During that time, the couple at the table next to us got up and walked out after also receiving no service. We finally did the same. Seven people walked out within minutes of each other, and no one even seemed to notice or care. We completely understand being busy or short-staffed, but acknowledging customers takes seconds. We weren't expecting immediate service--we were simply expecting to be recognized after being seated. We never had the opportunity to order a single drink or bite of food. Unfortunately, we can't review the food because the lack of service made it impossible to stay long enough to try it. Extremely disappointing experience.

But then mine eyes doth glanceth upon the words "Brisket Birria Sandwich" on the menu, and I had to pivot. I'm so glad that I went with my heart. The Brisket Birria Sandwich at Ripple & Company consists of smoked brisket, white cheddar, red onions and cilantro, all melted and pressed between a roll, and served with birria consomme. You dip the sandwich in the consomme and eat, kind of like a French dip. Dip and eat, dip and eat, until you can't dip and eat anymore, either because it's all gone or because your stomach is about to burst. It's a big sandwich, and it is also served with incredibly delicious fries, which doesn't help with the stomach bursting thing. This whole meal is amazing and I would visit Ripple & Company just to eat this exact thing again. I visited with people who ate at Ripple & Company quite frequently, and they got their favorites: The Black & Gold Pub Burger, and the Cajun Shrimp Tacos, with a side of roasted Brussels sprouts. Everyone enjoyed everything. As a nice surprise, one of my dining mates ordered the Smokehouse Nachos for us to share, as if we didn't have enough food. But there's a different chamber in my stomach for chips and nachos, and luckily, that chamber was empty, so it worked out just fine. The nachos are great, with tender pieces of shredded pork, pickled jalapenos, a vegetable mix, green onions and chipotle ranch drizzled on top. The service here is great: We were seated right away, ordered right way, and our food came out within a good amount of time. The decor is car and transportation themed, with traffic signs and hubcaps hung up on the walls. Very fun.

Walked in and there was about a dozen people in the waiting area while the dining floor was empty. And not an employee to be found. After a brief wait, an employee showed up. He looked at me and snapped "How many?" I was shocked by his rudeness. I said "Two." He then barked "There will be a wait." I was speechless. Why was he so rude? The dining room was EMPTY. And there would be a wait? My friend asked how long of a wait and the employee stated "10-15 minutes" (Turns out the hostess called off and that derailed EVERYTHING...I guess?) After about 10 minutes, they FINALLY began seating the other customers who were waiting. We finally got seated. The cushion on the booth was not attached and was sliding all over the place. The little lamp on the wall was fuzzy. The fuzz was from YEARS of dust and dirt build up. And it was right there above our food! Disgusting! I ordered a New York Strip medium well. The waitress asked "Is a little pink ok?" I responded, "That is perfect." My friend ordered the ribeye cooked medium. The waitress asked "That will be a pink but warm center. Is that ok?" My friend responded that is how he wanted it. We get the food. My medium well New York Strip is well done. And then some. No pink. The center is gray, dry, and very chewy. My friend's medium ribeye came out more of a medium well. A lot of gray and very little pink. I had the mac and cheese as one of my sides. Again, truly disappointing. There was a layer of cheese on top, then just mainly plain pasta underneath everything. The cheese on top was VERY bland and had no taste. Unfortunately, our waitress never stopped to check on us or asked how our food was. I got the bill, paid, and we left. I've been to several other Longhorn Steakhouses, and this is not the norm. I'm fully OK with you loving Arni's and me thinking it's fine slash borderline not very good. Don't get it twisted, though. The service at this Arni's is excellent. The service is way better than it needs to be. The servers are quick and friendly, and it's a pleasure to dine here. I'm just not a fan of the food. But I feel like Arni's has been an institution in the Lafayette/West Lafayette area for a long time, so people have their allegiances and hills that they are willing to die on. One of those hills that locals seem to want to die on is that Arni's and their thin crust pizzas, which are cut into squares, are good. I ordered a personal sausage pizza, which is like a microwaveable Mama Celeste or Connie's pizza, but served at a restaurant. The crust is cracker thin, the sauce is very sweet, and the whole pie is just a little too greasy, and hard and soft in all the wrong places. Maybe I needed to order a larger pizza? Maybe the small size of the personal pizza is not the way to go? I also ordered a Caesar salad, which came with chunks of chicken that I did not order with my salad. OK! It also came with tomatoes and the dressing on the side, and at that point, it ceased to be a Caesar salad in my mind and was just a salad with chicken and tomatoes. Arni's is not my thing, but this place was poppin' during lunchtime on a weekday, so you know it's other people's thing. Maybe give it a try when you're in the Lafayette area.
