My kitchen cabinet under the sink was rotting out due to leaks from an old garbage disposal and kitchen faucet set. I tried several companies but no one was interested in the work. I called SB Handyman and they responded right away. I had the new hardware and other materials ready when they came. Hector put new wood panels on three sides inside the cabinet and a new bottom shelf supported by a new base he built. He painted the inside surfaces and then installed the new faucet set and new garbage disposal. He was a pleasure to work with and the cabinet looks great plus it is now as solid as it was when new. SB Handyman billed by the hour and it ended up costing less than the quotes I got from two plumbing companies which only quoted on installing the new plumbing and could not do the cabinet work, which was the main part of the job. We called SB Handyman to deal with a screeching 60+ year old oversize sliding door that was getting impossible to open, close and even lock. SB Handyman sent Jacob who CAREFULLY removed the door from the track to inspect the carriers and wheels that ride on the rail in the track. Apparently a repair attempt had been made before we bought the place, and it consisted of multiple mismatched screws interfering with the mechanism and making the wheel height unadjustable. Some were bent. It looked like a festival of frustration had taken place in this door in the past. The wheel carrier could not be removed from the door so removing these screws was difficult. Jacob stuck with it, however, replaced the mess with the right screws, restored adjustability, adjusted the wheel height and now the door is so well balanced that it slides LIKE BUTTAH, as they say on Long Island, and locks securely. And all without damaging the floor, walls or ceiling! This would have been impossible without Jacob's insight, readiness, patience, and perseverance. We are mighty favorably impressed. read more

I contacted SB Handyman to get a portable AC unit assembled. Holden (the owner) responded quickly and put me in touch with Kevin, who works for him. Kevin was not what I expected, after having read the reviews about SB Handyman. After setting up my appointment for the next day, Kevin asked me to call him around noon (the day of the appointment), to find out what time to expect him. I found this odd, as I would expect the service provider to update me on their own. So, the day of my appointment, I contacted Kevin, as requested, to find out what time he'd be by. He called me and asked if there was anyway to move my appointment to the following day (which was Father's Day). Apparently, he was working on a project at the time. I told him no, as I had changed my complete schedule around that day to be available for the appointment. So, he said he'd be over around 2pm. At 1:30pm, he called me and told me he wouldn't be to my house until around 2:30, as his project was holding him up. When he did show up, he was wearing what looked like swim trunks and he didn't have any tools with him. He ended up assembling the AC unit, but, did not clean up after himself, didn't turn on the unit to make sure it worked and did not assemble/test the remote. He also left a filter off the unit, that I found after he left. When Holden contacted me a couple of days later to find out how things went, I told him that I wasn't happy with Kevin. Holden (the owner) sounded surprised, but failed to ask what happened. So, I told him that Kevin was unprofessional, not dressed appropriately, that his attention to detail was poor and so was him communication. Holden still did not ask any questions, but, told me that Kevin was a new hire. I was stunned, that the owner of a company would not pick up the phone and call a customer who said these things to him (we had been communicating via text at the time). I did pay for the service, because the service "was provided", but I will never use this company again. Holden had a chance to make this right for me, by taking me seriously, and convincing me that this was not acceptable and apologizing. But, he failed to do that. In today's business environment, amazing customer service and engagement are very important. I received neither. Consider yourself warned. read more

Called to set up an appointment, manager said someone would be in touch. They were, DeWitt texted me at 9:30 pm that night? Okay, whatever, appointment scheduled for 11:30 am in a couple days. 11:30, 11:45, 12:00, no handyman. I text DeWitt, no response. I text his boss, he gets back to me saying this is strange. DeWitt then calls saying he's packing up his truck and will be here in 10-15 minutes. 1/2 hour later, no DeWitt. I cancelled the appointment with boss who gave excuses and a my bad. DeWitt shows up and hangs up on me when I told him I cancelled the appointment. I don't think I was being unreasonable, he was two hours late. Manager said they are busy and things are chaotic.
