We were driving around Dallas trying to figure out where to grab lunch and of course checked out Yelp to see what D Town had to offer, most things had about 4 star reviews and then I stumbled upon Scardello with 4 1/2 stars and was quickly sold on the 1/2 star. There was so much cheese to choose from we didn't know where to begin. The man behind the counter knew everything there is to know about all the cheese. He gave us samples and even let us try the award winning cheese of the year. This just wasn't just eating this was an experience! They sell wine by the bottle at retail price so we weren't overcharged for by the glass. He even helped us pair a wine to go with our cheeses. The list of cheese you eat is listed on the receipt which is cool because I couldn't even remember the cheese I ordered. The staff was great! Very informative, best customer service I have received in a long time he went up and beyond to make sure we were completely satisfied and knowledgeable. The peach chipotle goat cheese was definitely a favorite for me. This cheese comes from a local farmer and drops off new cheese every Thursday morning. I can't wait to try some fresh new flavors. Went for a wine/cheese class for $35 bucks; it was great. Didn't try all the cheeses, but they gave small samplings of so many different types of cheeses. Fell in love with their aged parmasean (even bought a lb before we left). In the shop, they have lots of cute cheese boards, different types of wine, sandwiches, deli meat, even peanut butter and of course lots of different types of cheeses. Have not tried one of their sandwiches yet. Would definitely reccomend one of their classes read more

Scardello is the perfect place for a casual date, mixing expertise, a great selection, and a tame atmosphere. I have been here about half a dozen times now and have been thrilled each time by the level of service and pleasant atmosphere. I'm not knowledge enough about wine or cheese to speak about quality, but from an average Joe's perspective I could not have asked for me. Marco (our server) was able to provide detailed information and suggestions without over doing it on useless details, which is exactly what you want on a first date. Soft music is playing in the background, creating a comfortable environment, and I have yet to have a problem finding seating. We went on a Thursday around 5pm on May 2014. We were greeted by Rich and there were two other workers behind the counter. They had a large display of different types of cheese and they literally had cheeses from all over the world. Rich was telling us that they never know what type of cheeses will arrive and where they are arriving from. Each cheese had its own little sign with the name and a description of where it's from and such. We came in to buy the "best" cheese to make various types of mac & cheese following recipes. Scardello doesn't carry the regular cheese one would find at the supermarket, and Rich was so wonderful in suggesting alternatives. An example was that they did not carry cheddar cheese or mozzarella cheese; so he recommended alternatives...I wish I remembered the name of the different cheeses, but my memory is poor. :( He gave us samples of each of the different cheeses he recommended...I quickly discovered I was NOT fond of bleu cheese and I was coughing up a storm after sampling it! He kindly gave me bread to mask the taste. We only had what the recipe called for in cups and he was able to help convert that into ounces for us. We didn't had enough for the amount of cheese the recipe called for after we grated the cheese. We bought 4-5 different types of cheeses from here and spent about $50. Quite steep, but the mac & cheeses were a success and everyone loved it! I would definitely come back here again to purchase cheese for try different mac & cheese recipes! Amazing cheese shop in the heart of Oak Lawn in Dallas. The folks here are passionate about cheese and carefully select cheeses from small artisanal farmers and cheesemakers from Texas, the US and Europe primarily. They also offer a small but tasty menu of sandwiches and salads. You can also select cheeses for a cheese tray with nuts, fruits, and other accompaniments. A great place for a light lunch or an evening date, they also have cheese pairing events and other events regularly. The day I went there was the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and they had been slammed. The only bread left was pumpernickel - but that still worked. My mom had the Scardello version of a reuben and was very happy (I had a bite and it was delicious). I had the Sweet Italian on the pumpernickel and it worked quite well. The guy making my sandwich added a little extra fig preserve and it balanced with the pumpernickel quite well. I would actually order it again on the pumpernickel I think. My disclaimer on cheese... ironically, I am probably the only person who chooses not to like eat cheese. I am not lactose but I just do not like cheese! My husband signed us up for a Cheese 101 class on a Friday night and it we both really loved the class. It is a great way to learn about cheese, everyone gets their own cheeseboard that has a wide range of cheese starting from soft to hard, from all countries in the world, all tastes/flavors and 2 glasses of wine. The instructors of the class were super knowledgeable not just about the cheese we were eating/the different varieties but also of how each type of cheese is made. Ok, I'm late for the party, but I did show up. Just went for the first time last week for a first date for lunch and it was a good choice. Relatively quiet, great relaxed atmoshere to sit and talk for a couple of hours, have good cheese and bread with English pickles, and then, I was able to buy a small wedge of a cave-aged cheese and a baguette to take to my nephew's housewarming party that night, which, everyone found to be good. Why did I wait so long to get to Scardello's? We walked in and the "cheese enthusiast" greeted us so nicely and asked what we might be interested in. I jumped right in and told him about this incredible triple cream brie I'd had on a wine trip to San Francisco and challenged him to produce something that might just come close. That's when the magic happened. He didn't just come close. HE HAD IT! (Cowgirl Creamery Mt. Tam Brie) I broke into song right then and there. We tasted several other cheeses and left with quite a few new favorites. They even had baguettes from Empire Bakery, chocolates, beers, ciders and wines so you can very easily assemble a nice picnic or impromptu cocktail party. I never thought I would find cheese to be so good and flavorful. I got tickets for one of the cheese 101 classes due to my boyfriend love for cheese and I didnt like cheese at first. Wow, my mind has changed and we had a blast! You try 17 different cheeses, dried fruits, almonds, bread and get 2 glasses of wine. I ate most of the cheeses. My favorite was the pondhopper a goat's milk cheese. I could of ate that all day. After the class you can buy whatever kind of cheese you like. My husband and I participated in one of the classes that the shop had to offer. We were seated at a small table of 2 other couples and enjoyed the quaint but charming atmosphere. The owner of the shop took us though how he got his start as a cheese monger and talked through the purpose of the "Large and Hard" class we were about to experience. In the class he walked us through the tasting of 8 types of cheese and 4 types of wine. All of the samples were unique and seemingly high quality, we learned a lot about the history of each cheese and the wine it should be paired with. Overall we had an excellent experience and would recommend a class to anyone. The shop provides a 10% discount on everything in the store after the class but when the evening ended, my husband and I were all "cheesed" out and opted to leave without making a purchase. I am confident that I will be back to purchase cheese or maybe attend another class with my girlfriends. Great ambiance, very knowledgeable and very friendly staff! You are taken away to a quaint European cheese shop for a moment. I went to try one of their sandwiches. They specialize in cheese, so the sandwich ingredients are minimal to highlight the featured cheese. That is important to remember because there is not much to them. I had the pear and point sandwhich that consisted of two different cheeses, pear, wine, and balsamic vinegar. They blended the flavors very well to compliment the cheese, though I wish there was a little more substance to the sandwhich. I would love to go back here with a group of friends for a wine and cheese night!! I would recommend this as an assumed ideal way to check out this place initially.
