While she was inside I noticed a window at the far end of the building with a sign that simply read "TAKE OUT ONLY". I thought if I went to the window, she would come out with a second order of whatever they had. We she emerged with chips and cookies. I asked about the take out and she said there was nothing inside and she purposely looked for ready to eat food. I was delighted when the lady at the window said she sold fried chicken and potato wedges. I thought a 6 piece would fill us up and was surprised with the size and quality. Particularly after a recent bad super oily bucket from KFC. The chicken here was large breast, thigh and legs. We sat in the parking lot until it was all gone. I'll be sure to drop in again to this hidden little gem of a Take out.

The store is more "grocery" and less "convenience store" thanks to the large selection and the lack of large grocery stores in this part of Maine, which is right next to the Canadian border. Canned goods, candy, dairy, deli, lots of wine and beer plus the sort of automotive items you might find in a 7-Eleven including oil, anti-freeze and gasoline cans. They were stocking the pizza display as we arrived. They also sell lottery tickets. Plenty of parking out front. This Sobey is located up on the hill close to Costco. I was surprise this Sobey is called 'Extra' and was not sure why. When I walked in i was pleasantly surprise to see how big this Sobey really was! They have a huge variety of food! On the western side, they got chicken, ribs, beef, pot pies, Salad, soup, pizza and most of them are hot and ready! The cool part of this place is that they have courses for Cooking! they have a nice set up for a class room setting of 15 people or more. Today I felt like their chicken, hot meal, and salad meal for $18.99. Not a bad deal, it will definitely feed 3 people comfortably. For the hot meal i got their mac & cheese and slaw for the salad. Yeah, that's kind of a neutral report, we know. But it is a grocery, albeit one we've found to be well stocked with a lot of products, reasonably priced, clean, and with helpful employees. There wasn't exactly a gourmet ingredient selection, but understandable for such a tiny town at the easternmost point of the US of A. The store provided the essentials so we didn't have to drive all the way back to Machias, but I wouldn't recommend this as a "main" shopping stop. If you're visiting Lubec, just make the stops at a bigger, regular supermarket in Machias. Otherwise this IGA is perfect for last minute, forgotten essentials.
