Showed pictures of small and smedium twists/braids(included), and asked for the parts not to be too small. In return, she gave me jumbo parts while charging me $250. Also gave me a brush in front without asking and gave me below butt length when I asked for top butt/low waist length. My hair looked nothing like I wanted and asked for. Not sure whether the particulars of my request were lost in translation but I haven't had a braider not know how to follow instructions like this in a while. Very disappointing service. Will not be back. Update: I don't know where to start with the inaccuracies in your response but I'm most stunned that you are even denying making my hair(in pictures). Made this hair less than 12 hours ago at Diama Hair Braiding and took these pictures about 3 minutes after I left your salon and you deny your own work? Even you must know this hair is not worth the amount charged and cannot defend it in public. Now imagine how I feel after paying $250 for this. It's been a while since I've gotten my hair braided at Diama Hair Braiding but as always, they never disappoint. Adja is always pleasant when I call to book my appointment. The environment is still clean,the professionalism and service remains good. Today I got Senegalese Twist done by Nogaye and she did such an amazing job! Comfortable and cozy salon suite. They do a total a 3 heads at a time. Very nice and sweet women . BEWARE: if you are expecting Diama to braid your hair I would advise you to ask when booking. I've been twice and she have yet to do my hair. Other women on staff may do it. I was very nervous the first time I went but Diama reassured me that I was in good hands. My hair turned out beautiful. Went back again a second time but this time was a nightmare!! Some lady did my twist .. pulling my head so hard, all different lengths, sizes and already unraveling in day one. Told them I want shoulder length.. it's to my low back( in the back) and short on top. So do yourself a favor and ask who will be doing your hair. She tells me come back to get it fix... the first time I had to go back due to unraveling!! I don't have time to keep driving 30 minutes away wasting my day! " oh,I can give you $20 off next time".. smh. So frustrating. Makes sure Diama does your hair... or Adja. NO ONE ELSE!! Update 3/4 8am... she can give 1/2 refund. Contemplated not doing this but I just had to - even 3 weeks later. I don't think talking to anyone in that moment or on the phone could describe what I'm about to get into without being interrupted by someone who just wants to reply and/or misunderstand because that someone just wants to reply due to defensiveness. I've seen the replies to other reviews here. With all respect, this is mostly about the principle of customer service, the art of listening to your customer. The other ladies did a good job overall. However, my experiences have always been with Adja and she does an excellent job. I was apprehensive about even taking the appointment but I had a photo shoot and relied on my experience with Adja. Sometimes it does take a week or two to really assess how you like your hair. Yes, like others I'm sure, I did look as we went along. Honestly my main concern was holding many braids at the root throughout the process to protect my hair and scalp. When you are sitting there for hours, trying to stay awake and make conversation here and there, complaining and checking folks is not really on your mind. You really just want to get done. Besides that, I'm the customer, why do I have to do that if I told you what I wanted (the same thing I had just a couple of months ago). I wasn't t expecting it to be 100% of what Adja did, but replaying the whole thing for the last two weeks, I'm just so disappointed. Issues: * Price discrepancy not communicated. * I brought my own hair - same price. * Listen to your customers. If I show you and tell you what I just had the last time I was there, why is it different now? Read below. * Verify price up front even if I was there last week. Don't leave it to the customer to have to always ask, assume or guess that the price is different. * Don't tell me prices change just like the grocery store. Guess what the grocery store does? Advertise their prices. But this is not a grocery store. It is a business though. * Nobody even called in this last two weeks to, 1. apologize for the discrepancy 2. acknowledge that I did pay a bit more 3. acknowledge the receipt of the extra that I sent...nothing! * I was there just a couple of months ago, showed my photo of the last braids plus the inspiration photo. Last time Adja only used 2 packs of the hair that I brought. This time (thank God I brought more) all 4 packs plus a little left from a previous pack were used...why?? Because, these ladies decided to fill up every inch of my head with hair. It is definitely much heavier due to the use of 4 packs of hair verses 2, plus it's hard to moisturize my scalp for that same reason. * In addition, I can't really put my hair back in a ponytail because it's just too thick and heavy. I can't even get my whole hand around the hair to make a ponytail. * Because of the previous point, the gel used on each braid has caked up my scalp. I used to think that it was my scalp, now I know it's the over use of gel while braiding that within a day or so makes it seem like you're hair is dirty because the gel is lifting. * I question the use of the lighter method with the style that I have. That wasn't done before. The first thing to come to mind is, that method should only be used for ends if you are braiding to the end - not anything above the end. Are you burning my hair?? * Just yesterday I took out a braid from the front. Why? Because it was about to kill my little baby edges. These things are a lot heavier than my previous installment. I remember asking for more of my hair to be included in the braids around the front. Much to my disappointment, when I took the hanging braid out of the front, there was barely anything it was holding onto. I'm just glad I know my hair and took it out before it just broke out. * Many of the braids are crooked and/or twisted because the braiding pattern was broken while in process. * Don't try to dispute with me the length of my braids being different from the last time, when I clearly said I wanted the same as I had just 6 weeks ago. I know the difference between bra and waist length. * Don't try to dispute the size of my braids that I had for 6 weeks. Again -They're in my head, I think I know what size they are and what size I want. * Don't tell me to keep braids in my hair for 3 months. First of all, that's not healthy, second of all, THAT'S NOT HEALTHY. You guys really need a website with your prices, length differences, etc. It was quite tiresome and annoying to sit for hours and then go to the ATM because your card reader is broken and then be looked at crazy because I didn't give the amount that I didn't even know I owed. You guys communicated to each other, but not me. For 6.5 hours, a 45-minute drive and bringing my own hair...this shouldn't have happened. Everything good must come to an end. Wow!!!! I haven't had my hair braided since 2007. I got micro braids back then and with two people doing my hair it still took 9 hours! Not so with Aja!! She put micro braids in my head in just five hours!!! She was professional and concerned about my newly formed edges. She gave me some good tips on how to care for my braids and especially my edges! I was excited to learn that she does hair weaves too! I do believe I've just found me a new hairstylist. Priced competitively and great customer service! The first time I had my hair braided in micro Senegalese twist, I had two braiders on my head: Diama and Jamma. My braids came out wonderfully ! Everything about them was perfect and they were completed in about 5 hours. This past month, I had my hair braided into micro Senegalese twist again, and this time, I was only assigned Jamma... and my braids just weren't that great. Actually, I'm extremely unhappy with them. -the braids were a lot larger than I requested and the spacing was larger than I had before. This isn't so much a big deal in the rear of my head but it made things look rather sparse in the front. -Jamma used a lighter to burn the ends of the braids, which caused them to look rather rough at the ends. Plus my braids were shedding badly for over a week, as the ends that were weakened by the burning continued to break off. -Jamma also used scissors to cut flyaways while she was braiding which would have been fine, but she was careless while doing it. Therefore, I have a number of braids that are cut halfway through mid-braid. My own hair is rather long, so I'm sure it wasn't miraculously missed during these mess ups either; I'm terrified to see what short pieces I'll be working with on my real hair once I remove them. -instead of tapering off the ends of the braids, a bunch of them are bluntly cut, making things look rather choppy. Lastly, I brought in my own hair (because my hair ombres and they don't carry that type of color) and yet, was still charged full price (which included the hair in the price). While my experience the first time was awesome, I simply won't be returning . My money can be spent better elsewhere. read more

It's been good the times i've gone before (2x for crochet), but this time i went for braids and wish i had read the reviews on here first. I showed one of the women a picture of what size braids I wanted, and she gave me medium/small braids. she started in the back obviously, but never showed me the size she was putting in so i expected it was correct. then the front came and it was wayyy too small for my liking. small braids don't frame my face well. I obviously still had to pay (BY THE WAY THEY PRICE BRAIDS FROM 180-220) bc I technically did use their labor. I think i'll only go there if i want to do crochet again. read more

Awesome service! I was running late and the stylist politely called me! Lucky she did; i was lost. My hair came out better than the picture. Braids weren't tight at all. The only reason i didn't give 5 stars is because oddly a few days later the cornrows in the back started to get tight and left bumps at the nape of my neck. These are some of the nicest ladies ever. Adja is awesome and toughed it out for a long day braiding my hair. She's gentle with your hair and takes care with your edges (which is invaluable for those of us that are concerned about edges and braids). She checked on me frequently to make sure I was comfortable, and gave me some good pointers on transitioning my hair back to its natural state. I came to Diama Hair braiding with no great expectations - I figured it would be another typical braiding salon with me hiding the bad pieces underneath the good braids/twists. To my delightful surprise Adja, the proprietor, was a skilled hairstylist as well as a braider. She was courteous, and explained the benefits of one hair style over another. She had another braider helping her because in her small suite there were two of us getting our hair done. She explained how to take care of our twists and recommended products like Tui Hair and the Leave-In from Carols Daughter. I was impressed that she knew those high quality products (some braiders have never even heard of Carol's Daughter - even some hairstylist). I was done in less than 4 hours! My twists aren't tight, but aren't so loose that I feel like I will loose one. They are small and professional looking, so I feel very comfortable wearing them in the boardroom and they are equal in size! Adja has great customer service; she told me that she would call ME in a month to see if I needed my edges touched up! There were no loud phone calls in another language in my ear. When Adja spoke to the other braider in another language she was conscious to whisper to her in order not make her customers feel uncomfortable. She listen to my questions and either addressed them or fixed the issue. I honestly felt relaxed when leaving, like a leisurely afternoon at the salon; I HIGHLY recommend this braiding salon! I was recently contacted by Aja (sp?), the woman who braided my hair. She says she never received my texts or photos regarding my dissatisfaction with my hair. I'll give her the benefit of the doubt and believe that she did not receive my texts. However, not once did she apologize for anything. She was definitely more concerned about the bad review and clarifying that she did not get my messages. It would have been great if she would have addressed the fact that eight braids fell out of my hair and that my scalp was damaged. I'll add one star just for contacting me back. Do better. read more

I got my hair braided about 3 weeks ago here. I showed her a picture and said I wanted my hair just like that, and she definitely delivered! My hair came out absolutely beautiful! I arrived about 20 minutes late because I could not find the hair I needed, and she was really nice about it. My hair took exactly 4 hours as she estimated before I even sat down. Now anyone who gets braids knows that when the braid shop says 4 hours they mean 6... she REALLY meant 4 hours! It was awesome! She is priced very well, and I have recommended her to my friends. I've been to Adja several times for Senegalese Twists and her service and styles are always on point. My braids always come out beautifully. After my braids get a bit worn around the edges, I can come back for a "refresh" and my braids will last another few weeks. I love the professionalism and the great service. Adja did a great job on my hair. Not only that, she is extremely courteous and did my hair even when I was an hour late for my appointment. She also gave me a fair price and made sure I left the studio right away to catch the metro back to D.C. She was incredibly nice and I would give her 5 stars. That being said keep in mind they pull tight, so be sure to fight to save those edges. That being said (again) the twists are beautiful, small, tight, and no major frizzing in the front. Now my back twists have started to frizz, but I I think that is because her friend helped to do the back. Now I won't complain about this too much bc I was an hour late to the appointment and the front is still so beautiful. My twists are also in spiral curls at the bottom and they are so elegant. It's been about 2.5 weeks since my appointment and the twists have yet to disappoint me. I'll probably keep them in for a month and a half. read more

Adja is warm and friendly as well as efficient and relatively fast..hair braiding takes a long time and to have someone doing it who is sensitive to her customers and willing to accomodate their requests is a positive thing. She is just about to move her business, it's now located within a nail salon but is separated by a screen that provides suffecient privacy from the curious stares of the nail and massage patients who flow in and out. So glad I found a place in Rockville. Its very hidden but I found it and I WILL be returning. Its good to know you dont have to go all the way to DC to get your hair done. This was my first time getting Twist done and I am glad I tried something new. I really love the way my hair turned out. I called a few days prior to set up an appointment. I am pretty sure you could call and the same day one of the stylist can see you. (It just depends on their workflow and what exactly you are trying to get). The stylist who did my hair, her name is Aja. She was soooo very gentle and very pleasant to spend time with. She did my Bomb Twist in about 4-5 hours. She kept checking in to make sure she was not doing them too tight. I must say I didnt have a headache, didnt walk out with " chinese eyes" or anything. We started on time and she was very professional. There is also another stylist which is her sister, her name is Awa. As I was getting my hair done Awa knocked out three people easily and everyone was getting something different done. My mom got her hair done on Wednesday and I came in Thursday and everything my mom said about Diama hair , I witnessed myself. I like the fact that Aja explained how to care for my new do from beginning to end. She also did not push any of their products on me and the price was very reasonable. I paid $160.00 for my style and thats only because I used two packs of hair. If you use one pack the price is $150.00. Just got my hair done (bomb twist), for the third time with Adja. Awesome! Adja is very professional, she's ontime and polite. This has always been a great experience for me. Other than her pristine braiding skills, what sets her apart from others is that she can tell you how the style transforms over time and how to maintain the look you want. The bomb twist is a style that looks better as it ages, as your natural hair curls over time it blends into the curl of the twist to give you a totally natural look for both.
