The quality of the meat is the main draw here for me, it is the best spot locally for that. The staff are always nice and they keep the lines moving. I cook with a lot of weird ingredients, so I can't get everything here, but I do prioritize getting my meat and a few other things here.

The store has been here near 40 years. My friend Dena who lives across the street from Bob's...I mean Jd's always calls it Bob's, so be patient with me. This store first came to my attention when it was in the news a lot, after the Price-rite chain came to town. But that is ancient history now. Anyway, after a short visit with my friend, I hobbled across the street to...Jd's. Yes, very friendly people there, and helpful. There was not a large selection of fresh produce, but what there was looked fresh and the prices were very compatible with my shopping experiences earlier this week. I bought a beautiful apple for 54¢. Dena always brags on their meats. There were some very nice cuts of beef, some sausages, some pork chops, wings, also some salads. I'm not a big beef eater, so I asked if they had ground pork. The woman said we can grind it for you. I said I'd like a pound. It was nicely wrapped in white butcher paper. The freezer section had a lot of frozen meats, things that had been prepared into patties and meatballs, all ready to take home to your freezer. On my way to the checkout, I spied a bag of dry large lima beans, so I grabbed that, too. I've been making a lot of soups lately. On the downside, the store is small and parking is street only. The upside there is that they do deliver, citywide, I think. And there is a website. The big plus for me was the ground pork I bought there. When I got home, I unwrapped it in order to divide into two half-pound containers for freezing. Beautiful. I have never seen such lean and good looking ground pork. At $3.82 for my package, it might have been a few cents more than the fatty ground pork I used to buy. I'll definitely go back to Jd's for that. If you eat seasonally and value keeping your money in the local community, this is a great place to do both. Things I love: Great deals on seasonal produce, especially for members (I signed up on my second visit and boy is membership worth it!). High quality meats. Plenty of locally grown and made options with clear signage. The bulk section is especially great - bring your own containers and you can get some excellent savings on dried fruits, grains, rice, nuts, candies, beans, spices, loose-leaf tea, and more. Sometimes they do tasting days where you can try samples of the pre-made food items. Non-food things: Staff is all friendly and helpful. Parking is easy. They have an electric vehicle charging station in the lot. There is a "little free library" style shelf at the front to share books; there's always new stuff to read and often a selection of cookbooks to try out. Some prices are higher than at other stores so I do shop in multiple places depending on my list. For anything I want in bulk, local, or organic, this is where I get it. Plus, people here are just nice. Staff, customers, everybody. The vibe here is positive and comfortable and it's just a nice place to be.

Courtney is a great teacher, having first a little multiple…read morechoice quiz with little prizes(Today the prizes were vegan lollipops.) then showing a vegan cake being baked on a You Tube video, giving us tasters of two differently made vegan chocolate chocolate chip cookies and lastly supplying an assortment of topping to decorate our (made by Courtney) mini vegan chocolate cakes. Our chocolate cakes are about 4 1/2-5 inches in diameter. The topping choices were: fresh raspberries and blackberries, colored sprinkles, pecans and chocolate pieces shaped like 1/2 footballs. Courtney first made the dough to make one of the chocolate chocolate chip cookies. It's only a 90 minute class, so that bowl of dough went back to the kitchen to be baked off. Courtney then made fresh vegan vanilla buttercream, just to show us how easy it is to make as a vegan topping.. Since it was not a full class we were all offered a second cake to decorate with the vegan buttercreams and the other toppings.

Definitely one of my favourite convenience stores in the area and now that it's right next door to one of my favorite restaurants in the area - Xi'an (try the lamb cumin) - I come here even more often. They're pretty friendly and they've got a pretty eclectic crowd coming in and out. Always busy. A little bit run-down but maybe that helps keep their prices down because they're definitely cheaper than 7-Eleven. It loses a star for the high prices but is a solid 4, and is still there, churning out late-night goodies to college kids and locals, not far from the wonderful Seoul Garden and Black Forest Saddler, a horse-seat shop. From 2020 on we used to get food, snacks, beer and other stuff here very regularly...like three times a day sometimes. We got dinner from here at least three times a week and we loved it. At some point a new owner took over and a lot things went downhill. We eventually had to stop going there all together because of all the mistakes and lack of accountability. We recently tried them again and was happy with the food. Well, that was short lived. The last three times we've placed an order online it hasn't even been started by the time they said it would be ready and we have to wait. In addition to that, it has been totally wrong with missing items each time. It happened again this morning, our order was missing two orders of hash browns. I called the listed number in an attempt to get a refund (because this is the third time and it's adding up) and it's off the hook, busy signal. This isn't new. The kitchen literally takes the phone receiver off the cradle so that they won't receive phone orders. My husband has witnessed it in person. Apparently they don't want to cook. Since the renovation the phone is digital, but they still turn it off. This has been happening since the new owner took over and he won't do anything about it. This is strange to me. Doesn't he want business? Anyways, sorry for the long review. We can't get food here anymore (again) because times are rough (again again) and I'm not going to buy from a shop that won't refund for wrongly prepared or even completely missing items.
