I said I wasn't going to do it on this last visit, but I broke down. I'm talking about going to the buffet at Saveurs des Continents, the apparent new name for Buffet des Continents. The newer name means "flavors of the continents" when translated into English and that probably has a better ring to it than the previous name. The dishes here go all the way from 2 to 5 stars, so that averages out to 3.5 stars, which isn't so bad considering how much choice they offer. Mostly I take from the Canadian-North American, Italian, Greek, and Middle Eastern food. They also have a staffed grill where they can cut you a nice little slab of meat. They have a section with Asian food and I also noticed a sushi area, the latter of which is beyond my line of demarcation. This is why, as I've said on the previous review, you will be breaking bread with people from 5 continents. (Should there be a token Australian in attendance, that would take it up to 6 continents.) The service at Saveurs des Continents is fine. Be sure to engage the server in such a way that they don't forget you and won't clean off your table while you are going up to the buffet line to get another plate of food. (I've had that happen up at St. Jerome once, and the place was far from full.) In this case, the server and I spoke Spanish and he didn't mind at all because, after all, this is Montreal and it subscribes to the concept of a "cultural mosaic." Bring it on. There is also a person who will come around to take a drink order, but I go with the included coffee or tea. With all that said, the pricing scheme is fair. It is slightly different depending on the time of the day and day of the week. The pricing includes a gratuity to the tune of about 12.5%, if I recall correctly, that they distribute to the employees. You are free to give your server a little bit more if you choose to. So, in revisiting Saveurs des Continents, I'm going to go with 4 stars. They offer a lot of food choices across a broad spectrum, fair pricing, decent service, and a unique brand of quirkiness and diversity that you don't easily forget. Also, with REM joining the Metro system and Exo commuter trains, this newer light rail system can take you from the city to the south shore. Your stop will be the Panama station and, from there, there is a pedestrian underpass and path that goes to the shopping center with this buffet. One thing is that it will be easier to get back home with the light rail and not think of having to adjust your tilt steering wheel upward. Finally, if this American manages to come in here once on each visit to Montreal area, then this Saveurs des Continents is more realistically a 4 star sort of place. read more

When I visit my parents this is officially our go to restaurant on a Sunday for brunch. For what you pay, you cannot go wrong!! I never waited long since the space is huge and the restaurant can accommodate hundreds of customer, no joke! You get in and pay right away. If you order a drink you will pay the server. Coffee is free on Sunday and is quite decent. The salad bar even has smoked salmon. There is a charcuterie section with cheese, genoa, ham and another type of cold cut. There are pastries, fresh fruit, desserts galore, Italian, Chinese, sushi, carving section (delicious pepper sauce), Canadian, pho and tom yum section and the list goes on and on and on. read more

This place is always insanely jammed packed! Not sure how to rate it.. always bumping into people when picking out my food at the buffets stations. It's crowded and chaotic .. that's why I knock off one point for that. The wait was extremely long ! We waited about 40 minutes to get a table not fun! Otherwise, food is always fresh and delicious.. I'm shocked for buffet food it's really good! They got all our faves from the asian soup station/ sushi's are okayish lol they do roll it on the spot but lack the creamy textures I like in sushi so My belly skipped the sushi... they had poutine with already made bowls just add the sauce to it really good. They had fried crispy chicken super tender inside and crispy on the outside. The got a cash alcohol bar where you can order what you like that was fun! I went there for Brunch for an early Mother's Day celebration with family. The food was okay, poutine was horrible and the steam dumplings were probably bought or made by the terrible cooks who aren't even Chinese. The desserts were good, except they don't got any eclairs, only baklava, strawberry cheesecakes, chocolate/strawberry cake, Jellos was crowded with kids, so can't get anything of it, the coconut balls was extremely sweet, good enough for a chewy sugar rush to your taste buds. The service was fair, no complains there. Didn't know who was my waiter because everyone was wearing black t-shirts. The ambiance was quite noisy with so many kids running around unattended without their parents. Some kids pluck fruits off the piles with their nasty fingers...but one of the parents came and yank them away from the fruit pile.... read more

What a great buffet. On the tail end of my Quebec road trip my family and I decided to have dinner Sunday night at Buffet des continents. We figured it would be a good idea since kids are free and there is fruit and veggies we can eat so we can detox post vacation. The atmosphere of the restaurant was very nice, from an Eiffel tower base designed into the eating area to the hanging ceiling lights. We arrived right at 430 when they start serving dinner and saw the staff have a meeting. Seemed very professional and with good team work. The place was very clean. The food was amazing too. We were shocked to see the stand with freshly steamed mussels and stone crab legs. I can remember a beachside place I bought stone crabs at in South Beach Miami. The place charged me over 8 bucks for 2 little claws. Here I can honestly say the crab was just as fresh and tasty and the fact that it's unlimited was amazing. A grill section had a server making fresh gyros and they tasted fantastic. He declined when I offered to tip. There was Vietnamese pho offered with optional sriracha sauce that tasted pretty good. Smoked meat at the meat carving area was also good. Linguini and pasta with mussels in marinara sauce was delicious. Everything we had was very good except the fruits which were a bit weak compared to the rest of the offerings. They seemed a couple days old and soggy and variety was slightly limited. The ice cream was also good though the bubble gum flavor isn't for everyone. I'm jealous and sad that this great restaurant chain, Buffets des Continents is only in Canada. Special items: baklava and cheesecake. Would I go back? Surprisingly, YES! I love their pizzas, spaghetti, chicken/gyro pita, and especially the Greek fried potatoes! I am big fan of this chain and have been going to the St-Jerome location regularly since its opening about 3 years ago so I am extremely excited to have this buffet right next door now! In order to provide a fair assessment, I waited to write my review after now going 3 times in the past month. I went on opening day September 19 and it was big chaos as you can imagine there are thousands of people lined up, not enough food and every single person working there is a brand new hire so you can't expect the best just yet. I returned a week later for weekday supper and most recently for Sunday brunch and can say this place has the potential to be as great as the other branches. Good food, lots of variety and pricing is very reasonable and frankly unbeattable for what you get. Yes there are long lines, this is normal considering it's the hottest place in town. What's annoying lately is that they don't allow groups to be seated until everyone is accounted for however as soon as the hype dies down it'll be much smoother for everyone. TIP, try to go at opening of lunch or supper to beat the lines. So if lunch opens at 11, try to be there for 11 or 11:30. The food varies based on lunch or dinner and day of the week. I noticed this location has more seafood than St-Jerome and always offers 4 types of sushi versus just 2 at the other location, otherwise everything else is pretty similar. Brunch is my favorite as there are eggs and omelettes made to order, pancakes, french toast, delicious breakfast sausages, bacon and all your other staples like carved meats, chinese food, seafood, pastas, fresh fruits, desserts etc. If you were to go to a regular breakfast restaurant you'd pay the same price and get almost nothing. Kids under 12 eat free so it's very family friendly and again unbeattable compared to any other restaurants nearby. For everyone complaining that the service is slow, keep in mind that this restaurant seats 650 people and serves THOUSANDS of people for every meal. Everyone is also new at their job so give them a break. The staff which is comprised of over 100 employees is already working as hard and fast as they can and unfortunately during opening week there was a huge lack of ressources as many workers that were just hired did not show up. I have a family member who worked during the first 2 weeks and the hours were from 9 am to 11 pm at night, sometimes later. It is very hard labor in the kitchen, prepping and cleaning for minimum wage and believe me, they are pumping out as much food as physically possible to serve everyone. All meals are also prepared fresh daily. The owner of this establishement described it as a food FACTORY, not a restaurant. Also just a note, the tips are shared amongst all staff, not just the servers, so maybe this will change the way you tip - even if your server wasn't awesome, everyone else working behind the scenes is deserving too. In all I strongly recommend this place for casual lunches or suppers, group events or parties as there's something to please everyone. You will not find this much selection and freshness elsewhere. read more

This a good place to if you dont have dinner ready in time and you have no clue on what to eat. One of the best buffet in term of all type for everybody. You have nice pho bar (highlight of this location), the broth is tasty and flavourful, very surprising so good job to the cooling crew!! Is it not all the franchise who has that pho station. You have all the food you want, from indian, beef strips DIY grill, fish, pizza, souvlaki station etc. Overall the food is good but on the salty side which is not the best for my health. The dessert station is disappointing, very generic cakes. Overall, good place to eat and price is reasonable. During weekend, there is a seafood station like crawfish. The brunch isn't so bad on a Sunday morning but I wish they could have more choices in the menu. That way, people cant try everything and they will come back to try the rest the next time. I like that you can choose to eat a regular meals for brunch especially if your typical eggs, pancakes and hash brown aren't your type. The quality of the food available is not too shabby either. The decorations are varied, there are 5 countries decoration in the room. The service is pretty good. The staffs made sure you enjoyed your stay in the buffet and the water is always refilled. The coffee and black teas are free of charge and you get refilled. The food plates are always emptied out of our tables before we come back with new plates. Overall, the place is decent. I might give this place another try for dinner time when the lineup isnt so intense. For the ones who come in groups, please come earlier. I have one word: mashed potatoes. (Technically that's two words but you get the point) They had a great variety and were very accommodating for vegetarians! The price was reasonable (20$ incl. tax) and the staff was friendly and efficient. My only complaint is the desert bar. Nothing was refilled and the options were very limited. One of the three or four popular buffet places on the south shore. This one is the most popular one. We went on lunch time on a Sunday afternoon, around 1:30pm. The good: Platters of food always full. Typical choices used to in all buffets. Sushi bar. Cooks for specific kind of food available. Good waitress service (and friendly). Old plates did not stay on table for more than 30 seconds. Design wonderful (looks like you are eating outside). Makeup artist available for kids on weekends (so parents can enjoy the food in peace?) Lots of space between the tables to walk to buffet and back. Food good. The bad: Still way too much breakfast food for that hour, making the choices for lunch/dinner limited. Sushi had NO taste. Lighting VERY low, so if the sun is bright outside, we cannot see anything. Desserts area is just plainly awful: Choices limited and basics, platters were empty, pudding tasted powdery, pudding chômeur and chocolate turnover DANGEROUSLY hot (I actually burned my mouth, and my finger holding the plate at the bottom getting back to the table). Waitress at some point was so eager to take the plate away that my father in-law was bringing his last bite to his mouth that she took it. Place can be very busy. Lines outside waiting on weekend evenings. Most pricey buffet place on the south shore. The desserts area really tarnished my experience with the buffet. The server we had cleared our plates the second we were done and filled our water glasses often. She was very pleasant and really was hustling. The food is not good. It's exactly what you expect of buffet-fare. There is something for everyone to try but the quality is not very good and most things taste pre-made and not very fresh. There are so many options and a large salad bar. There are meat carving stations, pho, sushi, Italian, grilled meats and comfort food. The fried chicken tasted like old oil which was the biggest disappointment to me. The desserts were interesting but not great and the fruits did not look fresh or ripe. I mean, it is a buffet so you can't go in with high expectations but it was fun to go and try a few things (on a day that it wasn't busy). Well, I can't say I enjoyed it that much. I mean, there was a huge line up to get in and once we got our table, we where so hungry that I don't think we really get the chance to enjoy our food. All we wanted was to eat. For that part, they didn't dissapoint with the choices. They were filling the food so fast, I don't think any of it was sitting for too long. That a plus! Absolutely regret going there or at least trying the seafood. Was there in a busy weekend that satisfied me about freshness of their food however my stomach did not agree my eyes. Had a lot of difficulty in the following days and skipped two working days as my body was recovering from food poisoning. For the preparation of the food priority was to the amount of food but not the quality. Taste was replaced by oil and spices and cleanness was not a priority either. Not going there anymore and don't recommend it to those I like to see healthy and fresh! Came here during lunch and I was actually surprised by the variety of food you can get for 12.99$: from soups, pizza, sushi, chinese stir fried dishes, etc. They even serve stir fried clams and mussels for that price!!! As for the taste, it's pretty decent for a buffet at first, especially when you're starving. However, like any other buffet, after being half full, you start to realize the food actually isn't that good, but for 12.99$, what more can you ask for? The service is very good. Very impressed with this buffet, service was great from start to finish. We walked in with a party of 7 and was quickly sat even though the giant restaurant was full. We spent the day touring Montréal from Washington, DC and really wanted comfort food, this was a good one stop for all. My son loved the spare ribs, my daughter loved the mashed potatoes and gravy and my parents were very impressed with everything. There were a lot of selections and food for everyone. After my last visit, 3 stars is more than they deserve, but I am adding in a star for the two times I went prior. My first visit the food was good standard buffet food. The second time I went for brunch and it was actually quite good, lots of fun options. The last time I went, it was evident that the standards were slipping. Everything that was suppose to be crispy was soggy, many pans were left with the dregs (not replaced, just left to dry onto the pan), the shrimps were so over cooked that they actually turned to paste in your mouth. I was sad because the idea is a really fun one, a few dishes from all over the world (cooked for the French/Canadian palate), nothing too exotic. It is a shame that it has lost that new restaurant enthusiasm and is left with sub par buffet grub. I don't think that I will be returning, too many great options to be eating here. read more

This restaurant is lucky to get a 2 star from me. A very noisy place with undisciplined parents with kids that run between your legs in the isle. Incredible. The food? Nothing to brag about especially at $16. a pop. At that price, it should have been exceptional, it was NOT. An ordinary buffet like everywhere else at half the price. Very, very disappointed. My family of four and I were visiting South Shore and this buffet was recommended to us for evening Dining. Based on that recommendation, we decided to Dine there.The food was quite reasonable, however we were extremely disappointed about the interaction with the manager. This comment is based on the fact that the floor manager ("Alexandre G-labrie") missinformed us about what the specific dish contains ( we asked due religous purposes ) but he instead of informing himself before giving us a response he just said don't you worry it is a vegetarian dish even though we later found out that it contained PORK !! then while i confronted him to his mistake he rudely responded he cannot conpensate anything and basically he told us "sh*t happens" ! we then asked if we could speak to his superior at the Restaurant and he confirmed that he is the only manager available and then he told my family and I to just pay our bill and get out of the property ( couldn't get any ruder ). This Place definitely needs to do some serious changes in the management team or else not only they are losing clients and i'll make sure I write my review in every single review site such Yelp, Tripadviser and also tell all my friends about this unforgetteable experience so they AVOID going to this place. Bottom line is Food might be O.K. But Customer service is seriously lacking and that's the main key to get returning clients .
