While searching for an assisted living facility for a relative, I came across Golden Road Assisted…read moreLiving via Yelp, and gave them a call. I spoke to Mauricio (sp?) who spent a lot of time with me on the phone - going over options, explaining the differences between different types of facilities, listening to the particulars surrounding our relative's condition, letting us know what to watch out for in general. Golden Road is bit above our relative's budget but I really appreciated Mauricio's professionalism, candidness, and especially the time he took to share his knowledge with us -- even after knowing that we would be seeking something less expensive than Golden Road. Thank you so much Mauricio!

Their knowledge base is very detailed and they communicate thoroughly and well which gives you the utmost confidence in their services. I then went to go check the place out and got to meet some of the helping hand & their presence and knowledge was definitely reassuring. Lots of love, compassion, & professionalism here. The place has an extremely quiet setting which is great for rest and peace; with a great surrounding neighborhood, you can totally feel how safe and secure the place is; very clean and organized. You couldn't expect a better environment and staff to help out with your loved one.

My father is not mobile or able to speak, making it especially challenging for staff to identify his needs. Nonetheless, I witnessed Erica take the time to address every need till he was comfortable. One can only imagine how difficult it must be not to be able to communicate with my father while tending to his needs. The PT team works excellently with my father's rehab, and honestly, without their dedication to my father's mobility, he would not have the quality of life he has right now, which is eons more than what it was at the start. Erica, you have no idea how much relief it is for me to know that someone as kind and patient as you helped my dad! I truly hope your work does not go unnoticed. Because you are the poster child of what every nurse should strive to be like: compassionate, empathetic, kind, and patient! Thank you to Del Mar Convalescent!

I got connected with Vivien immediately and she was able to answer my million questions on the spot and was really reassuring throughout the whole process (and more!). I quickly stopped by the facility for a tour with Ivy and felt really good about the decision. Facility was clean, brightly lit, and very well staffed. My mom was admitted mid June and the team took exceptional care of her. She has a long list of complicated issues, but Jie (Director of Nursing) reassured me she's had patients before with similar conditions. Everyone there is extremely kind and patient with her, making it really easy for her to trust them. They even treated my dad and I like one of their own and it just showed me how much they care. They were quick to identify issues and would always call me when they felt she needed to be sent into the hospital. I can't say enough great things about the care team, especially the ones that constantly have my mom - Ping, Aydee, Selina, TB, Mayra. There are SO many others here that have contributed to her care and we're all so thankful for them.

I would not recommend this convalescent hospital to families caring for loved ones with dementia or…read moreAlzheimer's disease. My father stayed at this facility for approximately one month, and during that time it became clear that the staff lacked sufficient training and experience in managing patients with dementia-related behaviors, particularly sundown syndrome. On one occasion, I received a phone call at 1:00 a.m. asking me to come to the facility because my father was awake, talking, and bothering the nursing staff. About two weeks later, I received another call at 5:00 a.m. with the same request. During that call, I was told that if I did not come in, they would transfer my father to another facility. As a family member, I understand that caring for dementia patients can be challenging, but these behaviors are common symptoms of the disease and should be expected in a facility that accepts patients with dementia and Alzheimer's. It was concerning to feel pressured to come in during the middle of the night because the staff could not adequately manage his condition. My disappointment continued after my father's discharge. The discharge coordinator, Ms. Wang, informed us that she would submit the paperwork to begin the IHSS (In-Home Supportive Services) application process on our behalf and told us we should receive documentation within one to one-and-a-half weeks. After 1.5 weeks passed without receiving anything, I contacted her and was told she would look into it. When another 1.5 weeks went by with no update, I personally visited the IHSS office to check on the status of my father's application. To my shock, I was informed that no application had ever been started. As a result, we lost three valuable weeks waiting for a process that had never been initiated. Had we been told the truth from the beginning, I could have submitted the application myself and avoided the delay. Families caring for elderly loved ones already have enough stress without being given inaccurate information that affects important support services. Overall, my experience was extremely disappointing. The facility demonstrated a lack of preparedness for dementia patients and failed to follow through on important discharge-related responsibilities. I hope management takes steps to improve staff training and communication so that other families do not experience similar issues.

So far, I have no complaints when it comes to their care! Therefore, 5 Stars for the nurses there. But.... As far as professionalism, NEGATIVE all stars!!! My mother and uncle used to be her caregivers till they were no longer able to since she had her surgery, they are there for all of her doctor appointments which is several times a month, they arrive early. Might I add, they live about 45 minutes away, and with traffic, that is about an hour or sometimes more. Keep in mind, Vista Cove and the Hospital she visits is only 15 minutes apart. On two separate occasions the people that prepare her to be transported to the hospital WERE LATE!! I am not talking 5 or 15 minutes, I am talking 45 minutes and 1.5 hours!!!! both times the doctor refused to see my Grandmother, so both times we were forced to reschedule!!! The 2nd time they were ridiculously late, my uncle had called them, they said they were having car trouble, whatever... okay so, did you ever think to use another company to transport her? that would be the RESPONSIBLE thing to do! I am a pretty understanding person, I know that car troubles happen, but what are the chances of two separate occurrences weeks apart?!!!! that to me is no excuse!!! someone was slacking off there. So as soon as I hear of this happening again, I contact the MANAGER named "ROSE" She informs me that she was super "embarrassed" of that incident and she apologizes, but she was NOT sympathetic, I could sense in her sentiment that it was NOT genuine and she was rushing me off the phone, to the point where she almost hung up, and I had to tell her to wait! I told her that this was the second time this happened and its unacceptable, once is okay, but this is affecting everyone, its not just about the transportation vehicle, this is about responsibility. It was HER responsibility to not only make sure my Grandma is well cared for, but also to see to it that she she makes it to her appt on time! and you know what Rose told me?.... "Well its not just your grandma, we have other patients we need to drop off too!" Me: "I understand that, so are you saying you are continually dropping them off late too?" Rose: "No, they are not late" Me: "Okay so why is my grandma late all the time?" Rose: "Like I said, things happen, if this is a problem then you need to find another company to transport her" (in a rather rude tone) Me: "So you're saying I need to hire another company to transport my grandma?!" (returning the rude sentiment) Rose: "No , we will find another company to transport her" (at this point, her rudeness subsided) Me: Okay well who is going to let me know as soon as this happens? I want that person to give me a call directly. So, it turns out, the person in charge of transportation is named "Andrew," he is supposed to give me a call. I will update this on her next visit to the doctor and see if any changes are implemented! Bottom line, the manager Rose was not willing to help... only as my tone changed, then she stepped it up. Very unpleasant to deal with.

My sister had a beautiful big room with all of her things in it including her desk, computer, TV and DVD player, large bookshelves, and pictures on the walls. It really felt like her own apartment. She was unable to walk and was moved from her wheel chair to her bed in a hydraulic lift. The staff were warm and loving and always ready to do whatever she wished. She liked to do things on schedule so they helped her to set up a daily plan. Every member of the staff was friendly, patient, and kind. They listened to her requests and and appreciated her humor and wit. She enjoyed the home cooked food that was prepared for her and the other residents. And, in good weather often was taken outside to eat lunch or look at the beautiful, quiet garden. When she was first there she joined in exercises every day after breakfast. Our family visited her often and on occasion would take her out to the gazebo in the garden for an ice cream treat or special lunch. We enjoyed having Vanessa celebrate all the holidays in a big way. We had the Easter Bunny visit, visiting musicians, Fourth of July Flags, and Treats for Halloween. We all were very pleased with everything and everyone there. We were fortunate indeed to have found such a wonderful place for my sister to live out her last days. I heartily recommend this very special Board and Care home.

My mom was also very pleased with the idea of having her own room, and since she loves to garden in her free time, the nurses assured her that she was more than welcome to get her hands dirty if she wanted to. I really wanted to find a place where my mom can feel at ease and happy but where she can still be looked after, especially in an emergency. I think we've found the perfect place.
