I've got this new rule that goes something along the line of "bank holidays are for adventures". Maybe it's Cameron's Britain, maybe it's my permanent wanderlust, but either way this new life tenet lead to me being here, in this very hotel, last weekend. We'd fancied a trip for a while, and so when I suggested Oslo (flights were forty quid return) my pals signed the deal. I mean, I warned them -- this town is for those gold pocket folk, but they didn't care. Neither did I.
Anyway. Cochs. I'll assume it pronounced the same way as its homophone friend in the UK. This place was the most likely candidate we researched, and we did well. It's a grand little place! Grand in the Irish sense, that is, just fine. Not grand as in decadent. It's in rich town (seems like) since we were two seconds from the palace and the houses nearby are just gorgeous.
Checking in was easy peasy -- the lovely chap sorted us out in two seconds and we paid and we went to our room. The Wi-Fi supposedly had lost its integrity (we didn't ask what it had done) but it worked fine for my mate. The room was perfectly adequate. Being a threesome (not in that way, yo, just literally -- although we were asked about that by a rando Norwegian) we had two single beds and an old, tired sofa bed. There was a table, two hobs that you weren't allowed to fry on (weird), a fridge and sink, and a really big bathroom that was essentially a massive wetroom.
Can't remember the name of the guy it was named after, but nice to have his portrait watch me sleep.
The shower was immensely awesome and made me happy every day. Nothing like a good shower, amirite? Yes, I am.
Magnetic key cards make life so easy.
Love the little coffee shop next door and love that it's a wander through that delightful park, with the wonderfully scented blooms come evening, to get "home". If I can ever afford dropping eight quid money bombs every time I want a pint again, I'll defo come back here. Three stars only because it's a bit tired -- if you don't care for the fancies, stay here! Cheap (for Oslo), cheerful, and great location. read more
