This place is a cute little hotel, I thought I'd be staying one night until I found better lodging…read morebut I ended up staying for my entire time in Berlin. The rooms are clearly pretty old, the furniture and the radio built into the bed make that pretty clear but it's clean and well taken care of, the old style of it was personally charming and combined with the relatively cheap prices was what convinced me to stay longer. The main downsides were the lack of AC and that the cold water wasn't regulated well and somehow ran low sometimes. The wifi could also be a little faster. Berlin was cool enough in the summer during my stay that leaving my window open at night was enough to keep the room nice but the first night when I kept the window closed I woke up sweating. If you are looking for a 5 star resort this probably isn't it but if you're looking for something well run, charming and cheap this is it.

It may look like a strange bedsit from the outside but inside is a wonderful clean mish-mash of old elaborate staircases and architecture. I loved this place which was really old fashioned without being grubby or faded. It had this ole style radio build into the headboard of the bed!! The Mrs and I enjoyed listening to German radio while drifting off to sleep. The room was quite big with high ceilings and had ample space for swinging cats. I do remember the doors were a bit tricky to master. There was this trick with swobs and pushing buttons, waiting for lights to come on then twisting. So be prepared for a challenge and leave plenty of time to figure out how to get into your room!! There's a little bar just past the main reception area which was cute and open until 10pm I think. The staff were polite and the breakfast looked Ok, but to be honest the area is perfect for breakfast with a wonderful bakery right next door you'll find it hard to resist.

What can I say but simply a fantastic hotel, my partner and I were very impressed! Usually you pay…read morean average price and expect an average hotel but this hotel was fantastic, very very clean, modern, and the rooms huge, I especially liked the large ultra stylish shower. We would definitely stay there again. The only negatives were that that the door card mechanisms were incredibly temperamental and the kind receptionists had to come to our aid a few times. The location also isn't the best if you like being right in the heart of it all and there are few restaurants in the immediate vicinity, but it is only a 10 minute walk to the nearest metro station so nowhere is far away.

I was visiting Berlin for a few days, and planned to stay with friends, but the night before I was…read moreto arrive I wasn't able to get in touch with them. So I decided to play it safe and book a hotel. I found Lindemann's on hotels.com, and made a booking for the first night. Right afterward, literally within one or two minutes, my friends called me up, and I no longer needed the hotel room. Unfortunately, it turned out that the cancellation policy was such that none of my reservation could be refunded, since it was within 24 hours, even though I had just booked it. So immediately I called up hotels.com, and they said that usually in cases like this the hotel would be reasonable and refund the money, that I should just go ahead and cancel the booking, and that they would get in touch with the hotel. This I did, and later I heard back from hotels.com that the manager at the hotel refused to refund the booking. I have to say that I find this pretty unreasonable: it's not like the hotel lost an opportunity to give that room to someone else during the 20 minutes it took for me to cancel the reservation. Obviously I cannot speak to the quality of the stay, but this interaction makes me seriously doubt the way this hotel treats its customers. I wonder what other ways the management finagles money out of people who choose to stay at this "cheap" hotel.

This is a wonder hotel in a really great location. I stayed here for 6 nights in early June along…read morewith other friends and we all loved the hotel. My room was new, modern and clean with a nice view across the Tiergarten and Fernsehturm in the distance. It had everything I needed. My friends were on the top floor with a balcony facing into the Tiergarten and view of the Victory Column. The location is a very nice area with many Embassies in the immediate area. In addition to being steps away from the park, Cafe am Neuer See was a 5 minute walk and one of the nicest beer gardens you can find anywhere in Germany. One of the main reasons I gave the hotel a 5 star rating was the level of service of the staff at Pestana. With only a few exceptions, they were all top performers. The desk staff was always professional and helpful and the restaurant & bar staff was very good. Their breakfast is very good and we had other meals which we were very impressed with in both quality and taste. It was still Spargelzeit (Asparagus Season) and they had a nice special menu for the period. I ate a number of meals here and it was all good. The bar and lounge was also nice and included outdoor patio seating. They had one TV and were featuring World Cup games. It was never packed but they did have a bit of a crowd. I am sure it would have been different if Germany. The location is also good for transportation options. You have the 100 & 200 buses that run nearby and will take you to the main parts of the city quickly. It is also only a 10 minute walk to the Kurfursten shopping district and Zoo. The Zoo train station is served by a number of U & S-bahn lines as well as a number of buses. The only major negative I experienced during the visit was the pool was closed the entire time. There was some problem that wasn't easily fixed? This was unfortunate as it was a very hot period and would have been a nice part of my visit. However they also had a sauna and steam room along with a very respectable work out room. I was really too busy doing other things to take full advantage but these facilities should serve most people's comfort and needs. I love the city of Berlin and do plan on visiting again. I will definitely look into staying at the Pestana again as my stay was that enjoyable. Therefore, I would highly recommend this hotel and hope your own stay is as enjoyable as mine.

We booked the appartments which they offered on their website;…read morewhich means we were 5 minutes walking from the hotel in a residential apartment house (which was under construction)... As this is the gay area of Berlin the noise level in the house was on party mode. The apartment itself looked okay at first glance, but then we have seen: - dust everywhere - open pack of salt and sticky olive oil in the kitchen - dirty dishes - a huge hole in the wall - sheets that don't cover the whole matress (and it was NOT delicious to see it...) - various leftovers from previous guests. - mold in the shower - open bottles of shampoo and shower gel (no dispensers as in normal hotels) - tv and wifi were available but connection was pretty bad (as the tv quality was bad we thought about Hulu or Netflix but this was not possible as the wifi was way too slow) - the promoted bar where you can buy additional breakfast was closed. The front desk was rather distant (had issues with the language barrier German to English?), and mostly not available. All in all a rather expensive and not well put airbnb in Berlin... Not coming back here (there is a Mercure hotel around the corner which was unfortunately booked out, but pricing is okay there).

I was seeing lots of terrible reviews for this hotel and was very skeptical of going. I was…read moreconvinced by my partner to go because it is in fact a gay hotel and as American tourists we thought "when in Berlin..." As petrified as I was, getting to the hotel was easy and straight down the street from the train station. The keys were easy enough to get from Tom's Bar since we arrived after check-in hours. There isn't really a regular front desk time but we didn't need them after the first day to sign the papers. Based on our experience Ill give it to you straight. Pros: our room was nice, no mold, mildew, dust etc. The bathroom was clean and everything was working properly. Sufficient one room hotel that we could lock and a comfortable bed and didn't have to worry about anyone stealing anything from our room like in a hostel. It's also very easy to get to the train station and there are good food stands that are cheap neat the Platz. The two bars right next door other are nice (especially Tom's if you want to have a good gay time, if you know what I mean) there's a grocery store right across the street that we got snacks and such to keep us fed and get cheap wine for our 7 days here. They came and made our beds every morning and gave us fresh towels. Tom's bar seems like it's one of the only bars that lets you do whatever once you can come inside so there is lots of partying going on. The wifi is good (there's an exception though). Cons: The wifi is super annoying. It's good when it connects but will randomly shut off and then you have to re enter the super long login sequence every 10-15 minutes. Sometimes it says connected for longer, sometimes not. It's good while it's connected though. Based on the few shops and bars we've been to here this seemed to be where the older and leather gays hangout. If that's your thing cool. We're not that but it was still fun! Smells a little like smoke in the hallway but you can't smell it in the room. It's not super far from city center but it's still a trek to take the train anywhere (like 10-30 min) so it's all not within walking distance. Idk if I don't know German plumbing but I can't figure out how to get the water temperature higher. The water slips out the back of the shower since there's no door that was annoying and the blinds are kind of messed up and don't work. But that's no biggie. It didn't ruin our experience at all. Overall I would recommend going here. And since it was far removed from all the tourists it really felt like home and I hade a great time getting to know the locals. I would give this hotel 4.5 stars just because the wifi is so annoying and the water sometimes leaks out the back of the shower. Like is said overall I would recommend coming here if you want to be really immersed in the local culture and not feel like a tourist staying in a touristy hotel. I hope that helps I wish someone would have told me this before coming!
