Amateur hour. Nice beds, ok staff, over priced and a little desolate. Trying hard to be worth the cost.

The large lobby left an impression of little intimate atmosphere, and the bar was closed. Room was small, outview was across the building to the next corridor, and there was no coffee in rooms. Fortunately the staff was friendly and breakfast very nice. Take into consideration that my stay was just after the reopening of the society post-covid pandemic.

The staff was mainly swedish (what else to expect in Oslo nowadays) and lacking routines. We ended up with a predefined menu of three courses - and not one of them was satisfactory. Starting with a below average starter with trout, salad and dressing served with days old dry focaccia. Main course was a heavy on salt chicken breast with some kind of tasteless potato sponge. Dessert was a marble sized ice-cream with 3 (!) raspberries. Even though the dinner in total reflected the hotels minimalist style, sad to say they also minimize taste and the overall food experience to a minimum. With that said, if this were also reflected what they charge for this, all would be ok, but this was a expensive and totally bad experience that will not be repeated.

The breakfast was one of the better spreads we experienced in Norway during our 9 day trip. Lots of clean fluffy towels, great water pressure, nice hotel robes (I am a basic B!). Windows opened, thankfully, as they were having a heat wave and there is no A/C here so that was not ideal but at least they provided a fan which did help a bit.

The location couldn't have been better and we had only a short walk for our onward exploration in Norway. It was also close to the MUNCH museum as well as the opera house and very central for using the public transport to get around Oslo. The hotel itself is very up to date and our suite had all the expected amenities from power access to big modern bathroom. One complaint and I've seen this elsewhere in Europe, is your inability to control the temperature in your room. If you want it cooler you have to make a request to the front desk. Our room on the 6th floor was fairly large (by European standards) and was comfortable with a nice view to the train station. Our rate included the lavish breakfast buffet with loads of choices as well as a few made to order items like eggs Benedict and something I've never seen in Europe-bagels! A lovely stay except for the warm and stuffy room. Oddly they keep the hallways and other public spaces cooler. Be sure also to check out the fantastic hip cocktail bar-pier 42-in the lobby. Taking the prices into consideration it can save some $$$ if you cook in your room. The rooms also have a balcony for the smokers and to enjoy the sunset with a view. The staff was great and very attentive and I got caught up chatting with the guy at the reception for 30 minutes when I wanted to check out and leave. Great folks. If you are there in winter and like the outdoors and would like to do what the locals do take T1 to Frognerseteren where you can rent a slay and do some sledding. During the weekends half Oslo is up there. During the week it's quieter. You can also do cross country skiing there or just go for a wander. It's great and you have a nice view over the Oslofjord!

Heated floors in the bathroom. Only drag was no bathtub but oh well. Everything is in excellent condition and well designed. The breakfast was seriously amazing. My coworker and I each had 3 rounds. Not crap quality buffet at all, and a very nice breakfast room to boot. The wifi worked perfectly the whole time I was there. It's close to downtown but a bit out of the main madness and close to the water. It won the best of TripAdvisor in 2012 and I can see why. Am I allowed to say that here? =oP I would definitely recommend staying here!
