I was told he had just come in and was not ready to be adopted yet he had to be vetted. I kept going back to look at him was truly love at first site for me and he was so cute. After leaving and arriving home I looked at the website and there was the kitten I wanted - up for adoption!!!! I live far enough away to not go back same day. Was planning on going back today (Sunday) Well he is no longer on the website so I suppose he was adopted. Very disappointed.

Meet and greet was easy and everyone hog along wonderfully so the adoption was finalized and we could not be happier. I started volunteering with this rescue because I believe in the cause and the process and the people in this rescue! If I had any reservations I'd be volunteering elsewhere Most of the negative reviews are from people who were not chose for a particular dog because of the dog's specific needs or personality or because they were unsuitable adopters (dogs are not vaccinated or spay/neutered, lied on the application, etc). Sometimes people have their heart set on a popular dog and it's hard for fosters but they will pick the absolute best home possible so they have the best chance at a FOREVER home possible. Some people don't want to admit they aren't the best fit and retaliate in the reviews so please read negative reviews with a grain of salt. Talk to the volunteers who are also adopters. There is a reason for their loyalty. It's because this organization is amazing and the leaders and volunteers are as well!

Tara from Empty Cages Collective helped me find the LOVE of my life, my main man Steve! I was…read morelooking to adopt an adult cat, and I emailed Empty Cages after finding them on Petfinder.com. Tara emailed me back and we scheduled a time for me to come visit the shelter, which is not too far away from my apartment. Its located pretty close to McCarren Park. Anyway, i got there and was given a tour of all the cats (along with some recovering urban wildlife - like a possum!), with the opportunity to hold, hug, and play with each of the cats, to see who I was compatible with. I was instantly drawn to Steve, a 7-year-old handsome (in my eyes) gray fellow who had a funny stinkface, and a motorboat purr, who had sadly been in the shelter for a few months after his owner passed away. He wasn't that outgoing, but I found myself coming back to him at the end of the tour, and putting in an application for him. A few days later after checking with my references, Tara emailed to let me know that he was all mine, and they just had to take him back to the vet to give him the go-ahead. I wasn't sure how he, an adult cat, was going to react to being outside of a cage and living with a stranger in a new space. He was nervous and hid for about 2 weeks, but since, we have become BESTIES and his personality has blossomed into a totally new cat, a personality that didn't come through at the shelter, but that I'm so grateful to have in my companion. He is the best, and is proof that we should follow our gut, and that even after being stuck in a shelter, if given a loving, caring home and owner, your older cat with love you and thrive in his new environment. Tara and Empty Cages have been so helpful to me, a first time cat owner. I have followed up with them since when I needed to go to the vet for an eye infection, and they gave me great suggestions for Steve. Please support them! They are doing great things for animals and their new owners.

The entire process was pretty painless...filled out an online application, notified my personal references they would get a call, and then met up with Natalia who was fostering Whoopi. We brought our GP over the first time to see how they'd get along (which they did), and ended up picking up Whoopi for good a week later (we had to gather a few more items before bringing Whoopi home). Overall would highly recommend ECC, Natalia was a pleasure to work with, and you can tell how much she cares for and loves the animals she fosters.

Stephanie was very patient, kind, and helpful. I find the entire team very warm and helpful. I initially came to adopt a kitten I had rescued, but sadly received the heartbreaking news that his health had declined. The staff allowed me to see him and say goodbye, and their empathy in that moment meant more than I can express. After spending some time interacting with the cats there, another little one chose me, and now she is coming home with me. Thank you to the entire team for the care, patience, and love you show every day. I am truly grateful for both the support during a very emotional moment and for helping me bring home my new family member.

First impression: this place is a thousand times better than the Manhattan location. The space is huge and squeaky clean. I felt like I was walking into a cat palace. The girls at the front desk are super helpful and friendly, like they genuinely want you to find your purrfect match. Even though I was numero uno on the waitlist, we still had to cool our heels for about 10 minutes. Not the end of the world. Once we got in, it was cat heaven. We got to meet the cats - so many cuties! The staff were awesome, sharing each cat's life story like they were on a reality show. We also got some playtime with the potential new additions. Definitely recommend coming to this ACC location!

Upon walking into this store you're immersed in a dog's dream - rows of handmade felted toys resembling various types of foods, in all different sizes. The cashier was so kind and patient as we claimed the entirety of the store as our personal playground & even won the heart of my dog, providing her with treats for being so well behaved! They are also designed to be destroyed I believe? I might be wrong. Once they rip it apart you can return the toy to the store for 20% off your next toy. On my first visit my pup was still very small so I decided on a rainbow unicorn with a squeaker. My pup enjoyed the toy very much and eventually tore out the squeaker which was a surprise since she never destroys her toys. Second time visiting was after my second pups vaccines. This time we got the shumai toy. It comes with a little bowl and 3 stuffed pieces. Perfect as a little snuffle toy to hide food and play fetch! On this trip I also met Pudding a Pomeranian and learned about local rescues that helped smaller dogs. My life can't accommodate a dog long-term, but I love dogs, and so I have fostered several with…read moreBAFN, each for 1 week to a month. On the weekends, BAFN picks them up from my apartment and takes them to the adoption events around the city. It is difficult to let them go when they get adopted, but I am of course happy for them when they do. I feel that staying in a home instead of in a kennel gives them a better chance for success as a pet recovering from what was in most cases some kind of trauma. It is amazing to care for a sick or sad dog who might have been euthanized, see it get bigger and healthier and happier, watch it remember how to play, and then wish it well when BAFN it finds a permanent home. No doubt in my mind I do this for selfish reasons - but you know its a good system when everyone benefits. This is an organization that makes you have hope for humanity. Laurie is tireless, though overworked, and absolutely dedicated to the animals. I'm grateful for having discovered BAFN and highly recommend working with them.
