I spoke to Mauricio (sp?) who spent a lot of time with me on the phone - going over options, explaining the differences between different types of facilities, listening to the particulars surrounding our relative's condition, letting us know what to watch out for in general. Golden Road is bit above our relative's budget but I really appreciated Mauricio's professionalism, candidness, and especially the time he took to share his knowledge with us -- even after knowing that we would be seeking something less expensive than Golden Road. Thank you so much Mauricio!

Their knowledge base is very detailed and they communicate thoroughly and well which gives you the utmost confidence in their services. The place has an extremely quiet setting which is great for rest and peace; with a great surrounding neighborhood, you can totally feel how safe and secure the place is; very clean and organized. You couldn't expect a better environment and staff to help out with your loved one.

My grandmother who recently underwent extensive surgery is now staying here. Thank goodness she is…read moreable to communicate with us whether or not she is being mistreated or not. So far, I have no complaints when it comes to their care! Therefore, 5 Stars for the nurses there. But.... As far as professionalism, NEGATIVE all stars!!! My mother and uncle used to be her caregivers till they were no longer able to since she had her surgery, they are there for all of her doctor appointments which is several times a month, they arrive early. Might I add, they live about 45 minutes away, and with traffic, that is about an hour or sometimes more. Keep in mind, Vista Cove and the Hospital she visits is only 15 minutes apart. On two separate occasions the people that prepare her to be transported to the hospital WERE LATE!! I am not talking 5 or 15 minutes, I am talking 45 minutes and 1.5 hours!!!! both times the doctor refused to see my Grandmother, so both times we were forced to reschedule!!! The 2nd time they were ridiculously late, my uncle had called them, they said they were having car trouble, whatever... okay so, did you ever think to use another company to transport her? that would be the RESPONSIBLE thing to do! I am a pretty understanding person, I know that car troubles happen, but what are the chances of two separate occurrences weeks apart?!!!! that to me is no excuse!!! someone was slacking off there. So as soon as I hear of this happening again, I contact the MANAGER named "ROSE" She informs me that she was super "embarrassed" of that incident and she apologizes, but she was NOT sympathetic, I could sense in her sentiment that it was NOT genuine and she was rushing me off the phone, to the point where she almost hung up, and I had to tell her to wait! I told her that this was the second time this happened and its unacceptable, once is okay, but this is affecting everyone, its not just about the transportation vehicle, this is about responsibility. It was HER responsibility to not only make sure my Grandma is well cared for, but also to see to it that she she makes it to her appt on time! and you know what Rose told me?.... "Well its not just your grandma, we have other patients we need to drop off too!" Me: "I understand that, so are you saying you are continually dropping them off late too?" Rose: "No, they are not late" Me: "Okay so why is my grandma late all the time?" Rose: "Like I said, things happen, if this is a problem then you need to find another company to transport her" (in a rather rude tone) Me: "So you're saying I need to hire another company to transport my grandma?!" (returning the rude sentiment) Rose: "No , we will find another company to transport her" (at this point, her rudeness subsided) Me: Okay well who is going to let me know as soon as this happens? I want that person to give me a call directly. So, it turns out, the person in charge of transportation is named "Andrew," he is supposed to give me a call. I will update this on her next visit to the doctor and see if any changes are implemented! Bottom line, the manager Rose was not willing to help... only as my tone changed, then she stepped it up. Very unpleasant to deal with.

It will offer people who are moving into their next phase of life an opportunity to live in a comfortable family atmosphere. We have known the Kiss family for many years. Adriana took care of my mother-in-law for 10 years. We are deeply indebted to Adriana for her loving, kind and gentle care for my mother-in-law. She watched over her carefully for her health and safety. She cared for my mother-in-law in a way that a family member could not. Adriana genuinely likes people and cares deeply for the elderly. I can't think of any other place I would choose to go when I need care and assistance in my daily life. I recommend Adriana's care and Home Away Assisted Living to you without hesitation.

The atmosphere is very warm and Adriana and her family are wonderful. There was a point where my grandma was in a larger facility which was awful because it wasn't clean, and you never knew which nurse you'd get (if you could find one). At Home Away it's just the opposite; My grandma's room, bathroom, and the entire home is kept spotless; and the communication is always with the same nurse, Adriana. It feels less like a 'facility' and more like a home. They've even got a little dog. My grandma loves having an animal companion! Adriana treats my grandma as if she was family. I feel like Adriana and her family are now a little extension of our own family. Adriana is dedicated to being patient, kind and caring to my grandma. She's proud of her business and wants her residents to have the best experience possible. Now that in person visits aren't allowed, Adriana is great with communication and has been helpful with getting my grandma on video calls. I feel secure knowing my gram is safe there during the COVID-19 pandemic. I would highly recommend Home Away Assisted Living to anyone looking for great care for their elderly loved ones.

I've just read a review by an LK H dated June 3, 2016. They said that the care is "unbelievable…read moreinadequate". They mention that they were aware that there is not a residing doctor here and that one does come but once a week. They say that their Dad had this bad experience and yet they decided to let their mom stay here and have the same devastation as their Dad. One has to ask themself why in the world would one continue to have their parents stay here when they knew what the place was like? They said that BOTH of their parents were at this facility for years. It clearly sounds like they took no responsibility for the care of their parents and actually made the decision to leave their parents here despite their "apparent concerns". Something is suspicious about this review. Or sadly even more suspicious is the character of LK H. Now I fully understand that people have their own personal thoughts as to the type of care they want but to continue to "accept" the current level of care by leaving their relative there but then complain about it tells me there is some underlying issue that is not being exposed. I personally have seen families move their relatives to another facility or to care for them themselves and that's understandable. And I've seen families deny needed additional care for their parents and allowed them to suffer. And sadly I've heard of families that deny additional services for their parents so that they can keep the money for themselves. Maybe this was LK H's issue. I can only speculate. I've lived here for six years. What I've discovered is that the staff here is incredibly caring and nice. They go above and beyond to make the residents comfortable and especially safe. They actually listen to the residents and make great efforts to accommodate them. There is also a large volunteer community amongst the residents who hold bible studies, visit and assist the residents in skilled nursing, provide bi-weekly entertainment and shows and even teach table tennis classes. There are Mah-Jong and ukulele groups. We have plays put on by residents and resident talent shows. When residents themselves get involved in the community it reflects a healthy, vibrant atmosphere. People want to get involved. This is not the case in other retirement communities that I've researched before deciding to move here. Also, there are tons of activities organized by Atherton themselves. You can attend exercise and stretch classes, Tai-Chi classes, monthly lunch and dinner excursions, movie nights and trips to the theater, bingo, dance classes and Atherton even organizes domestic and international trips. We went to Japan last November. There are many other activities and educational seminars that I'm not mentioning. All I'm saying is do your homework. Visit many retirement communities and see what they offer before making the decision to move. Understand your financial status to make a good choice to find the right fit for you and your loved ones.
