Our daughter and I were visiting the area for a concert and needed a casual restaurant that had good basic food. This was it. Nothing special, but the visit was good. Our daughter had the bacon cheeseburger, but no bacon as they were out of it. It was Very good and the accompanying tator tots were perfectly crisp and flavorful. I had the Burger Dip. It was okay. It needed mayonnaise or some sauce on it. They did provide a dip to dunk it, but it was kind of flavorless. The fries were hot and crisp. and the requested tartar sauce was excellent. Love the M&M's that came with the meals. Service was okay. You have to order at the counter, but they were quick and brought the food to the table. read more

Made the west to East drive from Gif Harbor to Spokane. Couldn't linger long over lunch as we had dogs with us waiting in the car (cool weather and we checked on them in shifts, don't worry). Saw a favorable review when we were very close, so we tried it. Tiny sign over the door with the name. Very basic interior, but the food was pretty good. On a road trip and came here because of the 4 star review and reviewing other restaurants along the way. This is not a 4 star quality place. You order at the counter, tip is asked for when you pay, not after service (unless you decline and pay cash). We were given paper cups and told to help ourselves to the water. Served on paper plates and plastic forks we on the table. No other utensils offered. Bacon was underdone, but everything else was ok. Nothing great, just tasted like something you cook at home. However, huge amount of grease left on plate. I only finished my meal because it wasn't the worst, was edible, and I payed $12 for it. My son said his biscuit and gravy was ok and my dad said his bacon omelet was the worst he's ever had (whole strips of undercooked and uncut bacon). I would not go here again. read more

Observations: no masks, obvious Republican leaning. I'm still sketchy about no masks but the two ladies were polite. The aesthetics were cool, lots of old album covers, historic photos, old hunting lodge signs from times gone by. You can write on the wall with a marker. This is where I observed trump/pence and pro-Culp writings. I'm not sure why politics have to make their way into a restaurant. But I'm in rural WA so I expect nothing less. In search for food after a long weekend at the Gorge amphitheater. You need to go here. Trust me on this, it's exactly what you are looking for. There's also many signatures all over the wall of the restaurant dating back years that this place is very much frequented after concerts and festivals. Don't be fooled by your gps, that place that doesn't look like a restaurant w a big tall sign.... yes, that's it. Walk in and go straight to the back to order and then find a seat. They will bring you your food when it's ready. They randomly have a cooler of beer in the middle of the place if cases of beer are what you are looking for to purchase. A fun find for concert goers around this area. Solid, but simple breakfast food. I got the biscuits and gravy with a side of sausage and husband got the chicken fried steak (one of the best I've tried). This place may not look like much from the outside, (in fact you can't even really tell this is the place from the outside). The food however is exceptional. The chicken fried steak was hand breaded cube steak on top of a creamy sausage gravy with big chunks of sausage. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the hash browns had a great crispness on the outside and firm in the middle. The pancakes where buttery and light. The service was pleasant and quick and the price was very reasonable. All in all I will stop here again if I'm on the 90. read more

Great hole on the wall cafe. Place is run by a single lady and she does a great job. I had chicken fried steak, eggs, hash browns & sourdough toast my wife had eggs, bacon, hashbrowns & a bisket. Stepping into the twilight zone... Go to Ellensburgs. After reading several reviews about the cafe we decided to give it a try as it was en route. An overwhelming air freshener hits you upon opening the door to a cold, dimly lit, quirky dining area. It felt like a scene from the Twilght zone... Not what I would call clean. The"help"was not really. Order at the small counter area, pour your own coffee from the urn... Folgers would put it to shame... don't order basted eggs, they don't make them and I don't recommend the over medium as they can't make them. Bacon tasted reheated but was pretty probably the cafes only saving Grace. We try to give little places like this the benefit of a doubt but they need to put the effort in to save themselves. read more

Scalehouse Cafe has the nicest staff and loyal customers! My friend and I arrived early to our camp site, so I googled restaurants near by, and this popped up. The sign may be a bit tricky because it says EAT and it's next to a fueling station for truck drivers. On the brown building itself it'll have the name of the restaurant. Going inside, you will see tables, writing on the walls from those who live near or just passing by. Walk a bit further, and the counter to order food is there. I had their biscuits and gravy. Their menu is simple and fit for any appetite. I also got a free coffee or beverage of my choice since it was my first time dining there. The nice lady who worked the counter then served us our food and asked about what event we were here for. She was so sweet! This place is awesome. When we first pulled up, we couldn't see any cars in the lot and thought this place might be closed. We tried the door and - success! - it was open. We both got griddle combos. I went for the French toast and my husband got pancakes. We both opted for the bacon, which was thick and cooked to perfection. This place offers breakfast staples executed well.
