took the time to understand what mattered to us. We gave him a musical background that was all over the map, literally everything from country to EDM and he seamlessly wove it all together into the perfect wedding playlist. His read on the room throughout the night was absolutely incredible. We were able to put our complete faith in him, and he delivered beyond our wildest expectations. Beyond Seth's amazing work, I also want to take a moment to thank Jason Jani and the entire SCE staff. We had a small hiccup with our final payment due to the winter storms here in Jersey, and it didn't reach them on time. I was absolutely stressed about it. I always put my reputation first, and not getting payment in on time felt like such a poor reflection on myself and my family. But Jason handled everything directly with my parents when I was unable to, and he went above and beyond to calm my nerves and reassure me that exactly why I had picked them. He never once made me feel badly about the situation, which meant so much to me during an already emotional time. His entire team was so lovely and understanding as we worked through coordinating everything. They have the most stealth dry ice guy on earth. Seriously, I never once saw him move through the room during our first dance, and neither did any of our guests. He was like a ninja, completely invisible yet making absolute magic happen. That level of discretion made the dancing on clouds experience that much more immersive and special. We were able to stay completely in the moment without any distractions. It felt like pure movie magic, and the photos turned out absolutely stunning. It's those little details and that level of professionalism that really set them apart. SCE has earned our loyalty for life. They will be our only choice for DJs at every celebration from here on out. WOW! I WISH I COULD GIVE MORE THAN 5 STARS! It can be hard to know who to trust, but if you want to trust me - I cannot understate how much I recommend SCE and specifically Chris Atwood. One piece of advice I have is to put your dollars behind the PEOPLE that are running your wedding. What's important when picking your wedding DJ? Yes - they gotta bring the party, yes they gotta be professional, but it shouldn't be understated how much they need to be comfortable in chaos and able to pivot with a smile. Wedding days are chaotic despite the best of efforts and true professionals can handle it and are worth every dollar for that peace of mind! Chris went so above and beyond I cannot put into words the impact and extra happiness that he brought to our wedding. My family and friends LOVED his energy and authenticity. He worked SO WELL with my photographers and coordinators - but I truly believe he was running the show! Any moment of doubt it was CHRIS who was at our side making a suggestion or guiding the way. P.S. - I assigned my (now husband) to do the music... and my man always does his homework at the last minute which usually STRESSES ME OUT. SCE Event Group/Jeff Scott Gould made our wedding absolutely perfect!! We had Jeff for cocktail hour, the reception, and then the after party. We added on a saxophone for the reception, lighting, dancing on the clouds, cold sparks, and a photo booth. Jeff kept everyone on the floor all night long, and really delivered the type of music we asked for. We have people coming up to us still telling us how good our DJ was. From our introductory call to the announcement of our last song, DJ Seth Velez (@djsethv) was more than a DJ. He was a calming voice, an experienced planning partner, and an ultimate host. If I could, I'd give 6 stars to Chris "DJ O" Obando and the whole SCE team. My wife found SCE almost 2 years before our wedding and we made sure to book an appointment with Chris ASAP. Immediately after our first meeting, we made sure to book Chris & the SCE team. From the jump, it was clear that Chris' preparation was unmatched. Not only was his work to capture our musical taste and the vibe we wanted for our wedding perfect, he had incredibly valuable insights into how we should structure our reception to capture the party atmosphere we wanted. He kept the dance floor packed the entire night, and dozens of people told me and my wife we had the most fun wedding they ever went to. Right after our wedding, my new sister-in-law booked Chris for her upcoming wedding next year, and I can't wait to party with Chris and the team again! THE BEST WEDDING EVER!!!!! Paul Knox from SCE was our DJ and he dominated our wedding. I have received phone calls and texts every day since our wedding asking us where we found this DJ, and how amazing he was. My wife & I could not agree anymore. The dance floor was packed the entire night. EVERY SINGLE DETAIL was perfect!!! We had many conversations about what we wanted and he brought our vision to life plus so much more. SCE events was amazing to work with. Jason was unbelievable. I was very worried about having a DJ and Jason absolutely crushed it. Everyone at the wedding said how great he was and how he was by far the best DJ they have heard at a wedding. He was professional yet fun. We hired SCE for our wedding and Seth was our DJ and there aren't enough words to say how awesome they all are! The whole team is so great with staying in contact with you throughout the entire planning process. I needed to reschedule our wedding due to COVID-19 and one of their girls named Stephanie was such a sweetheart throughout the entire difficult time. She helped me with rescheduling the wedding date, making sure that Seth was still available for my new date along with getting the details of the wedding correct. She helped me with the details of the photo booth and so many other things as well. Seth was also incredible throughout this entire process. He made sure to keep in touch with me to see if anything changed and when it came to the type of music I gave him an idea of what my fiance and I liked and he was a hit on the wedding night. Everyone couldn't stop talking about how great the music was and how they couldn't stay off of the dance floor. They all made such a stressful experience such a good one considering everything that was going on with COVID.
