They have an outside area with giant letters from signs, garden items and such. The main rooms upstairs are all kinds of random pieces of art, photos and supplies, dolls and more and downstairs they have even more stuff to check out. Jam packed, can be a bit overwhelming. It was my first time going and didn't really know what to expect but I'll for sure be back to grab some things for my scrapbooks & other art projects. Largely decor/dish type items here but there's also some odds and ends you could grab for your own projects, like 25¢ old keys. I usually come away from here with just one treasure because they do have vintage rather than thrift prices. For example today I got a tea light holder with 3 hanging glass baskets for $26. I think that's pretty fair in this economy though, especially for a small business as lovely as this one.

First of all, I LOVE that the store is still owned and operated by E themselves. Amazing! They were at the cashier stand both times I came in. Second, I LOVE that this is a house outfitted to be a shop! It's sooo magical to see everything organized by theme or color coordination while wandering through the different rooms. Vintage kitchen goodies in the vintage kitchen?! Say less. Third, the prices are quite reasonable for the amazing quality and uniqueness!! It's such a well-curated shop, and deals around every corner. I got a bunch of stuff my first stop in, from macrame plant holders to art to bowls. I feasted my eyes on a vintage leather coffee table ($200) that I wanted for my space, and when I called a few weeks later, E confirmed it was still there so I came and got it. It's now one of my favorite pieces in my living room! I could come here every weekend (and find more to buy each time). I can't recommend this shop enough!

This spot is a nice fix closer to home with super cute home decor made out of found objects and antiques. I found most of their prices spendy, but I am more of a do-it-yourselfer/ crafty type. I still found lots of great ideas! I even bought an old pill bottle and have a list of a few other items I will go back to get, budget willing. My Mom got a peony type flower made out of old sewing patterns! Super cute! Our other fave ideas were old coffee carafes as planters and Ball jars painted metallic! They also have the old-fashioned milk paints for sale or for classes which antique wood nicely. Definitely check this store out!

Don't be fooled by the cluttered look and the eccentric owner. Classic Retro is packed from top to bottom with the rarest and the most beautiful mid-century modern items produced during the last century. After collecting for 20 years now, I can confidently say that you need to go to the West Coast, the East Coast, or (possibly) Chicago to find stuff as rare as you'll find in Pete's shop. This isn't Salvation Army, a thrift store, or one of the run of mill stores in the "Retro Loop". Be prepared to fork out some dough. Most items sell for hundreds or thousands of dollars. There are a handful thrifty items that are less than 100 bucks. But mostly, this is the best-of-the-best. Pete doesn't have stickers on most of his items. But his prices are fair. I've compared his prices to the same items (if I can find them) on Ebay or on 1st Dibs and he charges fair, "Minnesota prices", not crazy "Los Angeles prices". He also has a photographic memory. I'm not kidding. He'll tell you them same price a year later. And he'll also tell you the designer, the manufacturer, and the year something was produced--amazing! Nothing particular caught my fancy during my browse, but there certainly was a lot of neat stuff to look at and admire. I had a good (and long, maybe like 20 minutes) convo with the shop owner about the recent goings-on politically-speaking; he wasn't afraid to open up about how he felt about things! The men and ladies that work here are always helpful and the place is dog friendly. Like all neighborhood hardware stores, they stock things that are pertinent to the neighborhood. For example, last weekend I was doing some plumbing, decided to go to Menards and ended up returning everything I bought there because this Ace had what I needed. I could've saved myself some time and just came straight here but I had to be that cheap bastard and well, it shows ya where it got me. Anyway, it happens all the time and honestly the convenience of the place just can't be beat.
