I would not recommend this place. Based on my experience, I felt like the focus was more on getting paid than on the quality of the final result. I had SMP done for both my scalp and FUT scar camouflage about eight years ago at the Maryland office. I wasn't happy with the results even back then. The pigmentation around my scar looked noticeably darker and unnatural compared with the surrounding area. When I raised my concerns, I was basically told that my scars were bad and this was the best that could be done. A few years later, after moving to the West Coast, I went to several SMP artists in both Las Vegas and Los Angeles for consultations about a touch-up and whether the scar camouflage could be corrected. Almost every artist I consulted told me the scar camouflage had not been done properly. Some specifically told me the technique looked rushed and that the pigment used did not appear appropriate for scar camouflage. There were other issues as well. My hairline was uneven and asymmetric, and there were areas around the crown and sides that seemed to have been missed entirely. For years I thought maybe this was simply the best result possible, but after getting opinions from multiple other SMP professionals, I no longer believe that. I originally chose this provider partly because of the large number of extremely positive online reviews. At one point, I remember seeing more than 600 five-star Google reviews. I later became skeptical about how representative those reviews were, and I noticed that the Google review presence I had relied on was no longer there. I'm sharing my experience so others do their research, get consultations from multiple SMP artists, and specifically ask to see healed examples of FUT scar camouflage before committing. read more

Review for The Art of SMP by Chris Herrera, Kensington, MD From a woman with alopecia I've had alopecia for a few years now, and after trying different wigs, fibers, concealers, even seeing dermatologists, nothing gave me the kind of confidence boost I was hoping for. I finally decided to try scalp micropigmentation (SMP) with Chris Herrera at The Art of SMP in Kensington, MD -- and I'm so glad I did! Kindness, Respect & Comfort From the first consultation, Chris and his team made me feel seen & heard. They listened to my concerns (uneven patches, sensitive scalp, what my "look" goals were) without rushing me. The environment is professional but warm. Staff were gentle and respectful. Because of the patchiness I had, I was anxious but Chris guided me through what realistic expectations are, and didn't overpromise. They reassured me about pain, healing, colour matching, which helped a lot. They know how emotionally heavy hair loss is, especially for women, and they treated it not just like a cosmetic fix but something that matters deeply. The price point is perfect, Given the durability of the work (touch‑ups needed but not often), I feel like it was worth every dollar!!! This is not a paid review or discount review, I'm a real female with alopecia living in Virginia. I wish I knew of this years ago. read more

I first had my SMP procedure in 2013 by Scalp Aesthetics in New York. They did a really good job but the ink had faded over the years so it was time for a rework. I did not want to go back to NY for another procedure because of the risk of catching Covid, so I was very relieved to find Chris near me. When I went to meet Chris's I was impressed with how clean and professional looking his office was. Chris did an analysis of my head and recommended a treatment plan. The treatment plan was exactly what I was looking for. Chris did a rework of my head and restored it to its former glory. I have met many artist before and honestly believe that Chris is the most talented and skilled artist I have ever met. If you live in the DC area and are looking for an artist who has the integrity to keep his appointments, is a perfectionist, and will make your head look as natural and undetectable as possible, then Chris is the only solution. Thank you Chris for the amazing job you did. You exceeded my expectations! read more

Talk about a confidence booster!! As embarrassing as it may be, there are certain things we have no control over. Our crooked smile, imperfect hairline, alopecia. All ver real things that are sometimes genetic, sometimes medical. As far as hair for us ladies its a bit easier (not funner) and less "taboo" to have work done or dye our hair/roots. For men? For the most part they either go bald or are confined to a hat/cap. I have 2 very good friends that I sent to Chris. Under the age of 35. One always had a receding hairline that got worse with time. Another that was balding at the crown by the age of 30. Both confined to wear hats 24/7. To the point I probably wouldn't recognize them without one. I honestly never knew how much this bothered them. Or how much older they looked until I saw Chris's work. I knew he was an amazing barber and so is his crew. My sons have been clients for some time. Its really an art. Specially when you find someone who takes such pride in his work. Both guys are a little embarrassed to put up pics (I'll ask them again) But thank you Chris for giving them such awesome service and allowing them to look so amazing and feel so confidant!! Guys there's no shame. Trust me you wont regret it. Just ask for a consult!! I asked them both "did it hurt"?! and both said "Not at all" Good Luck to all!! read more
