Cozy and clean, outlet under the table. Welcoming-solo-visitors vibe.

Stopped by on my way to the airport heading back to LA since it was close to my hotel -- and wow, what a find. Their lobster roll easily beat the ones I've tried at those 1K+ review spots in Chelsea Market. Honestly, best I've ever had. I got the brown butter version, and the combination of the savory butter sauce and sweet, meaty lobster--served warm--was just perfection down to the last bite of their huge portion. Paired it with their citrusy green tea from the fridge, and the balance was amazing. The shop itself is cozy, spotless, and full of interesting seasonings to browse. There's even a grab-and-go section with seafood dips and salads; the staff kindly advised against buying since I had a long flight, but next time I'm bringing an insulated bag so I can take some home! Everyone was super welcoming and friendly, and I loved seeing locals casually drop by to pick up fresh fish -- clearly their selection and quality are top-notch. Makes me wish we had a place like this near my home. Tip: The kitchen opens at noon. I arrived early and waited it out to fully enjoy the lobster roll, but there's smoked salmon dip, and crackers you can enjoy while you wait. There's even an outlet by the seating area if you need to charge your phone. Definitely a spot I'll return to every time I'm back in NY/NJ.

Lunch review only, as I have yet to actually purchase fresh seafood from this fishmonger: Get the Ahi Tuna Crudo if you want plump juicy pieces marinated in a lightly sweetened soy sauce. I would've preferred no sugar, but the quality of everything else was on point. The Lobster Roll was loaded with plump chunks of lobster, tons of fresh dill, and just enough mayo to lubricate everything without drowning it. But the Crab Cake Sandwich. Jimminy wow-lickers! Easily one of the best crab cakes I've ever had: loaded with fresh crab meat and very little filler (our server said it was ~80% vs. 20%), perfectly baked so that it was lightly crispy on the outside, and sandwiched between two pillowy soft brioche buns. This is the sandwich to get. The only drawback of this place is how high the prices are. A lobster roll, for example, is $32. As a former Bostonian who lived there during the heyday of $15 lobster rolls, the prices make me want to wither and die. But my desire for seafood is too strong, so I will (begrudgingly) pay these prices when it's time for a treat.

Amazing food. Warm buttered lobster po'boy and a plate of very fresh PEI oysters. Topped it off with fries. Small quaint sitting area. Some of the best seafood I've had recently. Friendly staff.

This is a fish market with a few counter seats. A friend and I came here for lunch and got the crab and lobster bisque and browned butter lobster roll. Both were delicious. The bisque was tomato-based and had a decent amount of crab and lobster meat. It's not all cream, unlike many other bisques. The hot soup felt very good on a cold winter day. The browned butter lobster roll was also served hot, in contrast to the New England lobster roll that uses cold mayo. The lobster meat was seasoned with a little Cajun seasoning to give it a slight kick. We had the option to add more lobster meat, but thought the 4 oz. standard size was enough with the bisque. We both left with full stomaches and warm hearts.

The shrimp po boy, lobster roll, and fish and chips were the best I've had in the US. Service was really great and the interior gives off a seafood vibe. 10/10 for everything

Had an amazing lobster role here, incredible flavor. Will definitely be back to try other items!

The best local seafood ever! The menu is extensive and the staff is super knowledgeable. Seafood and specials are always fresh and heaping portions. Their Caesar salad is to die for and their cocktail sauce is delectable.

the size of their cup of soup.

Meh. My first time there for takeout. 1- it took FOREVER to get a cup of clam chowder (20 minutes..were they still fishing them out of the sea?!?) 2- the small size is NOT worth the hefty $13!!! 3- also it was thin (not thick) and with no potatoes. I make a much better chowder at home, so I will not be back for this. The dip (trout) was Ok, but I should've gotten the crab instead. The fresh fish to cook at home looked good but way too expensive for my budget.

Half of the shrimp po boy

I am never in this part of JC so it took me a while to finally visit Scale Fish Market, and I'm so gad i did! I got two salmon fillets for $20 to cook at home and a $20 shrimp po'boy sandwich. $20 is a bit high in my opinion, but this po'boy was worth the extra few bucks. Served New Orleans style (aka crammed with shrimp to the point of overflowing) the shrimp were lightly fried and all the flavors of the sandwich came together well. The bread was not the right kind of bread for the sandwich, and that's the only bad thing I can say about it. I'm looking forward to coming back to try the fish and chips.

Blackened fish sandwich
Traci L.

My relatives are huge seafood lovers and insisted on taking me here during my visit. I ordered the blackened fish sandwich and it was SO GOOD! The fish was cooked perfectly and not even a little bit dry. Loved how the fish was larger than the bun. Warning- a little messy to eat but worth every napkin! We also ordered the west coast oysters and fish and chips which was equally delicious.

Lobster and crab bisque.. do you see all that ?

This little gem of a seafood market really exceeded my expectations. I went on a Sunday afternoon and it was a little crowded. It's very small inside. I like the fact that it is both a seafood market and they make food there as well. Very limited seating but I recommend eating the food right there as it's fresh. I saw everyone with bowls of lobster bisque so I followed suit. Best lobster bisque I've ever had. The bowl was filled both lobster and crab. The base wasn't too milky or creamy, it was just right. I also shared some east coast oysters. My partner got the fish and chips and that was perfect. The fish was in abundance, nice and fluffy under the batter. The fries were nice and golden. The dish was great. I also had the grilled Mackerel which was seasoned very well with a green chimi like sauce . I was so full and pleased, I took the rest of my food and rolled home. I'm definitely coming back. I did not get any raw fish but they seemed to have a pretty good selection. The staff were friendly and attentive also.

Amazing food best fried oysters I ever tasted & great customer service. And a truly unique experience I've told EVERYONE I know about this hidden gem

Shrimp po'boy
Noel E.

Got the shrimp po' boy for my first visit and it was spectacular. They did not skimp on the shrimp at all and the shrimp had a great size and meatiness to them and the batter they were fried in was seasoned well. I will say the dine-in service wasn't great but being that they are primarily a fish market, the guys had their hands full dealing with that side of things so I won't hold it against them. The staff was still very nice and I enjoyed my meal. Will be back to try more.

I'm very particular about where my seafood comes from, so I did some digging and discovered Aqua Best. Steven, the owner, runs a family-focused operation, and the difference is clear: he and his team are exceptionally knowledgeable and friendly. The market itself has a clean, inviting feel with no off-putting odor, which is a huge plus. Their staff genuinely knows their seafood and can answer questions with confidence. Aqua Best also supplies seafood to some of New York City's top fine-dining restaurants, which speaks to the quality and consistency you can expect. I decided to give them a try and left with Bronzino, Snapper, and Gulf Shrimp. All three were superb--fresh, well-prepared help in selecting portions, and clearly handled with care. If you're picky about seafood quality, provenance, and customer service, Aqua Best is worth a visit.

Most often I get the 30g as a treat for one. Last occasion was for the Stranger Things season 5 finale on New Year's Eve. A steak and some mini potatoes made for the perfect girl dinner. In Conclusion: I've been going here since my friend recommended it in 2024. Love it for the quality and the price. If you…read moretake his advice or the crabs he chooses, you're guaranteed to wind up paying the most for the lowest quality ones. I went to buy in-shell scallops and he said to "pick the heaviest ones, they have more meat" but what he really means is they're packed with sand. Funny enough, he didn't try giving me this advice the next time I went to buy and looked in the crack to see if they're full of sand. Also went to buy female blue crabs and he wanted to choose them, he spent like 5 minutes digging through the bucket and 5/6 of the crabs were totally empty inside (you can feel if they're hefty when picking). No idea why customers aren't allowed to pick their own crabs but he can dig and dig and throw them around. I'm familiar with picking seafood and gave him the benefit of the doubt two separate times before I realized he's trying to sell off the worst products and that benefit of the doubt is undeserved. He got an attitude real quick when I told him I'd like to grab my own blue crabs so I left. Spend your money elsewhere.

I plan on making a Liberian palm butter sauce with a new twist by only using seafood rather than the traditional mixture of a bit of shrimp and fish mixed with chicken, beef and pork. Sea and Sea is great, especially if you want to feed your family or a small group of friends. This…read moreis for all the seafood lovers and pescaterians. Tired of beef steaks, come get your fish steaks. The salmon looks great here. Everything looks great here. Walk in through the front doors and notice something? No fishy odor, just fresh fish. Let's cover the layout and ground rules. On your left, you have immediately the whole fish. Further back on your left, you have the fillets and steaks. All the usual suspects are here. All the way back on your left, you will find the various sized farm raised shrimp. Around that left corner, moving from left to right you will find the wild caught shrimp. In the middle at the back, is the register where you will eventually pay. Immediately below and in front of the register are the veggies: broccoli, carrots, corn, onions. To the right of the register in the back are the mussels, scallops, and clams. On the right as you walk in, there is one of the busiest counters with a guy steaming all your orders in a giant steamer behind the counter. Walk a little further toward the back on the right side is a guy who is busy frying fish and French fries, making fish sandwiches, and frying whatever whiting, catfish or shrimp you desire. Further back on your right toward the back is where you can obtain your crab legs and lobster. Given this was my first time, I am laying out the ground rules and procedures. Use the tongs everywhere to load your seafood in the steel bowls by the seafood on your left or in the middle of the store on a few tables. You take your bowl or bowls to the guy at the register in the back and pay for your items by weight and their various price rates. Most things are between $10-$20 per pound. Cash is King, but I believe they take Master and Visa, not American Express. Tell the guy how you want your seafood prepared: fried or steamed. He will slice your fillets and chop your corn, placing everything in a plastic basket if you want it steamed together or separately if you're going to fry certain things. He will give you a number for every basket and place the identical number in each basket for tracking. If you're frying, take that basket to the second station or counter on the right. If you're steaming, take your basket to the first station on your right as you enter. The guy at the steaming counter with liberally add the Old Bay, garlic and other seasonings to your seafood. If want low sodium, this is where you tell him to limit the salt. This is also in retrospect, when I would emphasize to the steaming guy not to overcook your seafood. Many of my people (African Americans) and from what I observe among the Latino community like everything cooked well: steaks medium well to well done, eggs scrambled hard, veggies cooked to death and seafood cooked well done. So this is the default expectation and the guy will steam to that degree. The cooking and steaming will continue on your way home, so I would in retrospect advise cutting the steam time by at least five minutes. Your shrimp will suffer the most from over steaming and this would likely apply to your lobster as well. Keep this is mind and let the guy at the steamer know you wish to limit the steam time. My overcooked shrimp is reflected in this rating, but there is more upside when I return. When the steaming is done or overdone, he will announce your number and bag your seafood. You can and should ask him to add laddles of melted butter to your bag of seafood. Tell him how many laddles of butter you want added to your bag(s). He will add more seasoning at this point as well if you ask him. He will twist the bag(s) closed and place them in a plastic container with rubber bands for the trip home. It's all so very delicious and I will return. Two fillets of catfish, two fillets of cod, about a dozen Tiger shrimp and at least a dozen large scallops with the veggies came to $71. I find this quite reasonable and it tastes so good. If you want your shrimp deveined, they have the ones with the shells taken off and deveined. Go home, crack a beer and devour! 3.8 stars!
