While it won't replace the flavor and total robust enjoyment of a real cheesesteak for me, the vegan orientation of Savory Leaf Cafe is definitely a worthy alternative when seeking a healthier, more vegetarian diet. The shop is in the rear of the Trenton Farmers Market on Spruce Street, with an interesting menu mimicking meaty standards like ribs and bbq chicken done vegan with all plant ingredients. My "Famous Cheesesteak" looked authentic at first glance, but on closer inspection the seitan strips with sautéed onion, vegan cheese in thin baguette roll was a tan color with a firmer texture than grilled beef, and weaker cheesiness. Best part was the very good roll that held the sandwich well with firm crust and nice flavor. I liked it as a change of pace for a healthier meal, but not enough to seriously consider altering my diet for this on a regular basis. Definitely an "A" for solid effort. Service was friendly and welcoming of questions about the business and philosophy. It was entertaining to sit at their hightop and watch the world go by. Trenton Farmers Market is quite a show on weekend mornings in summer.

Buffalo "chicken" on the left, veuben on the right, and Mac and cheese front and center

I've been wanting to check this place out ever since it opened and finally got the chance today. I ordered the verbena, buffalo "chicken" sandwich, and mac and cheese- all to-go. As a huge fan of the Rachel sandwich (it's a Reuben with pastrami instead of corned beef), I really enjoyed the veuben. The sauerkraut and thousand island dressing were spot on! The buffalo chicken sandwich had a lot of hot sauce, which made it really flavorful but take not if you're used to a more mild buffalo sandwich. Unfortunately, the Mac and cheese was really bland. I've seen other reviews about how cheesy and delicious it was, but that was not at all my experience. Hopefully it was just an off day. The staff were super friendly and helpful. One thing I'd love to see is more menu options with vegetables, lentils, etc. as the base rather than meat substitutes. I will definitely be back!

This food so non-vegan friendly. The meat alternatives were crazy real and tasted so good. Sweet potato chips too . The men working were real gems. Offered us samples of the cold brew which was awesome and he gave us mini muffins. Go here for an amazing vegan meal. Can't wait to go back. Post quarantine update: Went to the Trenton farmers market and had a great time. This was me and my sisters first time back here since November 2019 and wow it tasted even better than we remembered. Great place! Go if you can

The Savory Leaf Cafe is always a hit in my family. I've come here a handful of times and have never left disappointed. Once I started buying this salad, I can't stop! My non vegan family members LOVE the impossible burger. Staff is always very friendly! It's a must visit if you're in the Trenton area.

The Original "Vibs" Vegan Ribs Lunch & Mac & Homemade Mac and Cheese Lunch

I went to Savory Leaf Cafe to try out their vegan options. The Vibs (vegan ribs lol yes get in to it) were sooooo good. They were covered with the right amount of BBQ sauce over French fries. You can get them over greens or in a hoagie (I believe) but of course fries for me because yeah. I also ordered a Mac and cheese. The Mac was good just needed a bit more salt but it was very rich and creamy. If you go to the Trenton's farmer market, stop by Savory Leaf Cafe and enjoy your meal!

    Homemade Mac and Cheese Lunch

While it's in the corner of the Trenton Farmers Market, it's definitely worth a stop if you're plant-based or considering the plant-based lifestyle! I tried their vegan mac with violife cheese, which was surprisingly good, along with their banana chocolate chip bread. I didn't get a picture of that before I devoured it, but boy was it soft and perfectly baked! Definitely great treats and you wouldn't know that they were vegan other than the words on the menu saying so. I'd recommend for sure.

Buffalo "chicken" sandwich (I got mine on their ry bread, instead of the bun it comes with. Out of this world good!

I tried this amazing hidden gem last time I was home from Brooklyn, visiting my parents. I had come to the Trenton Farmers Market with my mom and we were looking for a place to have some lunch. My first reaction as a vegan trained chef from NY...WOW! This place looks awesome! It's always the small places that have a big impact on us! I have my favorites in Brooklyn, NY do they me wrong but when I took a bite of their "Buffalo "Chicken" sandwich Holy Wow! It was one the best I've ever had! I was so stoked to have found another mouth watering vegan place, and only 15 minute driving distance from my parents house in Princeton, NJ! Bravo! Also, my mother got the roasted beet burger and we shared some fries! Overall 10 out of 10! I even had the pleasure of greeting and Meeting the owner! A delightful man, super humble about his awesome creations! Plus not to mention their staff is super helpful and understanding of food allergies! Which is a big plus plus for me as I have a severe tree nut allergy! I was so impressed! I can't wait to go back and try more menu items! Although, I have been craving the same sandwich I tried a few weeks back! So yum! Cheers! From Your New Customer, Chefanie

    Impossible Burger (good)

Conveniently located in the Amish Market all the way in the back, this quaint spot delivers on taste. I was only able to try the impossible burger which came on a very tasteful bun. The texture of the patty has the same consistency as beef and closely tastes like it as well. I enjoyed my meal.l which came with plain ruffles like chips and purple slaw which was also tasty. The prices are decent, $11.00 for the burger. Wait time was about 20 minutes. Don't plan to dine in if you're coming during lunch as it's limited seating 4 tables with 2 chairs. The two staff were friendly and welcoming. I'd come here again to try other items on the menu.

A must try. Amazing for non-vegans because of the spot on meaty/oily flavor, if you have some family members you want to immerse into the world of vegan this is a good spot. This place is so delicious, awesome options. My friends and I got a reuben, cheesesteak, and a Cuban sandwich... all delicious. Vibes are so chill and staff is friendly and sweet. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. photos attached !!! Amazing quality food!!!!!!! VEGAN FOOD FOR THE WIN AS ALWAYS Update: Ordered the tofu scramble And the "lox" of Love bagel

These guys are pretty new at the Trenton Farmer's Market, and I just tried them today for the first time. Awesome! I got the Veuben which came with sweet potato chips and coleslaw, and a cookie. So tasty! The folks who work here are super friendly too, too :)

    The Famous Cheesesteak
    Tina H.

Ordered the cheesesteak and the macaroni and cheese. The cheesesteak has thick chunks, nothing remotely like a cheesesteak. And the macaroni cheese is very watery. There maybe some other good things on the menu but this was a waste of$18 and a 25 min drive. Smh

Veuben Sandwich on pressed roll (they were out of rye bread) and cheesesteak
    Olivia K.

Went here after looking up vegan food in my area and I was pleasantly surprised! I love the fact that they offer vegan cheesesteak, it was so good! I also tried the veuben sandwich which might've had too much sauerkraut but it was good nonetheless. They were out of a lot of items but they explained that they would be closed the next few days which was why they were trying to empty out their inventory. Although that was a little inconvenient I appreciate the fact that they seem to care about the fight against food waste. Will be coming back! :)

Service was pretty basic. I don't know that it was bad but it certainly wasn't extraordinary. My Mom and Aunt both got salads. I got a hot dog plate and a side salad. My Aunt enjoyed her large house salad. My Mom really didn't like her Greek salad. I ended up eating most of it. They were VERY generous with the feta. Maybe too generous. I thought it was fine. I enjoyed my side salad. The hot dog was interesting. As described on the menu, it is two hot dogs, cut in half lengthwise, then griddled, then put on a hoagie roll. It was unusual. Not bad, just different. The hoagie roll was a bit chewier than a standard hot dog bun. The sauerkraut was good. I had asked for mustard too and they brough it on the side. Overall, an OK experience. I don't know that we'll be back if we are in the area again.

Not only was it a delightful experience for my tastebuds, it covered the entire plate. This was one of the few times I couldn't finish my meal. It probably didn't help that I had an order of their amazing bread and butter. I love the vibe at this spot. They serve top notched meals in a casual environment. I have visited this spot at least 10 times and they don't miss. My wife has the Rye & Gochujang Radiatori. I tasted it and it was delish. I never thought to add gochujang to a pasta dish, but I will be doing that in the future. If you have room for something sweet, end your meal by sharing Brioche Doughnuts. We get them every time we visit.

Also loved the smash burger -- delicious and no pretentious frills -- but the fries were the standout; homemade, hearty and crispy. The pumpkin and pretzel casarecce pasta was very tasty as well, and the small-sized portion was plenty. Clearly the chef is talented and takes their work seriously. Given that they don't sell liquor & you can bring your own, the prices are fantastic. Cheapest dinner I've had since the early 2000s lol. They do have some N/A wines, beers and cocktails for those who don't care about booze. I could see this place being perfect for breakfast or lunch because it has beautiful views of the river. We came for dinner, and within 20-30 minutes, it was pitch black outside so we didn't get to enjoy the view. The lighting in the restaurant for dinner is too bright, which takes away from the atmosphere and makes it seem more like a takeout restaurant than upscale dining. Our server was great but the food took way too long to come out. It was about 30 minutes to get a salad. Not sure if they were short-staffed or that's just how it is but because the food was good enough, we will definitely come back to find out!
