Checked out and wanted to wander the city for the day before heading to the hotel. The guy at the front desk that day was awesome! Kept the bags next to the desk and was helpful when it was time to pick them up. Overall - great place to stay if you're in downtown Oslo!

Regardless, Jamie W. and I were favorably impressed, and it set the tone for the rest of our adventure in Norway. Coupled with their attentive service and friendly demeanor, the hotel itself could not be more centrally located in Oslo as it's right across the street from the Oslo Central Station where all the Vy trains converge. Beyond that convenience, it was also within walking distance to most of the city's major attractions since it is right off the primary thoroughfare, Karl Johans gate, which leads up to the Royal Palace. We stayed here not only the first night of our trip but also the last two nights before heading back to the states. We were booked into a Standard Double room which was comfortably furnished with a lot of high-end artsy touches. It was part of our tour package, but the going rate appeared to be around $235 per night. Given how crowded the lobby was at any given time, we were surprised how quiet the room was. Front desk service was always first-rate, and we had our laundry done for a reasonable rate within the day without a hitch. The breakfast buffet on the second floor was quite a massive production as the food selection was overwhelming, but they still managed to have enough seating for the guests' aggressive grazing. If we were ever to return to Oslo - not that remote a possibility after the fact - we would definitely check availability at this four-star hotel first. RELATED - Exploring Norway? At some point both were out and I had to walk up 3 flights. Breakfast buffet was great but times were limited and if you made it you might not find a place to sit or they ran out of things that they didn't replace if you came at the tail end. I would have preferred, as with every other hotel at least to be able to brew my own coffee in my room instead of going downstairs to the lobby to have to buy it. Staff was nice except for one rude man at the reception with a hipster beard.

The breakfast was one of the better spreads we experienced in Norway during our 9 day trip. Lots of clean fluffy towels, great water pressure, nice hotel robes (I am a basic B!). Windows opened, thankfully, as they were having a heat wave and there is no A/C here so that was not ideal but at least they provided a fan which did help a bit.

It was also close to the MUNCH museum as well as the opera house and very central for using the public transport to get around Oslo. The hotel itself is very up to date and our suite had all the expected amenities from power access to big modern bathroom. One complaint and I've seen this elsewhere in Europe, is your inability to control the temperature in your room. If you want it cooler you have to make a request to the front desk. Our room on the 6th floor was fairly large (by European standards) and was comfortable with a nice view to the train station. Our rate included the lavish breakfast buffet with loads of choices as well as a few made to order items like eggs Benedict and something I've never seen in Europe-bagels! A lovely stay except for the warm and stuffy room. Oddly they keep the hallways and other public spaces cooler. Be sure also to check out the fantastic hip cocktail bar-pier 42-in the lobby. The staff is friendly and helpful, and it's a great option for pretty much any downtown stay. I'll return next time I get a chance.
