The Mayfair Chippy - My to go order was so tasty. Fries could have been crisper but the fish was on point!

The chips were thick-cut, properly salted, and tasted like real chip shop fries instead of frozen fast food fries. The place was completely packed, so I ended up eating on the stairs about a block away, honestly felt like part of the experience. One of those spots that doesn't try to reinvent fish and chips. it just does the classic version better than most places. Would easily go back next time I am in London.

(I heard the non GF version was also excellent.) Platter came with flavorful mushy peas, tartar sauce, and a spicy mayo (or currry for the non GF platter). Chips were large and delicious. Portion was huge, and easily shareable. Delicious!! Service: It was ok. We waited in line for a really long time (more than an hour) but we were checked on from time to time. Once we were seated and ordered, no one really checked in, but we asked if we needed something. Ambiance: Cute outdoor seating. In door seating was okay. Reservations get to go into a back room which seemed nicer. Lovely side street in a crazy busy popular area. It's a solid 4.5 stars for what it is because the food was so good. I'd return. Tip: Make a reservation a couple of weeks in advance, or be prepared to wait...a long time...Or, skip the line to order takeaway and go enjoy your food!

Just visited again and I can write without any hesitation that this restaurant remains consistently good. Which is not always the case with eating establishments. one of which fall off in quality, service, value-for-money. My review is of eating-in. The takeaway food quality would be the same. A) Food - still delicious. Fish is very fresh - fried & grilled to perfection. Chips - old-fashioned chunky. Fluffy inside - crisp outside. Very generous portions. Also I discovered why their hummus & taramasalata starters are so good. Handmade in the restaurant. Not supplied by an outside caterer or from a jar. B) Service - terrific. Friendly and prompt. C) Prices - very reasonable. Similar to standard fish & chippies serving rather standard fare. All told this is a superb choice for dining-in. (Tables well spaced apart. And always a quiet ambiance). And great for take-out. They seem to work with all the food delivery applications - so people can order through those. Unfortunately for me I live 6,000 miles away! So a treat only when in London. I'm a very picky type. This place is my top pick in London!

This is the question I pondered on whilst waiting to be served at The Blue Oyster Fish Bar, which coincidentally claims to have won a prize for best fish and chip shop of the year. For once however I can agree with this accolade. The chips are fat, the batter is thick and it is open all day (unusual for London chippies). There is also a large seating area at the front, ideal if you're not keen on eating fish and chips the traditional English way( in the rain on the street outside).

My girlfriend and I find getting a fish each (I'd suggest haddock) and sharing a chips is more than enough for 2. Great for a take away and they even have some seats in the back. They had a refurbishment a few years back, updating their interior, so now it's bright and welcoming. Too many fish and chip places have gone down hill over the years, replaced by other fast food. The true stand outs, like Big Bite, have kept going strong - because they have a dedication to producing a quality product. They know what they do and they do it well. Unlike many plaices (sorry can't help myself), who use frozen fish or do pizza/chicken/burgers alongside their fish, these folks stay true to their roots, focusing on one product and excelling at it. I'd give 5*s if this was a google review, but I try to be a bit more reserved on Yelp. Needless to say I cannot recommend Big Bite enough.

I wanted to enjoy George's heavily after seeing many positive reviews on TripAdvisor, the thumbs up from Chef Jamie, etc I was ready to enjoy something great. That unfortunately was not the outcome as now about thirteen hours my stomach has not settled from the experience and I get to enjoy going to work feeling like someone has assisted my insides. When I entered the restaurant I immediately was elated by the colorful 1950s style atmosphere. With colorful seating and framed articles praising the place on the walls I assumed I have definitely chosen correct for my fish and chips experience. The service was friendly and quick, as I only waited six minutes from order to meal. The portions were healthy and they gave a liberal serving of everything for a reasonable price. It was also packaged to go in very efficient and transportable way which is important for takeout Food. I would have preferred that they did not use styrofoam since it is very not environmentally friendly. Then the problems started, half way through eating just chips my stomach turned and then began a disgusting saga which is still continuing at the time of this post. My mother who ate a full meal of fish (cod,) chips, and baked beans only a dozen minutes later felt the same stomach pains and problems I was experiencing. As much as the service and ambiance were impeccable, serving Food that makes people sick will always give you one star. Sorry George's you really need to improve the quality of food.
