The cabs in Oslo are very expensive. Really friendly front desk staff! All their good work gets diluted when you have to experience their restaurant staff (except Vivien- who was a sweetheart), restaurant manager and food. if you are a vegetarian, you are screwed. if you are vegan, go somewhere else. I stayed there 6 nights- and looked at the same breakfast buffet and lunch buffet every day. Lunch for 4 days of the conference was exactly the same everyday- no change in menu and not too good (like a Country Buffet with fish). I had dinner one night- ordered gnocchi and Caesar salad- they forgot my salad and then gave the shoulder shrug, and general rudeness for forgetting. oh well! I let the front desk know about this, and the restaurant manager came out swinging aggressively going "hey- do you want to talk?" No apology for their attitude.... I figured it was probably his horrible energy that had let the food be so impacted, and his staff so rude. All Norwegians I met were simply gracious and welcoming. I think they took all the rude people in this country and put them here. Then there was the housekeeping!! 2 nights out of 6, I had to go down to the reception to request them for housekeeping when I returned to my room at 6pm. No one picks up the phone. No floor mats in the bathroom. No room coffee. soaps and shampoos are from wall mounted dispensers.

Now the bad news. Apart from being a clean hotel room in a pleasant location, there is nothing to recommend about this hotel. When I arrived at about noon on a Saturday I wanted to have lunch while I waited for my room to be readied. I was told that the restaurant (there is only 1) was closed. Apparently Norwegians don't eat lunch on Saturdays. On Sunday I went for breakfast and was told that there was no need to sign for my breakfast because it was complimentary. There was a very good reason for that. If the guests had not eaten the food the hotel was serving up there would have been nothing else they could do with it. Even the humanitarian relief societies operating in Yemen and Chad would have rejected it as unfit for human consumption.

Before we headed far north, we stayed a few nights at The Thief in Oslo. Our experience here was so amazing it almost beat out the northern lights! the property is stylish and artsy, our room was GORGEOUS with stunning views, every detail was perfect. The staff was friendly and attentive, from the bartenders to the dining staff. But Juliane, the hospitality manager, really stands out! She was so kind, warm, and sweet. Not only did she give us a guide to the beautiful city, but she also managed to get us a last-minute reservation at an excellent restaurant nearby that originally had no availability. I've stayed in hotels around the world... Do not miss the Thief, it's one of the best stays ever. Thank you so much to Juliane and the rest of the amazing staff here! I can't wait to come back!

It is pricey, but just 10mins stroll to Holmen Centre and a 10min taxi to Asker or Sandvika stations. Breakfast is included and there's a pretty good selection. However, food is just warm and the staff very slow at refilling empty dishes.

Louis, the concierge at the front desk, has been an amazing ambassador of the Thon Hotel brand. He welcomed us with a great smile and friendly disposition, and immediately placed himself at our service. He provided us with valuable information about transportation, the city, things to do in Oslo, Sandvika, and talked to us about other great cities to experience around all Norway. He has been a well of knowledge. The hotel itself is easy to access. It is only minutes away from the Sandvika Train station by Uber. It is also quite comfortable and clean. With a contemporary design the building stands out close to the Oslo waters. Once inside, the lobby is spacious, bright, and beautifully decorated with a magnificent marble sculpture. There's also a restaurant where the early morning breakfast is served, and what a breakfast. It consists of a magnificent buffet including smoked salmon, smoothies, omelets, bacon, sausage, and eggs in various other forms, fresh fruits, pancakes with different delicious jams, and so much more, all cooked in front of you my a magnificent team of chefs. The wait staff is also great. They keep the restaurant and the tables impeccably clean, and keep the coffee flowing. Again, their level of service was impeccable. If I could give the hotel staff 10 stars I would. They made our stay not just comfortable, but magnificent!

The place has the ultra modern feel judging just from the lobby ea. Its wide and open with lots of couches to hang out at. The receptionist are often friendly and will help to the best of their abilities. I got one of the ordinary rooms which i was pretty content with. Theres a nice 45" flat screen TV but theres only 20 channels and 90% of it is in Norwegian. Thank god for the discovery channel which is in english. There is also a small gym that has 2 threadmills a set of dumbells and a bowflex machine. Anything would be good when its really cold outside. Cant really complain about this hotel. The free wifi is pretty fast which helps with all the facetime for your love ones. I would recommend this hotel if you are in Norway.
