My grandmother who recently underwent extensive surgery is now staying here. Thank goodness she is able to communicate with us whether or not she is being mistreated or not. So far, I have no complaints when it comes to their care! Therefore, 5 Stars for the nurses there. But.... As far as professionalism, NEGATIVE all stars!!! My mother and uncle used to be her caregivers till they were no longer able to since she had her surgery, they are there for all of her doctor appointments which is several times a month, they arrive early. Might I add, they live about 45 minutes away, and with traffic, that is about an hour or sometimes more. Keep in mind, Vista Cove and the Hospital she visits is only 15 minutes apart. On two separate occasions the people that prepare her to be transported to the hospital WERE LATE!! I am not talking 5 or 15 minutes, I am talking 45 minutes and 1.5 hours!!!! both times the doctor refused to see my Grandmother, so both times we were forced to reschedule!!! The 2nd time they were ridiculously late, my uncle had called them, they said they were having car trouble, whatever... okay so, did you ever think to use another company to transport her? that would be the RESPONSIBLE thing to do! I am a pretty understanding person, I know that car troubles happen, but what are the chances of two separate occurrences weeks apart?!!!! that to me is no excuse!!! someone was slacking off there. So as soon as I hear of this happening again, I contact the MANAGER named "ROSE" She informs me that she was super "embarrassed" of that incident and she apologizes, but she was NOT sympathetic, I could sense in her sentiment that it was NOT genuine and she was rushing me off the phone, to the point where she almost hung up, and I had to tell her to wait! I told her that this was the second time this happened and its unacceptable, once is okay, but this is affecting everyone, its not just about the transportation vehicle, this is about responsibility. It was HER responsibility to not only make sure my Grandma is well cared for, but also to see to it that she she makes it to her appt on time! and you know what Rose told me?.... "Well its not just your grandma, we have other patients we need to drop off too!" Me: "I understand that, so are you saying you are continually dropping them off late too?" Rose: "No, they are not late" Me: "Okay so why is my grandma late all the time?" Rose: "Like I said, things happen, if this is a problem then you need to find another company to transport her" (in a rather rude tone) Me: "So you're saying I need to hire another company to transport my grandma?!" (returning the rude sentiment) Rose: "No , we will find another company to transport her" (at this point, her rudeness subsided) Me: Okay well who is going to let me know as soon as this happens? I want that person to give me a call directly. So, it turns out, the person in charge of transportation is named "Andrew," he is supposed to give me a call. I will update this on her next visit to the doctor and see if any changes are implemented! Bottom line, the manager Rose was not willing to help... only as my tone changed, then she stepped it up. Covid-19 Outbreak not being reported to all family's of current residents. Current employees are being forced to work and not allowed to self-quarantine due to claims of low staffing issues. While licensed employees stayed home to protect their loved ones. Other staff members, predominately Spanish speaking are being forced to report to work. Facility has not been sanitized to re-operation standards. Workers have not been provided Covid-19 pay for their non-stop dedication since March. If you know of a loved one at this facility, please inform yourself. Call and demand answers. The workers here are a tremendous and dedicated team. Help them out if you can. read more

The only reason this place gets a star is because it's required by Yelp to give something. Vista Cove now called Royal Vista San Gabriel Assisted Living is absolute filth. Came to visit a few times with a friend and there are Bugs (roaches) everywhere for starters!!!! Might as well be a roach motel. The patients are taken care of at bare minimum. After speaking with some of staff and finding out that there is no real training, no set standards, no consistency... I would never leave my loved ones here. If the caretakers/CNAs are here only for a check then you're SOL. The food looks gross, no real effort put in to it. Obviously maintenance is having a hard time with well... maintenance. High turnover rate, found out from an employee who has since moved on that the place isn't even up to code, it's mickey moused enough to pass. WARNING DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS PLACE. They should tear it down and rebuild it. It's out dated, dark and depressing and I really don't know how it's still open for business. People who work here are the worst. They frown and get antsy when you ask them for assistance. They could care less about your loved ones. Money is their driving force. I understand that they need the money, but if you're going to work at a nursing home, hospice or any health care profession for that matter, at least have the compassion and patience for your patients. You're here to aid them to health, mentally and physically. Otherwise, don't even bother with this type of work. My grandmother was admitted to this place after multiple surgeries and was hoping for betterment, even if it would be short-lived. Whenever she tried asking for assistance, it was either ignored or put off until it was too late. When she needed to go to the restroom, I asked for help 3 times but none was given by the staff for over 20 minutes and my aunt had to help her get out of bed. At first, I didn't want to push it with the time --being the considerate person I am because people can get busy-- but people here are in need of assistance 24/7 considering critical conditions. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable! I walked in by accident looking for placement for a family member. Turns out I was in need of a skilled nursing not assisted living. The administrator and marketing director met with me and took their time to assess my needs and educated me on my options. I really appreciate the kindness they displayed towards me. My grandmother has been living here on the assisted living side for a little while now and we visit her every chance we get. The staff is friendly and we notice changes to the facility daily. They used to be called Vista Cove and now Royal Vista. A few times that we've visited our grandma she always speaks highly about a certain person which is Edmund who is the maintenance and housekeeping leader. Extremely busy and running around the facility, Edmund never fails to stop and ask how we are and if everything is okay with us and my grandmother and her room. We are pleased to have our grandmother in the care of someone like Edmund and the staff here at Royal Vista! read more

Do pick this place if you want your love one to die ASAP. This hospice facility will achieve that without hesitant. In fact, you don't need to ask them, they will do it for you and make sure you don't stop them. They will convince you that your love one is in pain and agitated, and the only way to stop that is more morphine and tranquilizer. Yes, they are so right that right after they deliver the medication the pain and agitation stopped. In fact, the heart stopped also. Do your research first before you let the pailitary doctor convinced you to sign up the hospice. However, if you want your love one to die fast legally, then go sign up the hospice. read more

I would not recommend this facility to anyone. EVER. Under any circumstance. I had my Grandfather transferred here to transition into hospice, turned into the worst decision and mistake of my life. There was no one there to receive him or to even check on him for hours to determine if he was even alive. I found a CNA to help me get him situated 3 hours later. Also, there was a man on the floor for 15 minutes trying to get someone to help him up. Of course NO ONE be found. My husband ran around the entire facility trying to get someone to help this elderly man. I immediately decided to get my grandfather out of there. This place is a joke and definitely should not be trusted with a loved one. God forbid we did not find help for the man that fell out of his bed....who knows how much longer he would be there. This was a terrible experience. I work in the medical field, and the way this facility is ran is inhuman. The thought of transferring my grandfather there haunts me. Please think twice before considering this location. I have experience With convalescent and rehab facilities, VISTA COVE IS BY FAR THE WORST! So, as it goes, we are being told that bed sores SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN - it is a sign of very poor nursing skills. We finally had her pulled out of this terrible place and when she was admitted to her new facility, they clearly pointed out that the bed sores and highly contagious staph infections were all caused by Vista Cove's lack of nursing skills. We will be following up with every agency possible to ensure this place is properly reported. read more

My grandfather has resided here for many years and I visit him every Sunday I can. While I have not had any experience at other nursing homes, I can say for sure that they take excellent care of my gramps. The staff here are the best. They're kind and compassionate and really care about their work. The facility to clean and tidy, and everybody is well cared for. My family and I wouldn't feel comfortable having Gramps stay anywhere but here. read more

This pertains to the assisted living/memory care part of the facility. It's now called Royal Vista. My mom lived there for 7 yrs and it steadily eroded from the time she started there. They've gone through a number of directors, and even went without for long periods. The most recent director is certainly the worse. She was the accountant and saw the opening. Studied gerontology for a short amount of time and voila! She's now an expert in senior care. Not. She's better suited to sell insurance, cars or real estate and not at all empathetic. Working in the geriatric field is a calling. You can tell when staff really care and respect their senior residents. Her personality is totally lacking in this regard. Her involvement in residents' lives is nil and she does nothing to try to work with families. In short, after a fall, she wouldn't allow my mom to come back to assisted living, citing that the county wouldn't allow it unless we provided prohibitively expensive round-the-clock care . I've since found out from others with authority that directors can work with families to try to figure out a solution. She would have none of it. Her only solution was to push my mom down to the nightmarish and "Cuckoo's Nest"-like Memory Care unit where all the residents seem under sedation and under stimulated. They are just herded altogether in wheelchairs staring at each other or a TV. Not a place I'd feel good about leaving my parent in. I wouldn't even want to visit. It turns out that the new owners of the facility have a mandate to move as many residents as possible down to Memory Care, as the fees are higher (while their labor costs are less since they just have a minimal number of people watching over the residents). If she truly felt this was the best solution for my mother, she might have at least tried to act like she cared. When we didn't hop onto her suggestion, she actually tapped her desk with her long, fake nails and sternly scolded us for not wanting to move her down to that hellhole. By the way she lies constantly. She will tell you she's looking into something. When you follow up, she instantly reverses and says that was never a possibility. In the meantime, days have gone by and the situation has worsened in the meantime. Happened to me several times. Actually, as it turns out, this turn of events was a blessing in disguise. My mom's now in a great place with stimulation, fresh and plentiful food (Royal Vista feeds its residents canned food all the time, and small portions), and a knowledgeable and friendly staff who is in constant contact with us about my mom's progress. When she left Royal Vista, she was 88 lbs. Now she's 97, creeping upwards every week. I have heard that the few good staff members from Royal Vista have left because of this new director. There has been a lot of turnover. We are so happy to have gotten our mother out of Royal Vista/Vista Cove for what surely are the last years of her life. We aim to make them as happy and stress free as possible (for all of us) and this place is not where we would have found that. If you have a choice, please go elsewhere. read more

frequently change the menu because they constantly run out of food. Everytime I ask the cooks to speak to the director of food services she is NEVER around. The food quality is disgusting and the lunch salad bar is always sitting there untill after dinner. disgusting. I am talking about the Vista cove in San gabriel ASSISTED LIVING. We had our mother transferred out. The director Lisa was extremely rude and kept rolling her eyes when we tried to explain to her our concerns about the facility. If I could place negative stars I would. I was already hesitant about bringing my Aunt here based on the other reviews. She was being transferred here from the Garfield hospital. If you love your family member or friend DO NOT bring them here. My Aunt was here for almost 4 days to recover from having trouble breathing and wheezing. Her Blood Sugar fell to 22 and she became unresponsive. She is at the hospital now and is still unresponsive. This happened Sunday night, I visited my aunt earlier that afternoon and my Mom left that night around 8pm. The records staff advised me that in the AM her sugar was already low. Now, if a patient is already struggling with low sugar levels throughout the day I would think you would increase the intervals of checking on the patients vitals, especially their sugar! My aunt was talking and texting me on Sunday and it has now been a week and she is in a Diabetic coma. DO NOT BRING YOUR FAMILY MEMBER TO THIS FACILITY, IT WILL BE THE WORST DECISION YOU EVER MAKE. My grandfather stayed here for a short period and I was impressed with the care he received. The caregivers were amazing and the rest of the staff went above and beyond by doing things for him outside of what we're required to do. Needing to move a loved one in an assisted living is a hard thing to do. Was helping a friend find a place for her parents. Vista Cove was one where EVERYONE was smiling and polite. They all communicated so well with each other and with my friend. The "Residents" as they call them, were alert and involved in thier programs while staff was interacting with them like family. This really changed my ideas of what these places are like.Their attention,patience and light hearted atmosphere really made it easier during such a hard time for my friend and her family. Knowing they can accommodate care through the end of life and have their own skilled nursing next door was a huge plus for her. My friend and I were truley relieved to know that stellar care is out there. read more

This feedback is for the Memory Care at Vista Cove San Gabriel. My mother had a very bad experience in 2011 with this facility that is too long to share in details with this board. If you are contemplating of having your love one admitted to this facility, I strongly recommend that you do a complete due diligence and check witht the California Dept. of Social Services Community Care Licensing Division in Woodland Hills, California. You can contact them at 818-596-4334 or request the facility to provide you the report to review the complaint investigation reports for the most recent and past years. This report must be made available by the facility to the public at ALL times. These complaint investigation reports will provide you with the facts and the result of the investigation for the complaints conducted by the evaluator performed for the California Dept. of Social Services.
