This place is a cute little hotel, I thought I'd be staying one night until I found better lodging…read morebut I ended up staying for my entire time in Berlin. The rooms are clearly pretty old, the furniture and the radio built into the bed make that pretty clear but it's clean and well taken care of, the old style of it was personally charming and combined with the relatively cheap prices was what convinced me to stay longer. The main downsides were the lack of AC and that the cold water wasn't regulated well and somehow ran low sometimes. The wifi could also be a little faster. Berlin was cool enough in the summer during my stay that leaving my window open at night was enough to keep the room nice but the first night when I kept the window closed I woke up sweating. If you are looking for a 5 star resort this probably isn't it but if you're looking for something well run, charming and cheap this is it.

It may look like a strange bedsit from the outside but inside is a wonderful clean mish-mash of old elaborate staircases and architecture. I loved this place which was really old fashioned without being grubby or faded. It had this ole style radio build into the headboard of the bed!! The Mrs and I enjoyed listening to German radio while drifting off to sleep. The room was quite big with high ceilings and had ample space for swinging cats. I do remember the doors were a bit tricky to master. There was this trick with swobs and pushing buttons, waiting for lights to come on then twisting. So be prepared for a challenge and leave plenty of time to figure out how to get into your room!! There's a little bar just past the main reception area which was cute and open until 10pm I think. The staff were polite and the breakfast looked Ok, but to be honest the area is perfect for breakfast with a wonderful bakery right next door you'll find it hard to resist.

Cool rooms with superheavy sound and break-in proof doors. Workstations in the lobby (not used but top Apple stations). PS: just one concern: a disaster waiting to happen: the bathroom has very e very nice soap and shampoo brand, but they come in glass bottles that have no hard rails and could easily slip and break in midst of taking a shower... pls do something before that happens!!

Dim lights, lots of candles, really fun drinks (and not to mention strong)- coming in the summer would be best as then you can also use the outdoor balcony. There was sooooo much hummus, and not nearly enough pita bread but that was fine. Will absolutely go back but also keep in mind that there was quite a bit of a queue to get inside.

We would definitely stay there again. The only negatives were that that the door card mechanisms were incredibly temperamental and the kind receptionists had to come to our aid a few times. The location also isn't the best if you like being right in the heart of it all and there are few restaurants in the immediate vicinity, but it is only a 10 minute walk to the nearest metro station so nowhere is far away.

So I decided to play it safe and book a hotel. I found Lindemann's on hotels.com, and made a booking for the first night. Right afterward, literally within one or two minutes, my friends called me up, and I no longer needed the hotel room. Unfortunately, it turned out that the cancellation policy was such that none of my reservation could be refunded, since it was within 24 hours, even though I had just booked it. So immediately I called up hotels.com, and they said that usually in cases like this the hotel would be reasonable and refund the money, that I should just go ahead and cancel the booking, and that they would get in touch with the hotel. This I did, and later I heard back from hotels.com that the manager at the hotel refused to refund the booking. I have to say that I find this pretty unreasonable: it's not like the hotel lost an opportunity to give that room to someone else during the 20 minutes it took for me to cancel the reservation. Obviously I cannot speak to the quality of the stay, but this interaction makes me seriously doubt the way this hotel treats its customers. I wonder what other ways the management finagles money out of people who choose to stay at this "cheap" hotel.

My room was new, modern and clean with a nice view across the Tiergarten and Fernsehturm in the distance. It had everything I needed. My friends were on the top floor with a balcony facing into the Tiergarten and view of the Victory Column. The location is a very nice area with many Embassies in the immediate area. In addition to being steps away from the park, Cafe am Neuer See was a 5 minute walk and one of the nicest beer gardens you can find anywhere in Germany. One of the main reasons I gave the hotel a 5 star rating was the level of service of the staff at Pestana. With only a few exceptions, they were all top performers. The desk staff was always professional and helpful and the restaurant & bar staff was very good. Their breakfast is very good and we had other meals which we were very impressed with in both quality and taste. It was still Spargelzeit (Asparagus Season) and they had a nice special menu for the period. I ate a number of meals here and it was all good. The bar and lounge was also nice and included outdoor patio seating. They had one TV and were featuring World Cup games. It was never packed but they did have a bit of a crowd. I am sure it would have been different if Germany. The location is also good for transportation options. You have the 100 & 200 buses that run nearby and will take you to the main parts of the city quickly. It is also only a 10 minute walk to the Kurfursten shopping district and Zoo. The Zoo train station is served by a number of U & S-bahn lines as well as a number of buses. The only major negative I experienced during the visit was the pool was closed the entire time. There was some problem that wasn't easily fixed? This was unfortunate as it was a very hot period and would have been a nice part of my visit. However they also had a sauna and steam room along with a very respectable work out room. I was really too busy doing other things to take full advantage but these facilities should serve most people's comfort and needs. I love the city of Berlin and do plan on visiting again. I will definitely look into staying at the Pestana again as my stay was that enjoyable. Therefore, I would highly recommend this hotel and hope your own stay is as enjoyable as mine.

As this is the gay area of Berlin the noise level in the house was on party mode. The apartment itself looked okay at first glance, but then we have seen: - dust everywhere - open pack of salt and sticky olive oil in the kitchen - dirty dishes - a huge hole in the wall - sheets that don't cover the whole matress (and it was NOT delicious to see it...) - various leftovers from previous guests. - mold in the shower - open bottles of shampoo and shower gel (no dispensers as in normal hotels) - tv and wifi were available but connection was pretty bad (as the tv quality was bad we thought about Hulu or Netflix but this was not possible as the wifi was way too slow) - the promoted bar where you can buy additional breakfast was closed. The front desk was rather distant (had issues with the language barrier German to English?), and mostly not available. All in all a rather expensive and not well put airbnb in Berlin... So what did I find? Location: at quiet end of Ku'damm, very close to Halensee S-Bahn station (Ring line) and Ku'damm bus routes, easy walking distance to Westkreuz (RE/S-Bahn) Style: Nicely renovated mansion house in quiet residential street Dining: Affiliated with nearby "Nordwind" neighbourhood restaurant - good authentic German food, well priced Facilities: Relatively modern, with flat-panel TV (albeit small) and WiFi (albeit payable) But ... for me the expectations from regular use of big, chain hotels left this one lacking: - No air conditioning (not a problem in October, but with 10C ambient the bedroom was 19C with NO heating, so suspect summer may be challenging) - Uses old fashioned keys they like you to leave at reception - 1st time I've encountered a throwback like this for several years. I had a bad feeling about this, and when returning lat-ish from drinks with colleagues, the front door was locked (most keycard based establishments can open the door on the keycard), and the problem is exacerbated by its small size meaning there was a single night duty person who took a long time to respond to the night bell Conclusion: Probably works OK in winter if you don't go out in the evening. On the other hand, the niggles from its obsolescent view of some technical facilities will simply irritate the regular business travel who just expects "things to work"

I was able to check in early and I had a nice corner room facing the back (a parking lot and a green space owned by the hotel, but, glad it wasn't the street). They have a decent continental breakfast in the morning which is often packed with guests. The TV has two English speaking channels and some cartoons that were in English (though I wasn't watching them). A friend ended up joining me for the duration of my trip and I found myself "stealing" extra cups and towels from the housekeeping cart, as they only give you one of everything if you are booked for one person. My biggest complaint about German bedding is the weird "small" duvet that they use for the beds. I barely covered my feet and my friends! They do have a nice bar downstairs with reasonably priced cocktails. Keeping in the tradition of German service, the waitstaff leaves much to be desired personality wise. During the EuroCup they turned all the TV's to the game and guests from around the world watched the games. WIFI is spotty.
