The fish is crispy but not too greasy and perfect. The chips here are the ultimate chip shop chips, slightly crispy, very hot and cooked enough. (You know what I mean, by "cooked enough" meaning they have that essential being dipped in oil long enough taste). The only downfall of this place is it is really expensive for a fish and chip shop. A portion of fish and chips will run you around 10 pounds. This place still exists because it is really good.

I don't go to fish restaurants a lot so I end up at his restaurant about once a year - and he always recognises me and treats me like a lost relative. I have to admit, this impresses me so I will try not to be biased. Their calamari is so nice I only ever have that for my first course and it never fails, and I have been going there for about seven years. Those of you mathematically inclined will have worked out that this is seven visits. A lot of older clientèle there so it is a place to go to for a quiet meal with someone you feel comfortable with - and you'll both enjoy it.

This is the question I pondered on whilst waiting to be served at The Blue Oyster Fish Bar, which coincidentally claims to have won a prize for best fish and chip shop of the year. For once however I can agree with this accolade.The chips are fat, the batter is thick and it is open all day (unusual for London chippies). They were very generous with the portion size which I actually could not finish. The chips were average and not really anything special - I was anticipating better ie crisp but fluffy.
