I rented an Iridium 9555- which was the phone suggested by the sales rep- since we were going to Northern Canada- First- the charge cord that was supposed to be used for a car didn't fit the phone- Second- 80% of my calls and over 50% of text messages either didn't connect or were ended remotely or they couldn't hear me or failed to send- The most outrageous thing- a little water spilled on the phone- it stopped working- we didn't drop it in water- a little water splashed on the phone- the screen fogged up and the buttons stopped working. WE put it in rice for 2 days before I could send a text and another full day before we could try a phone call- Now they want to try to charge me extra for 26 min. over the 60 min. package- When I tried to call about this they said they would transfer me to billing and then hung up- Go to another company- this was a waste of money- Jim Simone Order #340215 read more

I have an old Globalstar GSP-1600 sat phone. I had kept the sat phone in the car unactivated for two years. It was just for emergencies. I live in the White Mountains, New England where cell phone signals go to die. Anyway, I had a chat with Tyler at SatellitePhoneStore.com. At first I thought he was a bot. I had treated him poorly because the chat window was annoying me. He requested my email address and I replied biteme@yousuck.com. After learning he was a real person I laughed and told him I was thinking of activating my GSP-1600. Tyler sent me a quote on a 150 minute plan. The Globalstar Orbit 150 offered rollover minutes for $10 extra per month and a USA phone number. Activation fee was $150. The regular price per month was just a bit over a hundred so I went with it. Tyler gave me a big discount for the 1st month since we were nearing the end of the month. I completed the online form, sent it back and from there everything went as smooth as silk! I tried the phone yesterday in my driveway, called my sat phone from my cell phone. It was fun! It took less than a second to hear my voice repeat in my cell phone, it was really close to being instantaneous. The phone and service not only worked well, but attaining the satellite network was faster than I expected! It took less than 10 seconds from turn-on and the phone was ready to make calls. My satellite phone had all four bars for signal, voice quality was excellent, crystal clear, better than my cellphone. First call was put on hold for 10 minutes. I had needed to speak with one of the Straight Talk reps and finally talked with one for 10 minutes. It was a 20 minute call. the call didn't drop and didn't have any interference at all. SWEET! The GSP-1600 may be old and lacks modern features, but it works like a champion, is inexpensive to buy, mine looked new, has very good battery life and charges fast plus is still being supported. Accessories are near impossible to find, but I have what I need so I'm all set. I'm thankful! I have a nice padded bag or sat phone holder from mastercraftsafety.com and I have a quality car charger for now. If I could give them 0 stars I would. Got the sat phone and 120 minutes, gave the company the location I would be at and was assured it would work if I was in a clearing and could see sky. Bought an additional 180 minutes to be sure I had enough minutes during my hiking trip. Phone didn't work, kept saying it was looking for satellite. The company said they could see that I didn't use any minutes, but they refuse to give me a refund. They offered $250 credit toward my next purchase. Then they offered to refund the additional 180 minutes I purchased (even though I used none of the 300), instead of the $250 credit. Did I mention I've called and left messages and no one has called?
