When someone came to my house recently and asked, "Now that the kitchen is done, is there anything you would have changed?" I could honestly say no. Why? Because Susan thought of everything ahead of time. She took our multi-page wish list, distilled it to its essence, asked the right questions, and created something that is at once beautiful AND functional and unique to us. Our young adult children returned home to the renovated kitchen, took one look and said, "This couldn't be anyone else's kitchen but yours Mom." Susan understands what it means to LIVE in a house, to use it - not just look at it or hand it off to someone to function within it. No, she gets it. "A place for everything, everything in its place." Was it more than we thought we would spend before we started? No question. (But it's inevitable to have a little sticker shock when faced with real life labor and material costs after creating a price in our own minds based on nothing but fantasy.) But Susan and her team were organized, upfront and very clear with communication, sign-offs and schedules. And so while it was expensive, it was also not a surprise. This is my first Yelp review, but I felt compelled to write, because I am so thrilled with everything that Susan and the team at Savvy did to breathe new life into our home! We recently moved into a house that could be described as very "1990's," with outdated finishes, yellow mustard paint in some rooms and more fireplaces than we knew what to do with! Susan and her team worked patiently with my husband and I, helping to guide us through the design process. We updated all interior and exterior paint, all flooring (wood and carpet) and created livable and functional spaces throughout our house. Overall, Susan and her team transformed our home into a bright, fresh, and livable space. Most importantly, our new furniture is durable and functional, which is a must, with two young kids and a dog! Steer clear of this place! It is my fault for not reading the (numerous) 1-star reviews on here. And as you will see from Susan's (the owner) responses to the negative feedback, that she not only lacks character and professionalism, but integrity and responsibility. From day one, she and her team took no responsibility for problems that had occurred. I was assigned a contract designer to do some work on my house. I was looking for a company to come in and help me add that extra element of style to my home. The designer toured my house for 40-45 minutes and charged me $250. I showed her my style, gave her pictures of room designs I liked. Showed her pieces I thought were great, showed her colors that interested me. All I wanted was help getting my home to the next level of style and bring in their "expertise". To get started, I was asked for more money for their time. Reluctantly I paid. I had already given them a lot and they hadn't even done anything yet. Everything I asked to see, was put back on me to give them more examples of what I liked (to basically find the items myself). There was no creativity. As you will see from their pictures, their homes all look the same. The light fixtures you see in finished rooms, are what were shown to me too. Everything was extremely overpriced and expensive, but I still kept giving them a chance (after numerous requests from my husband not to!) I gave them a budget and they exceeded it significantly. I ordered a light fixture for my room (above my bed) and this gigantic box arrived. I called the designer to tell her I thought it was too big and she insisted that it would work. My electrician was here along with my husband, we called her to say there is no way it was going to fit. She argued on the phone with me that she measured 3 times and said it would be fine. The light fixture was 6 1/2 feet long and my ceiling is 9' tall! It was NOT going to work, but she argued to the point where my husband even got upset with her. I still continued to try and work with them because I felt these were minor issues and wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. In the meantime, I ordered two couches for my family room that I saw in their store. This too became another big issue but, I needed those couches. I was having company over and needed them, so I ordered them. The biggest reason for my review is this... Her contractor did some wood work in my master. He ended up destroying one of my walls. There were numerous, significant gouges out of the wall, red marks, drywall damage, black marks from where he dropped his tools and they skid across my wall. The carpet behind my bed (which had to be pulled back for the work), where there is never any foot traffic, was left stained. He did a lot of damage. I took photos and made my designer aware of it. I told her we were having our painter come and fix it at our cost because I didn't want to wait any longer to get my room back in order. I ASKED FOR NO REIMBURSEMENT. My designer said she felt awful and would have been more upset than me and that she would let Susan know and she would be in touch. I NEVER heard from Susan. About two weeks later, while organizing delivery of my custom couches and a new master bedroom light fixture, I mentioned to my designer that I was upset that I still had not heard from Susan. Again, I was not asking for reimbursement, I just felt that an owner should have contacted me about how much damage her contractor did. My message was passed on to Susan and I finally received a call. She had the audacity to say that she didn't think a call was necessary as she gave her apology to the designer to pass on to me and that she never saw photos (apparently my designer never passed them on) and how does she know that her guy actually did the damage. I was beside myself. I sent her the photos and all she could say was that I waited 3 or 4 days to send the photos of the damage so how can she be sure her guy really did it! Again, I was not asking for any compensation and this was her response. Accusatory from day one! As you can imagine, this started a heated string of text messages. I was so upset over her lack of accountability, concern and most certainly professionalism. The icing on the cake - the couches I had been waiting for because I was having a party at my house and their had been scheduling issues on the manufacturer's part, were finally going to be delivered the following day. Susan knew I needed the couches and to spite me for being upset about her lack of concern for my damaged walls, she sent me a text stating that she would not be having those couches delivered and was canceling the order and refunding me my money. I had paid for them in full when I ordered them. They were a custom order! Fabric had to be ordered from a separate company. She canceled it! I had no couches for my party. I am glad to be done with them, but it was a very costly mistake for me. STEER CLEAR! read more

Wow, I cannot even believe the response from Susan. It just goes to show her unprofessionalism. I did NOT need any hand holding and we didn't even speak on the phone once during the entire time she was working for us...until the end. We just had contact through email. I needed help choosing furniture to furnish my dining room, I thought that was part of the job of an interior designer??? I don't consider that hand holding? And there was no response about the handling of the bill which was a MAJOR disappointment. Almost being charged $1500 over what we were supposed to be charged. And I'm sorry that her husband had cancer at the time. That is terrible and I might have been empathetic if I knew but she only told us that she was on vacation and that was why she needed to QUIT in the middle of the job! The reason it took me so long to actually post my review is that my mother's Alzheimer's got worse and she passed away last year. I was caring for her by myself in my home along with my baby if you recall. Bottom line is that there are VERY SIMILAR reviews to mine here on Yelp of Savvy Interiors. I think if she is your friend or if you are spending $100, 000+ on your project, she will treat you like a valued customer. If not, beware. I think that a lot of the 5 star reviews are probably her personal friends. Also, the designers I'm working with now said I'm one of the easiest clients they've ever worked with. Just wished I'd found them sooner. As I sat with an unfinished dining room for about a year. I would NOT recommend Savvy Interiors to any of my friends unfortunately. I have been working with Savvy Interiors for the last year and although we had some hiccups with other vendors and timelines Vanessa and Susan advocated for our projects to get completed and to make sure we were ultimately happy with the end result. My formal living room and dining room have transformed during the last year (thank you to Savvy) and everyone that walks into my house says "wow your house looks like a model home!", which I of course LOVE!! We have used Savvy for various projects over the past 9 months. First we used them to stage our home before we put it on the market. Our realtor had provided a designer to give us pointers, but most of their suggestions were not overly practical and would have required us spending more money and time that we were prepared to do. That is when we had Susan come in and were pleasantly surprised and pleased with her practical and less expensive solutions to staging our home. Susan and her team came in and worked their magic and it turned out so good that we almost reconsidered selling the house. Once it went on the market, we had multiple offers with in the first week! More recently we have used Susan to help with the interior decorating of the new home we purchased. She has helped us with various spaces in our new home and we have consistently been pleased with the results. Her ideas and suggestions are practical, affordable and look great! I first became aware of Susan thru her design work for our 14 yr old goalie who was battling cancer. I was blown away with her heart for these families and her work speaks for itself;). I hired her to help me with my living room and it looks so amazing that I've added every other room in the house to the list! Each room is even more gorgeous than the last! Her contractors are amazing. They do incredible work and clean up after themselves! I highly recommend Susan and her team. But I can't just stop there... Her non profit, Savvy Giving by Design, is transforming spaces for children battling cancer. No child should battle cancer and the fact that Susan transforms their healing space into something beautiful in such a dark storm restores my faith in people. I wish I could give them negative stars! You will be deeply disappointed if you give them your hard earned money! The main designer takes long vacations in summer. Nothing wrong with that, but when I contacted her, she didn't say it was going to be difficult to work on the project with her absence, rather said her colleague can help us by visiting our house, understanding our needs and then they will go from there because she was finishing her vacation soon. No mention of $100 charge for her colleague to visit our place and take notes and no mention that the person visiting would have much less experience in interior design than the main designer! We thought we would give her a chance; so her colleague came to our place. She essentially didn't give any consultancy on advice, just collected the information about our project and took photos. One day after her visit, we got slammed with $100 invoice! I asked if this will include the time the main designer would spend on our project in future, and they answered yes. So I continued and gave them benefit of doubt. I was so wrong. For several weeks, I got no emails or other communication; I reminded them that I needed to get the work done by September 15th, which still was 2 months away; then they started sending emails. I sent list of questions, they answered very few just vaguely without giving any specifics of design. Simultaneously they started getting contractors visit our place - all of them quoted about 25% higher price than other quotes I got separately. And yes, did I mention that for weeks, savvy interiors did not share any of the quotes they received from contractors? After mentioning that their contractors were charging much more, when I sent her other quotes I had received - there were inaccurate comments like - 'the work quoted between two quotes was different' etc. And by the way, during these contractors visit, the less experienced colleague just appeared with one of their contractors without our approval of her spending time on this to show what was needed to be done (as if I could not explain the contractor) and then they charged us $50 for her time! I started getting worried about the timeline of the project and asked them to please help us understand what kind of design, colors, materials etc. they think was good for our home. The main designer said she would create a design board which would take one or two hours. I approved it thinking they would definitely come out with something nice - instead I got small image which had bunch small photos cut out from other different images. This, by the way, was completely opposite of our style and what we suggested to the colleague about color combinations we liked. It was quite apparent that they did not even go through our emails and idea book images we stored for them to look at! Then came the September 15th and we didn't get anything done and I decided to stop this unnecessary waste of time. I sent an email about stopping the work mentioning our wavelength didn't match - and then it got really ugly. We received $350 invoice and when I mentioned that we didn't think there was much work done or design help received - the main designer sent email telling us to 'pay off the bill now!' When I again tried to suggest how the project was completely mishandled and that we really didn't receive what we hired them for- her husband jumped in with promising us for 'review of our account'. I thought they may realize what little they have done for us - but rather - he came up with unnecessarily long document about how we were informed about charges for the less experienced designer's visit and about design board! Within a week before I could reply, her husband called on my phone and left me a threatening message about him 'seeking other alternatives to recover the money from me!' (hey, they may not work on your requests in time or not communicate for weeks - but you better do!). I just paid $350 so that I will not have to deal with these company ever again. I am glad that I stopped this project now without wasting more money and putting more faith in Savvy interiors. Save your time and money - don't give Savvy interiors any work unless you are ready for huge disappointment. read more

I am with confidence this review should not come by surprise to Susan. I hired Susan back in October of 2015 to initially renovate my office. When meeting, I also requested for my laundry room to be added to the project as well, but Susan informed me that she would not be able to start on that project until after the new year, so I decided to patiently put that project on hold until the new year came along. In the meantime we proceeded with the office. Unfortunately due to Susan's health conditions, there were some unexpected delays, which I respected. When the New Year rolled around I inquired with Susan to see when we could start the laundry room, but she immediately said that she had TOO many projects going on and would have to decline taking on any new projects. Although I was disappointed, I took her health into consideration and held my tongue for any comments. She later emailed me and said she felt horrible and that she would proceed with the project, so we did only to receive another email 6 weeks after that saying that she will have to once again decline that project because her family and "health" were priority. Here again, I reframed from commenting because I didn't want to add any frustrations to her current condition, ONLY to find out she interviewed a good friend of mine shortly thereafter for NEW business. I guess the financial gain was SO much larger than my little laundry project. I have one word for you Susan.. WOW!!! I was so glad I was able to learn this info before she made a huge mistake in hiring you. I am sure you will try to defend this email as you have tried to defend every single bad yelp review that you have received. Funny enough, I experienced so many of the same feelings they spoke about. The designer spent 30 minutes at my house and was terrific. No fees were mentioned, and silly me, at this point, I'm thinking the consult is free. A week later I received a bill for $100! DISHONEST! If you are looking for an arrogant designer who will act like she is doing you a favor by working on a project for you, and lie to you about the costs of materials, then look no further, Susan is the designer for you. I ignored the arrogance at first because I liked her ideas. I took her estimates of costs at face value because there is a certain degree of trust that you put into people. To go into detail, she ordered some brackets for draperies for me and told me that she got a 10% discount off of the retail price. Come to find out that the discount is actually 40%, and she pockets the rest. THEN, the brackets were the wrong size and we needed to order new ones. She told me there would be a 40% restock fee that I was responsible to pay. Wouldn't you know, I called the company to find out actually the restock fee was 25%. She states that it was not her fault that the wrong brackets were ordered since I approved the final invoice, therefore she was not going to be responsible for the return. Didn't bother to address the fact that she was going to charge me much more than the required amount. As a customer, I expect honesty, integrity, and the ability to admit or at least acknowlege that you may have made a mistake. In Susan, not only could she not admit she made a mistake, she then continued to try to deceive me into paying her more money! In each communication, she wrote that she was "doing me a favor by taking on my project when she was already too busy." (which is probably why she made a mistake that she could not admit to) ARROGANT! read more

Although i have not worked with Susan directly I have seen the many things she has done for our community and I have admired the designs that she has created on her Facebook page and on Houzz. When I made a $7,000 carpet mistake, she provided unsolicited free advice via her Facebook page to me. The advice she gave me was excellent. I love my new carpet. The reason I am writing this review is that I am shocked at the people who have written poor reviews of her business here. It seems to me that these people expect her to work for free. If I asked her to come to my home and give me a consultation regarding a flooring purchase, I would expect that she would charge me for the advice. How else would she make money? Even if I spent $500 or more for this advice that would be a bargain if it were to save me from making another $7,000 mistake. Anyway, I think she is a very giving, and talented designer. I worked with Susan the owner from Saavy Interiors on a remodel. I recently purchased a new house and needed some help with paint, carpet, window treatments, furniture etc. Upon meeting her she told us that she would be able to do the work and meet our short timeline and complete the work by our move in date. We moved forward, met with her a few times and she helped us with color and paint selection. We liked her design advice, came up with a plan, but then came the execution...She said that she blocked some dates for the work to be completed using subcontractors. I received an estimate for carpet material from a supplier she uses where she gets a discount which would be passed along to us. I looked it over and the estimate seemed a bit high. To check it out I called a different carpet supplier and discovered that Saavy was charging over $1000 more! After inquiring about this to see if she could match the carpet price or just use the other supplier, Susan became defensive and said "they don't provide the same level of service" then sent me a letter stating that our scheduled dates for the carpet and paint is now booked for other clients and she does not have any openings for another 2 months. Saavy may have a good sense of design and can provide some helpful design ideas, but I would not recommend using them to execute any work. They overcharge for material without concern and are unable to keep their promises. read more

I called Savvy Interiors a few years back for help with some paint colors for my home. Susan came out within a day or two, walked the house and thankfully, changed my mind on some of my color choices. I was a bit hesitant because I've always done this myself and felt I had a good eye for it! But she insisted that the colors I had chosen wouldn't work as well with the natural lighting, so I went with her recommendation and was so grateful that I did. The darker colors that she picked were spot on, and really "woke up" my "ho-hum" interior. So when my husband and I purchased a storefront downtown and needed help in a hurry, I called Susan again. She was fast and efficient, and had some great ideas to spruce up our new location and update it for the fun downtown crowd. I'm getting ready to host guests for my daughters wedding this summer so it's time to give Savvy Interiors another call. I highly recommend! read more
